Peter was a great game player. He sold his stories well! Makes sense he was a master of the Hollywood Squares

Another great game pilot with the addition to the Hollywood squares master, Peter Marshall; proving again, the "WINKSTER" DELIVERS!!!!!!

If anyone notices, the theme to this game show was also used in the 1970s remake of the game show TEMPTATION
@tyrese3745Ай бұрын
I think it was actually used for a CBS short-lived game show called “Give-n-Take”, which was hosted by the late Jim Lange and ran on said network during the fall of 1975.

That pilot was from 1981, and despite its title, had no connection to the late 60s Heatter-Quigley GS of the same name.

Bill and Peter actually had a similar exchange over the "Hello, stars!" greeting on one of the circulating Liar's Club eps from its 74-75 KTLA run.

Essentially, Liar's Club/All Star Secrets with a little bit of the Give-N-Take theme music.

This may be the weirdest concept and name for a game show I’ve ever heard and I thought I’d seen them all at least all the ones that were produced in color until today

This is horrendous. It’s the Liar’s Club with celebrity stories. The “computer” is beyond hokey. No wonder this didn’t sell.

Looks like Bill Yagemann (who partnered with Ralph Andrews until 1967) wanted to fill that post-_Liar's Club_ void, which isn't surprising given his son Scott Yagemann worked on the 1970s _LC_ and _You Don't Say!_ revivals. My guess is the pilot is from late 1978 to early 1979. I assume Rhodes Productions shopped this around as a prospective syndication offering for a few years, though when Rhodes sold new game shows, they were the Catalena Productions shows out of Vancouver.

I kinda liked the name “Whew!”. It’s (somewhat) pronounceable AND it fits what a contestant would say. Jay Wolpert gave it that name, and although he has “taken the blame” personally, I had no issue. I was only upset when it added celebrities; the set AND format weren’t designed for it.
@brimer735uu8Ай бұрын
What's strange is they didn't say what year this is from. It wasn't until I think 1982 when I first heard of Abby Dalton. I know she was in "Falcon Crest" in the 80s, I think beginning in 1981. That might say this game show pilot might be from 1981.
@stedco75Ай бұрын
Abby was a semi-regular on Hollywood Squares in the 60’s and 70’s, so she’s definitely been around longer than that.

Ironically, for those mentioning Catalena Productions. Host Bill Armstrong was a one time executive for Catalena. It was mentioned in the Canadian Game Shows documentary. He was the EP of Pitfall who brought in Alex Trebek as host. Bill got out of there before everything cratered.

Interesting twist on Celebrity Sweepstakes. Couldn't find a date on when this one happened (have to presume the mid-70's), but it just seemed too slow-paced.

They recycled the Give 'n take theme music I see. And Rhodes Productions they're most infamously known in the game show world for their association with Pitfall, the show that screwed over Alex Trebek (although that was more so on Catalena Productions than them)
