My 21 son drove from Eastern Australia across the country to Perth (4260kms) in Western Australia by himself in his car, and then back a couple of months later. He stopped every now and again in NSW, South Australia and Western Australia and flew his DJI Mavic 2. The videos and photos were breath-taking in their beauty, especially those taken whilst travelling over the Nullarbor Plain.

Came here after your announcement in the newest Video. For me most of your videos are beautiful to watch and educational at the same time and I love that. Since I don't own a drone there was no reason for me to watch this Video from the educational point of view but I do have to say that the drone footage and the very special perspectives it gives you are very very beautiful and with your music really relaxing to watch. I think many didn't click on it because they do not own a drone themselves but this video is made very professionally and is just a thing I guess most of your viewers aren't used to. Would love to see more though since I play with the thought of buying a drone for a while now!

Even though I don't have a drone, I do love the perspective that images taken with them give the viewer. Here in Australia, a landscape photographer (Glenn Mckimmin) dose his arial photography using either a helicopter of fixed wing plain. His images of Sydney and Lake Eyre are stunning. Taken with a Fuji GFX100s hanging out of a plane sich I think would be very interesting and somewhat scary. The results are magnificent, as are your airial drone images. The care and attention to detail composing with a remote monitor is a definite skill in itself. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and images Mads!

Earlier this year I bought a Mavic 3 to allow me to get photos from places that my feet can't take me. Since then, I've had several opportunities to go out shooting with both my drone and my fullframe camera.....and most of the time when I come home and review the photos that I took with each, I find that the more compelling shots were taken with the drone! It seems it may have become my "primary" camera! Last month I went on vacation to Belize, which doesn't allow visitors to bring drones into the country with them, and I felt SO handcuffed! It's amazing the difference a drone can make.

After trekking for half an hour with limited time along an unknown slightly muddy track to search for a vantage point in which to take some camera shots of a beautiful mountain bathed in gorgeous morning sunlight that I could only catch glimpses of through trees as I was driving along a road only to find myself surrounded by a forest of tall trees and no clear shot of the mountain I reached for the M3 and shot my most epic manual 18 frame panorama using 7x zoom. I never leave on a shoot without my drone when it comes down to getting the shot or not getting the shot a drone can sometimes be the only option.

Great video Mads, and you are fortunate to have some stunning scenery where you live. I switched over to drone photography a couple of years ago and currently have the dji Air 2s and RC pro controller. I brought it mainly for photography, and I don’t use it as much for video work. The 1” sensor is good on the drone, but the aperture is fixed at f2.8, so has a few limitations. But there again, the compromise was on the size and weight of the drone as I don’t want to lug a big drone around with me as well as other camera gear. But although I have the qualifications, I prefer flying it away from people in the wilds, where it doesn’t bother people. It has changed my concept of photography and I would recommend to anyone thinking about it, to take a leap of faith and try it out. If you are still unsure, then I would reach out to someone you know that has one and see if you can go out with them to get a better idea before committing a bunch of money for a drone that might end up on a shelf unused, if it’s not for you.

Thanks so much Mads, your video is just what I needed. I have had my DJI Air 2S for a year now and never really considered it seriously for photography up until about a month ago. Your tips are great and they have inspired me even more to get out and take photos. The only downfall with the Air 2S is you can’t change aperture settings but that is okay. I am lucky enough to be going to Iceland at the start of November and am so excited to try out your tips and hopefully take some amazing photos with my drone.

Another fantastic video! I also have been using a drone for a few years, starting with a Spark which I thought did a great job for the money, to a Mavic pro 2 which is I think is still the best package out there. For me the drone has to give the viewer something different. Something they have never seen before. They are also brilliant for getting that awkward composition, you know the one, where you need to be a little higher or walk on water. I think your photos (and the way you say photos) are great, that's because they are original. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for sharing Mads Peter, I've been flying my Mavic Pro since early 2017 now and use many of your tips. Although I started using it for video mostly at start, I have been using it for photos mostly now. I sometimes also make multi-row panorama's to get some extra high panorama's and always shoot 5 AEB Raw photo's. The Netherlands is terrible for drone flying because of the many (sometimes multi-overlapping) nofly zones....

Great video as always, thanks! I love drone landscape photography and I always take a drone along. I has produced some stunning images over the years that I would not have been able to capture without a drone. Before we had modern compact drones with decent cameras I would often take photos from light aircraft but there are many limits, not the least is having to fly the plane while half hanging out the door to take a photo. Often really scaring my passengers in the process!

Catching up on your vids Mads and this is a great one for me as I'm a relative novice as far as drones go. Got a Mavic Mini2. I love the different pov it gives. I don't like to fly it if there are other Togs around though, too 'self-conscious' as 1. I'm not an expert flyer and 2. I do feel they can be noisy and distracting for others. I know I hate having someones drone fly into my shot!

I don't see any reason to be, as as matter of principle, for or against drones. The way I see them, they are "just" another tool photographers can use in their trade. The more important question is how to use them, and what (if any) restrictions are placed on their use by the authorities. Also important is how each individual photographer uses his drone: they can be used to irritate others without getting discovered, in a way that few (if any) other photographical tools can. I tend to use my drone for almost as much location scouting as for actual photography/videography: the drone can travel faster than I can to many locations, potentially saving me several hours of gruelling hiking in difficult terrain.

Love all the options a drone provides, it often saves the day when there is great light but I can't find a composition from the ground. But it is like going back in time with editing due to the dynamic range limitations...and I wish DJI would make the AEB interval greater than 2/3 a stop.

Really good vlog thank you. I have a Mavic Pro 2 and 99% of the use is for photography (yes video is great but I have no need for it) As you say it is a game changer for different compositions especially for me living in the English Lake District. The way I shoot most people are not even fully aware it is a drone and I'm often asked what Fell I was standing on to get a particular composition. I think one reason some photographers don't like drones is the short amount of time you have to compose a shot.

Thanks for this video, I was just starting to think that I should shoot more with my drone and your video came up. I guess that I should take that as a sign :) But I live in Varberg, Sweden (west coast).. Finding intressting stuff to shoot here with a drone is hard, do u have any tips? We both live in "flatt countrys" :)

14:15 to that point, file enlarging software has come such a long way. Yes, it's digital enhancement, but if/when you need it, it's a great tool to utilize. There's free options online &/or if anyone has Adobe Lr/Ps, you have it available to use already. So don't be afraid to crop in/lose MPs.

I'm OK at flying but crap at taking photos. I often forget to even take them. I just need to remember and take these tips on board

Do you need a permit to fly over the glacial rivers in iceland? Going to iceland in a few weeks, and shooting glacial rivers is high on my what to shoot list

It depends where you fly. You need a permit for the national parks and sadly you have to be awfully specific about where and for how long and at what time you fly to get those permits. Outside of the national parks you should just follow the regular rules.

@@MadsPeterIversen thx for the reply. I'll just stick to flying in areas where I don't need a permit. Getting a permit sounds like a disaster

@@MadsPeterIversen Hey Mads, are permits required for even flying a drone like DJI Mini 3 (less than 250 gms) in the National Park Area? Can you please share some of the famous Tourist spots along the Iceland Ring Road where its mandatory to have permission for flying a DJI Mini 3 Drone. I'm worried I would end up paying a hefty fine if I fly in one of those spots as I dont have a permit .

Great video. I’ve started flying my DJI 3 mini pro drone in January and got the DJI Mavic 3 pro about a month ago. Such a great tool to add to my photography gear. Your tips on so on point. It’s too easy though because of the new perspective to take snapshots. Like taking with a camera you still have to use same tips that you pointed out.
