This is one of the best videos on learning the serve that I have come across. I’m seeing a lot people at my local court do some really weird stuff with the serves these days. Including illegal or borderline illegal serves. I think a lot of us could benefit by going back to level one and re-learning.

I really appreciate it man!

This is great for beginners. Anytime I see people struggling with their serve, this is the video I'm going to send them. I have a couple serves in closed stance that are really tricky. Being able to coil your abs in open stance and really letting loose with a ton of topspin is my go to. A lot of rec players aren't used to serves hitting the baseline. It normally throws them off balance and then their returns are off their back foot, giving you a huge advantage

Correction, this is not one of the best videos, it is the best! No nonsense,every word is loaded with useable fact. Clarity with every word, I've played this video over and over again one step at a time. I take my computer to the the court and practice it until muscle memory sets in. this demonstration delivers, trust it.

I understand that the motion comes from the shoulder but the torque of the body is an important aspect as well. Just pulling the paddle back naturally adds torque if your body is loose. Also, a loose grip is important.

One of the best videos on learning the serve! One question, why would you not combine lv.4 and lv.5 for more power? Why lv.5 become open stance? Is there a benefit?
@robertdeblanc56533 ай бұрын
On combining level 4 &5; he quickly mentions exactly that at 14:25, but doesn't call it out specifically.
@PickleballKitchen3 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching. The Level 5 serve is mainly about the lag and snap. At that point in time, a lot of this stuff sort of gets combined together, but it's mainly about that snap. Open stance will give you a bit more control.

My serve problem is that I stands like the level 5, but my mentality and my body rotation are only level 2. I don't know how to improve

Send me a video of you serving and I’ll take a look.

I am also someone with no raquest sports background, and have watched so many videos. It seems many come from a tennis background so they have a pretty specific type of coaching and technique. How long did it take you to develop a consistent backswing and serve, i have been playing for a year few times a week and still struggle with the proper technique.

It definitely took a couple years to get to where I am now, but I'm still evolving it. Keep in mind, I did play golf, so that's not nothing.

Looking at your Level 5 serve, you seem to be tossing the ball up slightly, which I was told is illegal; it has to be a drop.
@PickleballKitchen3 ай бұрын
It is not illegal, there's some text at the very beginning of the video explaining that. Thanks for watching!
@davevaebutuoy3 ай бұрын
@@PickleballKitchen Thanks for the quick response. Rule 4.A.8.b says ...the ball shall not be propelled in any direction... prior to striking the ball. That said, I now realize that this text is with reference to a drop serve, not a volley serve.

Can you tell me what's going on? Perhaps I can help.
@Bee-of5xz3 ай бұрын
@@PickleballKitchen my serve usually is too long. To compensate for that I stand about 1 to 1/2 meter back. When I face towards the receiver, the ball is usually out towards the net poll. Also, I have low success rate serving on the uneven court side. Please advise!

How high does your serve go?
@Bee-of5xz3 ай бұрын
@@PickleballKitchen around 4ft over the net
@PickleballKitchen3 ай бұрын
@@Bee-of5xz I would try to hit the ball a bit lower and with more topspin. That should help out a lot.

I use a similar motion as level 4 or 5 but utilize a drop serve. Should I do the volley serve instead? Does it really matter as long as get the torque and power?
@PickleballKitchen2 ай бұрын
The volley serve will likely give you a bit more power, but I don't think it's a massive game changer. I've seen people do both just fine. Overall, I wouldn't worry about it.
