*6. LED lights (when done improperly):* LEDs are often not installed properly on these cars and therefore flicker/cause errors. If you want to install these lights the right way, however, see this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3TCoaetp8SSbKs

As you stated in your video some people like these bad mods. I personally have stock low beam and high beam bulbs but i changed my fog lights, marker lights, brake lights, and those little city light bulbs next to the headlights. I love watching them all flash back and forth after i close the doors and lock it.

I had my tint guy do my LED headlights and f/r directional strips on my 94 9-3. Great job on the install. At first the flicker annoyed me but then people would ask whenever I parked, "Why are your lights flickering like that?" To which I would reply "Oh, that's just my fancy security system saying it is going into "Full Activation" mode." After I while, I came to like the flicker. What I don't like is the frequent error messages that pop up INSIDE the car! That is hella annoying. I peeped out Maptune's LED enabler and have thought about it but i like my flicker, lol

@@DS-nq1dg Yes i agree with you I know the error ding dong in my 2003 NG 9-3 is more annoying because people think my car has no lights or is dangerous to ride in. Lol

For all the UK watchers a BOV is also called a dump valve. The 5 mods you memtioned could cover a lot of cars other than Saab too. The large rear wings are the worst for me. Great video.

Like the respect you are providing to a battered brand. These cars are very good looking, exiting to drive and if proper maintinenced, a really trusty companion. And by the way, the wing on P-A´s silver 93 needs to be big for a reason, 700bhp and four wheel drive needs downforce. Keep up the good work!

I have a “cold air” intake that I made myself. It shields the intake filter from the engine and I’ve felt it before with a 20+ degree difference between the engine and the filter “housing”. I am, however, guilty of the blow off valve. Been running a Greddy Type-S (same as Brian’s Mitsubishi from F&F) for about 5k miles and I’ve had 0 issues with it. Truthfully, I want to redo it on the charge pipe before the intercooler, but you live and learn. Looks decent on my car since everything minus the polished housing is black

How'd you get the car to run right with a bov?
@nikdelano
@nikdelano 2 жыл бұрын
@@iceman5117 The stock bypass valve is run off a control solenoid/valve and it’s opened electronically. If you do end up putting one on your car, you HAVE to route your vacuum line that actuates your blow off from that little module. It is a little black box that hangs around your ECU and has 3 vacuum lines. The one you need to run to your BOV is the one that sticks straight up off that sensor/valve/solenoid thing. You’re also better off going to Amazon and buying a TD-04 bypass block off plate to prevent a sputtering feeling that’s caused by the bypass valve opening and closing under boost (that solenoid/valve thing holds it closed normally). If you have any questions or want photos/deeper explanation, feel free to message me on my Instagram: @secretcatalyst

My mods only involve copious amounts of duct-tape :| Broken air-shield under the car? Duct-tape. Car gets hit while you pop into the store for 10 minutes with no number left or anything and the lower splitter hanging off? Duct-tape. Weather stripping disintegrates to nothing on mirror housings? Duct-tape. Roof antenna cracks into 4 pieces from old age? Duct-tape wrap. Vacuum line to the pump splits in half while you have 4 people in the car and are on your way to the mountains? You bet your ass it's heat-proof duct-tape. That being said, thanks for the video and good luck with the Sub numbers, hope more people catch on what a great channel you've got, especially for us DIY-ers. Take care and have a great week!

When i put a typical shitmod hot air intake without heatshield on my '03 2.0t i was very happy with the sound but performance downgrade was very unnoticable because it was a winter in siberia back then. But even then i felt the car pull a little weaker. A couple of weeks ago i put a stock intake box back and maaaaaan the car became faster, insane deffirence. Hot air intake in extremly hot day with AC on and in traffic jam was the moment i almost cooked my ECU, the car completly lost all the juice, touching gas pedal only makes car shake more. By the time in '00 9-5 V6 because of placement of srock air cleaner box the pod filter mod became a real cold air intake with noticable power gain. And the sound is fabulous ofcource :)

Technically, it's called a short ram intake. People buy short rams because they are cheap and much easier to install. As for a atmospheric BOV, they do have a use and it's not so much as just for sound. The BOzv does hold boost pressure much better for a turbo car, especially if you are running higher boost pressures. I'm not saying everyone should have one or even use it, but it does serve a purpose if used correctly.

Although a big wing would look silly on a Saab..I think u lost credibility saying u don't need downforce on a fwd car. Big wings don't even take effect till you're 60km plus, so they have nothing to do with acceleration traction. I'm sure you've seen the Stig drive a Saab and you can spot when a wing would have been beneficial.

Great video, good things too know, and the purist pov is completely understandable, and an acceptable route to take depending on situation.... I'm in the opposite camp... I'm Australian so getting oem parts for my 2005 saab 9-3 turbo is not possible at all.. we just don't have saab support or wrecked here, we have to go through importers who buy from England, and simple parts are usually around $800 to $1200 after middleman fees, import fees.. I've always worked in the aftermarket industry so I've always been situation considerate on a car by car basis on modifying.. But im in the drag racing and drifting and engineering business so I'm obviously modify bias 😂.. But yes, I'm in Australia and my 9-3 turbo 2005 currently needs a new throttle body, I'm getting p0328 or p0238 or something, ( I have a obd2 scanner and code deleter) and I need a new throttle body as mine is worn out and the voltages from the 2 motors are not balancing to 5v and my throttle is out by 12% to 18% triggering limp mode... and now my and traction control is malfunctioning, and the ECU was just replaced with a mail swap from England for $1200AUD and it wasn't even the problem it turned out to be cool packs so they got swapped for new ones too.. then I bought the car because the owner was terrified of chasing gremlins in a car he doesn't understand the electronics of? Now I've got the car out of limp and drivable again, I'm not sure if I should buy a stock own throttle body? At $1100aud ? Then buy a new and controller? For likely another $1200aud, and still be worried about what goes next?? I am considering swapping the saab ECU system out completely, and going to a fully aftermarket haltech ECU and loom, and piggybacking the body control modules in the ECU or bcm ? So I can use local fly by wire throttle bodies i can get for subarus or ls 5.7 engines, or 4l Australian Barra engine fly by wire throttle bodies that I can get for $40 tested with warranty, and run all the saab functions through canbus from now on... ❤❤. I would also get the bonus of duty cycle control, timing control, boost control, open loop or closed loop tuning, remove outdated garbage sensors that saab never should have used in 2005 like a mad sensor? And just go full map sensor, and afr monitoring.. Id just need to piggy back the body controll and the auto gearbox from the original ECU and bms... Or are there any tuners readingv this that know better? Are 9-3 saab ecu's from 2005 tunable? Flashable? And rewritable? Like an Australian barra falcon turbo ecu? Can you jailbreak them and rewrite tunes? If anyone has this Intel, please respond... I'm in a bit of a pickle here down under.... But I am very modern car and modified car, and tuning ECU literate... please help if you have done or know of a similar ECU upgrade...

@@AutoAutopsy oh no, I would never use one of those amateur system for flashing a map on a saab ECU, oh gosh no, I would stay 100% stock if I was using the saab ECU... What I'm considering is buying a haltech elite for $1000usd with a half loom I can wire into the engine and the dash and abs speed sensors, piggy backing the saab ECU to run the automatic and body controls , and go full haltech controlled engine, fuel map , duty cycle, vvt cam timing, coil spark , internal haltech map sensor so delete the intake map sensor and the stupid maf sensor that was the only outdated thing they put on this car and very silly of them, swap the narrowband o2 for a wideband 02, even the damn throttle body throwing the saab one straight in the bin haha, and getting a Subaru forester one or a ford barra one, is have boost control too 36 psi lol, 12 or 14 would do fine on stock rods.. you could have flex fuel e85 to 94 , it would be amazing, id be comfy doing valve springs and 800cc injectors and putting headstuds in it and pushing to 16psi on stock block, and just that would be a 350hp up to 400ish if you dare to tell rods lol... then only $1200 more to buy forged pistols with h beam rods rings and all bearings to suit, then bam she's good for 28psi monster turbo, 1800cc injectors, 460lph pump, adjustable fuel reg, we looking at 550 to 700 if your into that lol.. But seriously , the haltech cost less than 3 parts from saab , and we need a new module twice a year

I've been told that the OG9-3 has a very light rear. So the rear comes flying out when cornering, at least in the snow. I haven't noticed that so much in my wife's 2012 9-3, but my old 9000 did that to some degree. But of course a huge ass spoiler is not going to help with that (cornering on the ice).

I recently spoke with swedish saab specialist and he told me that when you "enhance" your saab with these kits from example maptun, you can't just run that on your car and think that you good to go. There is a lot of testing and engine adjustments that needs to be done aswell. Otherwise there is the risk of missfires and engine failure.

It is a turbo car, intake air temperature doesn't matter because the turbo heats up the air so much while it passes hence why you have an intercooler, what you said is true for N/A cars but on turbo cars you want the least amount of resistance.

I think that you're both right. The fact that the SAABs have front-mounted intercoolers (instead of top-mounted) makes the cooling very effective and the design of the air intake at the filter less important. But at the same time, the air intake on the 9-3 is very well designed - as AA says it's virtually a cold air intake with a panel filter - so why would you remove that and put in a hot, short ram intake? Ok - for the noise. I guess each to his own.

Agree, common sense and some point of "subtle". If I loved the Saab is that combination of wolf in sheep clothing and the right aggressive look of the standard "sport" accessories or some aftermarket but that mantains that subtle. I have a 9-3ss MY2003 Vector with Maptun Stage7+ and when you look externally is basically an Aero kit exterior. The most noticeable are the AP Racing brakes and ADV wheels, but you cannot imagine it has +310bhp/400NM, a Ferrita exhaust that turn heads, but without being that horrible ricer sound. Instead not being my everyday car anymore and the lack of good Saab service in my region, I've still have it, jointly with my '92 900 cabrio. I had the experience with different tuners, Abbot Racing, Nordic Uhr and Maptun, and the best and most reliable and also the one with a proper customer service, by far is a Maptun (Fredrik A. always is been a really helpful guy), after 18 years with the car. I've had quite some engine issues with it, due the first two tunes being too aggressive with the boost and forcing the engine and exhaust manifold and gearbox, but this was the excuse to improve it. Also is very important the balance (it looks common sense, but is incredible how many tunes in Saab are just horrendous on this matter), if you put too much power, if it doesn't come with better brakes, suspension etc..., is useless in this car, being FWD and the "weak" steering feel.

Big wings... Ok. So whoever says "but it's a front wheel drive car" needs to do some actual research into aerodynamics. They are designed to do much more than just deliver downforce to the rear. They "clean up" airflow and create more stability at higher speeds, and much more. I'm 50-50 about the plasti-dip just because being purely cosmetic it's a toss up in my opinion. Like what you like my guy. Finally I wanted to bring up the blow off valve. It's not so much that these cars don't like them, but it's more these cars tuning don't like them. Note that with the size turbos these use and what most people will upgrade to, the bypass/BPV or diverter valve is more than up to the task. However if you run a larger turbo you'll start running into compressor surge as BPV's generally aren't large enough relieve pressure fast enough. In that case a BOV really is the way to go. However when switching from bypass to blow off there is an inherent need for tuning. Realize that with a MAF system the ECU measures air mass flowing through the intake and when you close the throttle and have the bypass open that air is re-routed back to the pre-charge side of intake. This takes place after that MAF but the ECU is expecting this air to be there and is programmed to run accordingly. Now when you switch to a blow off valve without tuning for it, the ECU is expecting that air to be re-routed into the intake when I'm reality, it's gone. Dumped to the atmosphere. This causes a momentary very rich condition causing the car to just run like crap. Also remember that most vehicles (some factory tunes operate a bit different) leave the bypass or blow off valve open whole idling to prevent pressure buildup at idle (which would absolutely happen in a run-away situation) with a factory setup this will allow unmetered air to enter the intake track and cause misfiring due to a major lean condition. So mind that it's not that BOV's are bad for these cars. It's that they're unnecessary and without custom tuning will not run properly. And mind that big wings provide much more than just downforce to the rear of a car. And if someone actually tracks the car or has some "illegal" driving habits, the car will definitely benefit greatly from a big rear wing
