The most incredible thing that I see in this scenario is just how incredibly committed they all were to the competition. This 3-man contest on a game long passed from memory to set a record literally less than 2 tenths of a second shorter.. But that's what makes it so awesome. It may not mean very much to most people, but it matters to them, and that's all that counts. I hope they remain proud of their work. What a great story, thanks for sharing.

I had to comment on this amazing video. I bought this game back in the day and played the absolute hell out of it. This was long before I had any idea what speed running was. I too used to head to the left on Deadly Falls and do little jumps to avoid air - things I came up with myself as I played. I have no idea what my fastest time was as it's been years since I switched my N64 on. I've no doubt it wasn't a patch on anything in this video, but I'm so happy to see this game mentioned and in such detail. Speed running aside, it was enormously fun to play. If Nintendo ever do a mini N64 console, I'm praying this will be on it.

Coming from a background of car simulation-racing gaming where the best lap time is the gold prize, hearing the part about that adrenaline, having to make a choice.. It was great, it's exactly like that when you race seriously, you know a really good racer is behind you and they are breathing down your neck, do I just give in and go wide on a corner and let them overtake or do I defend, take a deep breath and hope I get everything right and make sure the lap time is low, try and stay just on that fine line and pray that they person behind me pushes too hard on the exit of a corner and allows me room to breathe again. Yeah definitely a good video.
