My friend is a bridesmaid for a wedding this Saturday (2 days away). She had a miscommunication with her seamstress and the bodice of her dress was taken in, but the dress wasnt hemmed and had about 8+ inches of extra material. It took me about 5 hours to do all layers of the dress, but thanks to you, it turned out great!! Thank you so much

This is Johanna, My friend couldn't find a tailor to hem her chiffon wedding dress, so she asked me if I would do it for her. I've been sewing for 50+ years, but I hesitated. I mentioned to her that I've never altered a wedding gown before. I was very concerned that I would ruin it! Sadly she had no one else to do it for her, so a day later, I told her that I would do my best, and that it might not be perfect. So, I searched for videos and found yours! Your instructions were very clear, and I followed them exactly as you instructed. I cannot thank you enough for posting this video!! I tackled the dress very carefully, and I'm happy to say that I am very happy with the results,and so is the bride! Your efforts to put together this video to share your sewing expertise is so appreciated. Thankful we have a happy bride!

Even better if you have a dress stand wear it a few days (the more the better!!) before you hem so the bias etc has a chance to finish stretching, so you don't have that happen once you're all done. Some costumers have had to resew the hem more than 4 times cause the fabric absolutely Insisted on stretching once they were done.
@SewDarnedFun7 ай бұрын
Yes, that horrid bias stretch!!! It's a 'must' to mark it for hemming while hanging or being worn. Most chiffon isn't heavy enough to keep stretching after it's hemmed. I've never had any issues like that. Mark the hem while hanging, for sure!!!!

Love this! What size needle and thread do you recommend for hemming chiffon? Thanks
@SewDarnedFun6 ай бұрын
Hi there! I probably use an 80/12, or 70/10 universal needle and my thread is just regular sewing thread. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching :)

Hmmmm....can you please be more specific about what you mean about 'pinning'? I don't have specific videos regarding pinning, but maybe I have something within one of my videos? If you can be specific, then maybe I can answer better....or give me another future video idea ;)

Hi. Which foot did you use?

I always keep a Teflon foot on, but your regular metal or plastic foot should work just fine!

Hmmm…. Well I think it’s made of Teflon! 😆 But that’s what it’s called. It’s not of any special shape, like a zipper foot. Now have I just totally confused you!! 😆
