Error messages always scared the shit outta me when I was little. I remember the Tony Hawk Underground games would instantly take you to a completely silent red screen with small white text in the center, telling you the game disc was broken. What was creepy was that most of the time, the game could last a little while before doing this, so all you could do was fearfully anticipate when your speakers would just go silent and the screen went blank red. While as an adult, it isn't very scary now, but as a little kid and staying up late, this shit creeped me out.

As a kid, I can confirm that I feel uneasy whenever a glitch happens. For example, clipping out of the map and into the black void below. Just thinking about it gives me shivers. Another thing that creeps me out is when the ground doesn't render but you can still stand on it. You can see the black void and the skybox ending abruptly. Gives me anxiety.

The SEGA CD’s warning track doesn’t actually damage audio systems. The guitar riffs in the background were meant to catch your attention so you can eject the disk. Because if the audio player progresses to the next track on the disk, which is where all the game data is, the screeching/corrupted sounds _will_ be deafening and will blow out your speakers.

Old comment but this is referred to in professional settings (so like making horror audio, music, games and whatnot) as "Cognitive Dissonance", when you have two extremes of the spectrum it makes your brain try to fill in the blanks, and then subconsciously panics when it can't. A high audio mixed with a low audio with no in-between creates the instinctual confusion of "Is this a harmless kitten... or a lion wanting to eat me?" Because predatory species (lions, bears, etc.) tend to make deep, bellowing noises, and thus we're instinctually wired to be wary of such sounds in certain circumstances.

That shouldn’t actually be the case funnily enough. Xbox and Xbox 360 games had a small DVD file stored on them that would play when inserted into a dvd error, telling the user that they needed to insert it into an Xbox console. Since the PS2 has a built in DVD player, it automatically plays these. These little Xbox videos are up on KZbin if you’re curious.

Here is the reason why Fearful Harmony is not a sound, but rather a glitch. When inserting a pirated disc/disc that isnt for ps1, The core processor for the PS1 dies and the PS1 core that holds the visuals get broken, so it starts spewing out garbage such as corrupted images and thats the reason why *SCEE* is here.
