I think it is not flexible enough. You probably need a DSLR or mirrorless camera and a macro lens for it.

Really interesting! I'd heard the term photo stack but never seen it in action. Super informational!

To get rid of glare, I've had good results using a circular polariser on the lens. To get enough depth of field, I use the focus bracketing features of my camera instead of a focus rail, works great when the lens has AF! In Helicon Focus I generally get best results with method B, but I didn't yet try to change the smoothing parameter in method C. I should try and compare the results! To get a more interesting photo, when I did some toy photography I put together a whole scene of toys as if they're being played with. That was great fun and I look forward to doing more such toy photography!

Micael... Even through the UK winter I have been able to find Birch Catkin Bug on all the Holly in a Birch woodland, sometimes with a hibernating ladybug... It would be worth checking your locality

With an autofocus lens, Nikon has photo stacking settings in the camera so you do not have to use a macro rail. :)

@@MicaelWidell You have a Fuji don't you? They have the same feature. You just need to use a lens that has an AF mechanism, so that the camera can step the focus.

My Panasonic Lumix G80 does this as well. Some macrorings and a kitlens is all it takes.

@@MicaelWidell Yes, the Fuji 60mm macro might do for toy photography (0.5x mag magnification)? With an extension-ring perhaps.

3:05 best way you could have mitigated this would be using a polarized lightsource, then mount a polarizer on the lens and turn it until specular reflections disappear entirely.
@MicaelWidell
@MicaelWidell 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I want to try that some time! However if taken too far it can look very unnatural. But definitely I want to experiment with in the future.

When you use HeliconFocus, you could also had opted to go for HeliconRemote. Then you don't need the rail :)

What a coincidence! I found your channel a couple of months ago because I was intrested in taking photos of my warhammer and our warhammer games. I've always encounter the problem with the shallow depth of field, its really hard to get good shots on these small figures. I can't blame my equipment really because im just an amateur and I dont even own the proper lenses or lights to take amazing photos of the miniatures. But it's still fun and some of the pictures turns out pretty good on accident anyway. :) Nice to know there is equipment to make these shots appear sharper... Tho I have to save some money if im gonna afford more equipment hehe :)

@thenickdude 2 жыл бұрын
You don't need to buy more equipment for focus stacking, you can just turn the focus ring on your lens to take multiple photos at slightly different focus depths

Dear Micael, thanks for that really nice video (again) :) Can I ask you what kind of analog Macro-Rail you can reccommend? I bought the Nisi NM 180, but i found out, that it moves up/down as i turn it. Its about 1 or 2 mm in height, depending on the distance to the object ofcourse. Its a bit unsatisfying ;) Or should i go for an electric really expensive one?! hmm. Thank you so much for answering, all the best! Alex

Wonderful! Thats what I call A.L.P. (Advanced Lego Photography) 🤩👌 I have to get some type of macro slider, but have to be a really cheap one to begun with. Any suggestion? Less than 500SEK if you know some? I really like this kind of video that show the work from beginning to the end. 🙏
@MicaelWidell
@MicaelWidell 2 жыл бұрын
The cheapest one I have seen is maybe 800SEK, thing I got it from Cyberphoto. But if you look on chinese sites or eBay you can probably find even cheaper. I recommend checking reviews though so you get goot quality. Also important with some kind of scale so you can see how much you move the camera each step.

@@MicaelWidell Thanks, Yes I think I might wait some month so I can spend a little more like 800 for example. But Will take a look at the chinese market also 🙏👍

How many shots for focus stack?
@MicaelWidell
@MicaelWidell 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on how deep the stack is, your magnification, and your aperture. Anywhere from 3 photos to hundreds. Look at the chart I linked to get an idea.
