Clay spot on agree with you and an example is my dad who played in Pro Tournaments in the 40's when in his 20's only advice to me as an 11 year old for driving the ball was how to line up, and watch him with at 6’4” and a laid back spline angle with an easy swing was always in the center well down the fairway. Then with a killer 7 iron chip and a deadly putter stroke always scored well consistently! I am now retired and working on it.

This is really good as it puts the full swing together yet covers key parts including shallowing the club path. Drills or repetitions for each part are also critical. Look forward to comparing how this would look for a hybrid, a mid iron for example.

Hey Clay, been working and reworking through your systems as a member for the last couple months, and I gotta say it's doing some great things for my game! Just need to get a little better at building that muscle memory, through focused repetition, to ingrain the right techniques covered in the TSG sys. I find myself having mini breakthroughs, only to seemingly almost lose everything on the course, because I'm trying to think about too many thoughts at once, instead of just playing freely where the correct actions are second nature. One thing I think that would help me tremendously is a video discussing the subtle nuances between the driver and iron swing, as it fits into the 5 main keys of the TSG. I understand the basic principles to be the same, but with how you're striking the ball a bit differently in both areas, it seems the mechanics would have to be slightly different even as it pertains to angle of attack alone. Guess that could be a good office hour discussion. But I learn well from your teaching style so it would be a really good regular video as well! Anyway, keep.up the good work!

Great video Clay super helpful. Not sure if i should ask you here but I'll give it a shot (I am sure you likely have videos you could link me to). I have seeing a lot about shot shape lately with differences in advice. I have always heard that face dictates where the ball starts. However, when trying to hit a fade, for example, I see more and more to start the face at the target and adjust your alignment and thus your path to the left (for a RH golfer). Wouldn't that start your ball at the target and fade away from it? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, the face does dictate mostly where the ball starts (about 80%). If you set up with the face square to the target, then it doesn't mean it will be square at impact. Where you strike the ball on the face matters too. If you hit the ball off the toe then it will open the face some and if you hit it on the heel, it will close the face. Play well! Wow!!! This is totally brilliant! I've come across all these tips in different places over the years, but never all in one place with such clear and specific parameters to aim for...this could be revolutionary for a lot of beginners looking to build a solid swing without spending a fortune on lessons, if they have the patience to video themselves and put in the time and effort to analyse themselves... Would it be possible to do a similar video for a mid-short iron eg. 7 iron, so we can extrapolate the differences as we go down the bag from driver? Big thanks for your efforts on this video!!!
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave! The concept is the same with every club. The only difference is that you hit down on the ball on the turf and up on the ball with a driver. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

I've just focused on the SL Release alone and in 2 days of practice focusing on that release point my golf swing has improved tremendously. I've been playing for 30 years and never knew about the SL Release. If there was ever a secret to golf this is it for me. Focusing on that release makes everything else work together. Does the SL release point change depending on the club you use? Does it move forward/backward going from wedges to the driver? Also, I've watched your pitching/chipping video and it seems that even with those swings you maintain the SL release to some degree. Is that an accurate observation? Anyway, If you have time to comment that would be awesome, and thank you so much for your free lessons! I can't wait to watch more videos on KZbin and the TSG website.
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff, thanks for sharing. Glad it helped and it sounds like you're on the right track. The release will be basically the same for all clubs but you may release it a little earlier if you want to add some loft and hit it higher and release it later if you want to deloft it and hit it lower. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Clay - you are a brilliant coach. BTW, a great drill for point 5 is to use an alignment stick and extend your club especially with an iron. It ensures your hands are forward at impact and no early release or flipping of hands.

Hey Clay - I enjoy your videos. The concern I have is you are referencing PGA tour players to us 'average Joe's' just trying to hit the ball straight. Distance doesn't (shouldn't) matter too much to us, but hitting the ball straight is more important to me, and by straight, I mean hitting the green from 150-200 yards out. I realize there are so many golf videos out there, we can each pick the ones that might help us. Your information here is great, but at 68, and in decent shape, my turn is less than optimal so I don't work on distance much, as I can use another club to get the distance I need. I think there is too much focus on hit the ball far (and straight) and I'd like to see more focus put on hitting the ball straight - what's needed mechanically to hit the ball straight. Sure, in-to-out or visa versa causes a hook or slice and over-the-top is not good. Just my thoughts.
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for sharing. All these things in the video are to help you hit the ball straight and some have more focus on distance. There is a reason why distance is the focus you see most anywhere. It's because it's proven to be the highest correlation to lowering your scores. It's fine if you want to focus on hitting it straight but you may have more success if you focus on distance too. If you release at 45° or think about releasing at 45°. Does that automatically gives you lag without thinking about lag?
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Walner, not necessarily. It's rare but I have seen casting with a release out in front. It's really difficult to release the club 45 degrees out in front if you don't have lag. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@DASH1ful
@DASH1ful 4 жыл бұрын
one thing that you have to do to enable youself to create lag, is to press down with the left side of head as you start down. so, it is fair to say that you don't get as much lag as you could. right eye over the ball at impact.

Think it might be worth mentioning that the angle of lag you can see in 2 dimensions is fictional since a lot of it is due to the club shallowing a lot. I know you explain that in the system but just for clarity for the youtube viewers that wonder how the heck they can create that angle with their wrists (impossible). Good video.
@TopSpeedGolf
@TopSpeedGolf 4 жыл бұрын
You're exactly right. You can only really bend your wrist about 20 degrees max. The appearance of the sharper angle is from shallowing and the momentum of the club. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Problem with all this traditional teaching is that in a proper swing all these things are natural and do not have to be considered. There are pros who set their wrists early, Michelle Wie comes to mind, Tonny Finau is another. There are quite a few.

Tilt att address makes me want to unsubscribe... First, you talk about how the pro does. Yes, they have a tilt at the IMPACT position. Please give me the average of the pro when they start the swing. Your advice to us seems to be around 10-25 degrees, yes?! Guess what; The pro has close to ZERO! They create the tilt at impact by moving the lower body, nothing else. (That's the true explanation if we want to simplify it.) Really don't understand why you use a number of tour examples while ignoring the most important one. (Tilt at address, why?! Surely not because the tour pro does it, right?!)
