Tape spec is the most commonly used one here in NZ. I’d say it’s right up there with frog tape. They have a version that says it lasts up to 60 days as well. Idk what they use in it, it’s not the same as the paint block thing frog tape has, but it still get you very sharp lines. Definitely worth trying out.

When we mask to painted ceilings we like to use the Yellow Frog Tape, it's a more gentle adhesive. It won't tear the ceiling (usually) especially freshly painted surfaces since we do mostly new construction.

Have you tested with Yellow Frog Tape (for Delicate Surfaces)? Sherwin Williams store rep suggested using yellow tape on recently painted surfaces to avoid peeling. Basically, wait at least 24 hours for the paint to dry. Rated for 60 hours of hold time.

I use it, especially with painting two different colors on either side of a rounded corners. It does work well using it over fresh paint...it’s super super thin and delicate.

For production, obviously keeping costs down is so important because you just fly through production tape. For personal preference as a business owner, how do you rate 3M 2020 vs 3M 2090 vs the orange Shur-Tape? I recently used 2090 to mask floors, windows, and door glass in a whole house job, and loved the performance but wondered if the orange ShurTape or 2020 would have performed just as well for a fraction of the cost. Input on that topic would be much appreciated!

I just started using super gentle purple tape (the new blue) that is awesome for all Kinds of scenarios might try to find some production tape ive been using IPG for that and for the last year it has been giving issues in certain batches . I'm going to ask my paint store about that orange tape.

Chris, Have you ever used the Sandpaper trick on a stippled ceiling or flat ceiling. To get a crisp paint line edge. An old painter showed me that trick years ago.

jacq melrae Take a piece of 8x10 sandpaper and double fold it. Creating a 4x5 square. Now run that edge of the paper on the ceiling where it meets the wall 90. It creates a small line crevice that holds the paint on a sharp edge when you trim with your brush.

I’m a drywaller in Michigan and always sand a groove in textured ceilings for the painters. Any good drywaller will have done that for u already.

Put the delicate frog tap on an oak floor when painting baseboards with white oil enamel. Tape bled under the edges. Frog tape says solvent based paints cause an issue with blocking agent. Any suggestions about what type of tape to use for this application?

I use damp cotton rag just around my finger and run around paint edge it activates the seal. Let it dry then test enamel. It should work.
