I never knew there was a difference in grip between the pendulum and the reverse pendulum serve. Changing my grip and using the other tips of this video really helped. I've been practicing this serve for months but I just couldn't master it, but now with this change it grip I have a lot more control over my serve and I can get a lot more spin. Thanks for the video!

It was a lot of fun to practice this serve. I did it step by step. In the end, I used the forearm and wrist more. Then the serves were really good. Not perfect, of course. I have to create more spin. Practice creates masters. Thanks again for the tips.

Great practical guide, only thing I would add is to point out the strategic value of the reverse pendulum is as a mix up. A big element to work on is making your start position identical to a normal pendulum and to execute the movement as quickly and late as possible.

Nice tutorial. Already knew most of it, maybe appart from the grip change, but I think I've been doing it subconciously lol. Anyhow, it's also a nice serve to mix up a bit more. Like fast long top/side spin serves (as with pendulum, but opposite sidespin). Or brush it 'close to' purely sideways/horizontally under the ball where the spin will be pretty dead on normal recieves. or alternatively just do a no-spin serve that looks like 'heavy underspin' (no-spin serves that looks like underspin kicks ass) You can also make a decent short/low "top spin" serve where you contact the ball the oposite way compared to the underspin version, as in, "away from the table under the ball" but still enough 'upward' for the ball to move forward and over the net. Which is actually easier with the reverse than the normal pendulum. At least deceptive wise. If your opponent is not observant (or high level) they will try cut it normally and it will jump upwards. :) Just my own variants of this serve, I'd be delighted to hear more.

I’ve been getting back into ping pong a lot lately. I’ve played a lot back in high school. I really love it, lots of fun. So much skill, strategy involved here, reminds me of chess. 🙂 I really enjoy having a bunch of various serves so your opponent doesn’t get used to the serve when you’re serving so many different ones. This serve looks do able. I’ll work hard and add this one to my Repertoire. 😆 Great video! 👍🏽👍🏽

I found one issue with this technique that prevented me from mastering this serve for a long time. My issue was the handle was brushing against my wrist preventing a clean motion for generating a the spin from wrist. Looked at a Eli Baraty video where he suggests some techniques but did not work well for me. My solution was to grip the racket lower towards the bottom of the handle. Seems to work well as the bottom of the handle is no longer in way of wrist snap

Hi Dan, I am avid follower of your videos and reviews. I would like to make a suggestion here. Many players are aware of how to make a reverse pendulum serve, but are afraid of using it in a match. This includes me. Many amateur players work on different serves but we don't know the correct placement of the serve and are not sure what to do when someone receives it either from F/H or B/H. So if you please give some thought on this and cover this in your next video then it would be really helpful to everyone.
@TableTennisDaily5 жыл бұрын
Hey Mudit, thanks for your nice comment, and I agree we should definitely mention this and take this into consideration more in the future. We actually have tons of videos on serve placement and the follower up shot on the Academy. We will bear this in mind, thanks Mudit :)
@DragonWarrior9765 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dan, Basically a side spin if received correctly will also spin back or away from the server. In either case it is important for the server to anticipate the movement and move accordingly. If as a player I use one serve as a dominant serve and use the other one sparingly I am less prepared for the other serve kicking differently. That was my point which I requested you to consider.

In many of the examples the hitting point of the serve is across the backline of the table, which is an illegal serve. Now please do a review of Nittaku Acoustic.

I still feel that more info - and a taster video would be good for the Per Gerell course. I can't really see what I'm getting - length of video, quality of shots, split screen, ultra slow motion etc. etc. I'd be interested in buying the course if I could see a sample.

@playandteach5 жыл бұрын
@@guntherschabus3458 Thanks for that. Taken on the course with that recommendation. TTD, I still think there's room for more info that might get others interested - for example the topspin serve; is that backhand AND forehand? I'll add a review of sorts when I get onto practising.

Just got the videos ready to learn - can I suggest that you make the sequencing easier to follow. Week 1 follows the introduction video, and assumes that you know what the grip is, but the grip video isn't in that sequence - should you watch the other videos before the weekly course?

Heyyaa.. total rookie question, but wouldn't it be a bit awkward to transition back to your normal grip after serving in preparation for the 3rd ball? Great content and tutorial, thanks!
@Technical.Table.Tennis4 жыл бұрын
It takes practice. Most pros use the pinch grip on almost every serve and have to readjust their grip back to shakehand in a split second. So it's pretty normal.
@RobertoCostas2 жыл бұрын
Once you are used to it, it's automatic and very quick. I don't even think about that after serving and the bat is ready for the next shot.

What is shown is this vid is more like a European style , which can be seen from Pitchford, Franziska , Falck and etc, but the Chinese reverse pendulum serve is another school , presented by ZJk, FZD and LJK , their toss is higher and a bit further from their body within more forhand and wrist shaking, and more explosive power , more spins and more deceptiveness, but all in all the key of chinese reverse pendulum serve is using the center of weight (core) , look at FZD how he swings his body back and forward to get the insane spin .
@Technical.Table.Tennis4 жыл бұрын

Jan, beginners need a medium speed blade and most 5-ply all wood blades are just that. They are flexible and you can really feel the ball. There's no better blade to develop your game with. I recommend the Yasaka Sweden Extra. It's only $29 USD

I am having a hard time getting past step 1. Been trying a lot without success> Major problems : 1) ball hits the top of net and bounces back most of the time (2) sometimes the ball comes off the racket like it just slips off with no spin and very weak and never go very far (3) when I try to adjust with more force to go over net, it will miss bounce on my side and just shoot over the net. (4) The very few times when successful, bounce on other side seems weak

What are the advantages of this serve? Since its so difficult there has to be some good reasons?
@harrybuckle7585 жыл бұрын
Because of the sidespin the opponent can realistically only return it to one side of table (the same side you served from). This allows you to ready yourself and attack the next ball comfortably as you know where the return will go.
@Technical.Table.Tennis4 жыл бұрын
I agree with Harry. Also the fact that it is less common so you can really shock players in tournaments who haven't encountered it before.
