My friend. Feeling alone is no shame. We are social beeings and we seek company. It's in our nature. I'm pretty shure you feel alone from time to time too. That's very normal. On the other hand you got used to be alone and it's less of a pain to you. You learned to be alone. All your good tipps are just a sign, that you might be talking yourself into something. Please, be aware of that. Some people struggle more beeing alone. Most of the time, these are the ones that make you feel bad about it. Since they just don't know how to be alone. Or they might be afraid of you. Because there is one problem. Grief looks like guilt. So if you get sad because you feel alone, people might think you are up to no good. The best way out of this situation is to find comfort in the uncomfortable. If you know that, it's much easier to deal with them. Of course, you have it a bit harder because of the colour of your skin. Well, that's something you certainly know how to deal with much better than I do... My tips against loneliness would be: 1. Acknowledge that you are alone and feel lonely. That's normal. 2. Don't panic. It's temporary and you can learn something about yourself by beeing alone. 3. Don't feel bad, when people treat you differently because you are alone. They aren't used to be alone or they are afraid of you. Show them, that you feel OK to be alone and you are no bad person. Find comfort in the uncomfortable.

As a fellow solo traveler who has traveled all over Europe alone, I agree with all of your points, though I've never had to ask for a table for two. I'm a fat man, so they always sit me at a large table. Ha!

Been solo traveler for more than 20 years. Love your tip about "table for 2" in restaurants. I will use it from now on. Thanks

Very thoughtful video. It may come in handy someday. Hopefully, not soon. Although, my wife and I each have places where the other does not want to go.

Hi Hal, I've just stumbled on your videos, and am now watching them and adding places to my bucket list. I'm going to do some 3 or 4 day solo trips (not done solo trips before) to Europe or a bit further fromvnext year when the world gets sane again and am looking for advice please. After watching this helpful video, I have some (sorry, quite a few) questions: what do you take with you, how do you get from the airport to the hotel, how do you get around, what do you do about your phone (ie local sim cards or not), maps, money or cards, booking day trips before you go or when you're there, tipping, etc? Thanks!
