I was in the scouts and ventures as a kid and loved the outdoors. Then life took hold and my life took another direction. At 49 I then did the Cumbria Way, wild camping. Following year for my 50th did the Cape Wrath Trail which was an absolute epic trip and effectively only my second through hike 😂. All those who said it was only for experienced hikers - BS! I just remembered the motto from my scouting days - be prepared. At anytime till the end of time is what I say.

This was great! I gotta go back and watch the rest now. As a 3d artist and photographer myself, I get my share of rude comments. If you're gonna put your stuff out there, be it artwork, videos or whatever, you just have to develop a thick skin, but also I find rude, negative comments to be a motivation to do better. I mean, most rude comments are just rude, and aren't constructive criticism, but they still motivate me to do better. Regarding comfort zones, when I did my first multi-day wild camping trip, it was on an island in Lake Michigan, and I had to take a ferry to get there. My anxiety almost made me turn around and go home. I just had to tough it out, and it ended up being the best trip of my life.

Lovely podcast yet again. Thanks guys! My background is in the arts and I’ve recently started sculpting again and felt like I wanted to sell them. I ended up making 20 goddess sculptures for friends and still have orders to make. I find it hard to fit it all in in amongst my full time career and at the moment camping has my full attention! You’ve given me some inspo though Jo as I’ve seen your work on the website and insta and love how you’ve put yourself out there. WELL DONE 😊Maybe I could have the best of all my worlds. I’ve massively stepped out of my comfort zone as a lone female who camps and records it. I’m having the time of my life now Im out of my comfort zone and enjoying the process and the virtual people I’m meeting! ⛺️ you guys rock 🪨

What do you mean by "goddess"? Do you mean like the prehistoric Venus figurines with the big boobs and belly but no face? I'm carving the 'lowenmensch' or Lion Man for my new grandson. Only from wood; I can't afford ivory and I'd rather a tree die than an elephant.

Great vid you two. I watch you and see similarities with my life. I've trekked the Himalaya and camped all over Europe. Love buying new camp kit and the quest For the unicorn in everything. My wife is also an artist who works full time as a carer and yet is so talented and sells her art but reluctant to make the jump into her art full time. I encourage her and eventually she will. If she doesn't she'll regret never trying and that's always been my motto. Try it as you may regret not trying. It doesn't matter if things don't work out . The fact is you tried. My camping now is based around my motorcycling like sandy does occasionally and have taken a lot of info away from your vids. Keep up the channel and both of you try Nepal for a change. You'll love it. Be good watching.

Hi Paul and Jo, My wife and I have just finished watching your latest pod cast and thought it was really good. Your podcasts are really relaxed and easy to watch (we watch instead of listening). Jo is growing in confidence. We were both in stitches at times with some of the things you said. The topics you chatted about on this pod cast were really interesting. The topic re receiving horrible/ negative comments, isn't great, but if you turn this around these negative people are actually giving you a view and posting. If it was me I would just delete the horrible ones. I've always said in every bunch of roses you are guarantied one prick. Anyway good idea with regards having different topics to discuss in the next pod cast. Here's a few topics; 1) What advice would you give to yourself if you could turn back the clock? 2) Paul could highlight a few health and safety concerns when solo camping especially for those people that are considering it for the first time. I was a health and safety officer myself for 10 years and I know Paul was too so he'll fully understand the importance of it. 3) Jo could talk about when she first picked up a paint brush and when she knew she had a talent and knew it was like a therapy to her. 4) Why do you like Sheffield and would you ever consider moving away to another location? You could take a stove to make a brew, whilst on pod cast location :-) Anyway we love the pod cast keep them coming Jez & Melissa also from Sheffield

I've been chatting with SoloSarahB about just this topic. I struggle these days to get out and do stuff like wild camping because of occasionally debilitating health problems. That aside, I also struggle with confidence. But it dawned on me recently, as a result of my conversations with Sarah, that my problem is that I'm trying too hard to succeed, when what I should be doing is getting out to make as many mistakes as I can, as quickly as I can, and in that way I'll learn and so gain confidence. I don't mean I deliberately try to fail; I still try to succeed, only now I'm expecting and even welcoming failure as the educational friend that it is. You're both an inspiration to me, and the fact you're both from Sheffield like me makes it all the more relatable.

People that give us sh*t online would never make a video themselves. They've no idea what it takes to put yourself out there in the public eye so I just don't give them the time of day anymore. I used to give them sh*t back but arguing with strangers on't interweb isn't good for your mental health. Plus those sort of people really don't matter! I've spent years getting rid of the riff raff in my life so why should I accept them into my head/life now 😉

In my 50s watched and learnt from you last couple years hadn't bothered with Internet things but was shocked at the nasty comments some folk leave if you didn't have out good to say say nothing trolling is bullying and can imagine your hard effort and editing plus camping expense to get nasy comments would upset me its quite hurtful and far to easy on groups etc remember there's nowt so queen as folk 😂

Love this format of the two of you nattering away over a coffee, with some good banter thrown in👍 At one point Jo mentioned Reggie - how is he doing? Any chance of showing some footage of him, and your campervan (if you still have it) - as I avidly watched all your videos throughout Covid. But have unfortunately missed a number of episodes since then due to some lengthy spells in hospital. ATB

Great chat folks. Jo I’m a youth worker and it baffles me that adults continue to tell young people “that’s shit” or “your rubbish” and I see the affect that has on a young person . As you say, just think about what you are saying and why you are saying it. Looking forward to the next one 👏👏

I still don't get why people act the way they do online. Why criticise? If I watch something I don't like I just move to the next video. Suppose it shows their true colours and I'm a great believer of what goes around comes around so at some point they'll feel the same level of negativity hopefully. You both are genuine nice people and I think you can safely say that your life is better than theirs! If the roles were reversed and their lives were in the spotlight there probably wouldn't be enough to even leave a comment on.

One thing about using the dislike button, and leaving unconstructive negative feedback, it says lot's more about the person leaving that stuff than it does you. If I don't like something, I click away and that's it. I very rarely (I won't say never) leave negative feedback unless it's absolutely necessary to the commentary of the video comments. Outdoor Gear Review Trangia kettle video is an example of this. I know we have or own opinions on stoves, and that's fine, we all have our own likes and dislikes. And then there's your inability to make a decent brew ;-) LOL. If you ever need a buddy to go climbing, it's been a while since I last visited the Climbing Works but I (or Tom he's a natural) can come hold your hand, so to speak. Even the experts on the telly were newb's once. The are only the way they are now after years of dedication and training, no one is born an expert, trust me.

Hey up Paul. The people that troll have issues with themselves. Think about this. Would you give your personal opinion, strongly or even abusively worded to someone you didn't know? Whether solicited or not? I don't think you would. These people that do are often riddled with self confidence issues and sometimes some mental health issues themselves. It doesn't excuse bad behaviour but it goes some way to explaining the type of people they are and that in fact their opinions really don't matter. If someone comes to be with an opinion to share that is intended to genuinely help me get better I'm all ears. If they're just being rude or abusive then that says much more about them than you. They're not worth getting bothered about. They're quite sad really and I feel sorry for those types. If they know more than you, why can't they share some friendly advice instead of being vindictive and horrible? Keep doing what you're doing pal. Ignore the trolls. Karma will sort them out.

Interesting comments, for the negative, vin diesel said it best, 'if I can't trust you I don't need you' those types of comments don't effect me at all I just block them never see them again and move on never think about them for a moment, I just don't need them. I would say tho be careful what you decide to share.
