Yeah, he was established. It's "accepted" in the Steam discussions for the game. It's way less than 30, there is not much of a community, the number of people who've done serious speedruns of it is probably still in the single digits. In any case, it doesn't really matter. I've stopped playing it since then, and basically nobody cared to begin with.

Alex Penev also claimed a bunch of records of which there's no proof of it, but as far I can see from all the records I've checked, they're not too insane. For instance, he still holds the WR in A Link Between Worlds' Rupee Rush in both worlds, which got insane amount of RNG involved. I'm only 18 rupees away from matching his record, but it takes a nearly perfect RNG from the fountain to even get that 453 or higher (435 is the highest proven score by me) And according to the birthday thread at the mario kart forums, he's pretty old. Not sure if he's truly that old or is even still alive, but I'd appreciate if people can research about the history of his activity over the years.

That Berube "flame war" thread created a lot of misunderstanding, the most upsetting of which was that my assertion of any opinion = political "power play". As you clarified, it was just my would-be vote. TheMightyBiscuit that’s reasonable however he didn’t create the site; it was started by Iacopo Sorce with collaboration from Rene Elsaesser. Kent took over its admin in about 2001 from memory. He was always a really nice guy online, and put in plenty of work before handing it to Nicholas Harvey I believe. I agree with Goose that that’s the positive part of his legacy but it also doesn’t explain the bogus 1080 times (there were multiple).

Ask everyone if they remember the infamous streets 1:12 MRRL run !?! I'd love to see a Karl Jobst profile, an Illu retrospective, stories on Clemens speed bullying, a Steven zwarties interview about the Aztec controversy. Please let me know if you see this comment, and it is something you could/would want to make. Due to your passion on the subject I believe you'd be the best man for the job ! I believe SZ is legit. Coming from the Super Mario Kart community, where "live proof" is one of the strongest ones you can get, I can say that him being validated by, Wessels, MJ and KVD gives him a lot of credit. I don't get why he would lie after being so successful and proving his worth to numerous different people and communities. Also, if I'm going to lie it won't be about a "25 untied PR on a very grindy game such as GE. ps.: Goose, your videos are amazing. Keep them rolling.

@rwhitegoose based on limited video that I saw here. The end time on Crystal lake was 1.02.40. if it increments it's times in .03 seconds then by extension the 1.02.60 he says is the actual possible time would be incorrect... Just my observation

1’02”64 is impossible. You can only get a “63 or “66. It’s got to do with how many FPS the game runs at and how the in game timer increments once per frame and therefore the counter is basically hardcoded.

These listings should simply be listing recorded runs, not just the runs themselves. Anybody can claim they made a run. Someone once mentioned at a recent-ish GDQ that someone got WR on Link to the Past during practice. That is absolutely plausible, but since it wasn't recorded, it doesn't deserve to be listed. All of these runs could be true, but that shouldn't matter if they weren't recorded.

Aside from Kent, I do believe the rest of them. I really find it odd when people call Zwartjes the "Todd Rogers of N64" because even though his times did seem a bit crazy at the time, all of them got beaten by similar tricks later on. If he were truly the Todd Rogers of N64, his times would still be unbeatable to this day.

I think some of these older records that don’t have as much proof should stand as long as they have been beaten or matched, they are not impossible to obtain, and there’s some proof that the runner is plausibly competent enough to have gotten said time. Nowadays, we should continue to require video proof, but it’s kind of hard to suggest all these older records need to have been recorded due to the state of technology. The only other thing I could think of is making a pre-2005 ranking and putting all those records there, I don’t know.
@doggo70782 жыл бұрын
In Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics, 2010 Ds, there was a runner who got a lot of good records. Some of them were incredible, but other were excepcional. Since there was no traidition of recording records back then, all we have are his submissions to the online DS leaderboards (not even the WFC leaderboard, but another one that the community created aftwerwards). Not even his name is known, the time displayed was made by a "Deleted Username" Recently we have TASed some of the events, and one of his records is, I kid you not, 1 milisecond away from the theoretically perfect time. It really makes you wonder whether he was a TASer just faking his scores, but then again, other records of his were not so hardcore, so who knows.

So Zwartjes claimed records that indeed are possible and even beaten?! But just because it took (a few) years people don't believe him?! That is a strange conclusion imo. The fact that he doesn't have enough video proof is enough to not have the records in the listings, true. But I do believe he shouldn't be shamed as all he claimed was indeed proven possible multiple times by different players..
