I disagree on Ezio not growing all that much in 2. If we’re ignoring Brotherhood and Revelations then Ezio’s decision not to kill Rodrigo shows his growth. He’s moved beyond his bloodlust. This was before we knew we’d get a sequel, so it looked like Ezio was leaving the Assassin life behind. And it still would have been a satisfying story. I also point to the Bonfire of the Vanities DLC with his speech, which also paints his growth pretty well.
@terryprice16913 жыл бұрын
Plus how could they criticize Ezio’s growth but Nate doesn’t have a problem with Jacob Frye? That guy has been a douche bag throughout the entirety of Syndicate 💀 he didn’t really change until the Jack the Ripper DLC.
@spelareNR142 жыл бұрын
@@terryprice1691 i know what you mean. But it could be because Syndicate takes place during a single year. Ik AC1 does that too, but I will give it a pass since this was obviously the first game.

Ezio had a lot of character development in this game! He started off seeking vengeance but then he slowly became a true assasin and the allies he had made helped and influenced him

Introductions story points are important but the point was just that it's a slow intro in terms of gameplay and what you're actually doing.

@EmperorEredin3 жыл бұрын
This is my favourite game of all time so my opinion maybe a bit biased but I personally don't agree with the fact that the game starts too slow. The modern day intro with Desmond is a bit too long but as soon as you play with Ezio I think personally that every mission you did even if it was useless like the Leonardo mission it ultimatly helped build Ezio's character and our relationship with him because we got to see a bit of his life when he was young and his relationship with his family before his world got torn apart. I also didn't agree with the fact that Ezio doesn't really change in AC 2 because he does start out as a young guy that isn't really serious and likes to joke but at the end of the game he has a conversation with Leonardo when he understands the true meaning of the codex and he says how he now feels about the death of his father and brothers and in the dlc when he talks to the crowd when they want to burn that monk, you can see that he really did change and even in brotherhood when he becomes a mentor and Machiavelli says he intends to write a book about him he still jokes so I don't think him not being serious all the time doesn't mean that he didn't change in AC 2. Now if there's one thing I can say I think AC 2 did wrong that you guys didn't mention is the dlc because sequence 12 and 13 just take you out of the flow of the game and they are a struggle to go through because they are a bit repetetive and I think the only good thing in that dlc is the speech he gives and the reason that Ezio is nearly 40 in Brotherhood and so much time goes by in this game it's because like more than a decade goes by during that dlc while Ezio searches for the monk without it being properly showed that all this time went by.

I think there was story about how the first guy that was the creator of the idea of Assassin’s Creed actually came up with the idea in high school, which makes a lot of sense because it’s based on the psychologist idea of Karl Jung where the animus actually came from his term of means like masculine parts of a woman’s psyche, but the ancestors memory actually connects kinda with Karl’s theory of collective unconscious with connecting to past relatives since the meaning of that term is inherited human experiences. So it would’ve been great if he could’ve continued the series because they’re really leaning away from like the collective unconscious without having it be the modern days protagonist, which I don’t mind to have now and then for interesting story aspects because then you could follow a character to their death with a sample from their corpse and they don’t need descendants, but I think that their still should be some games that feature the original intention of the animus to return to those cool theories past psychologists came up with and concepts that we’re kinda losing by like the current standard of like finding Eivor and Bayek’s, and Aya’s corpse it’s not longer leaning into the theories it’s based on.

1 is horrendous. He starts off as a egotistical kid fucking around, sees his family get killed, then starts an assassin life to become an adult. He's still a player but he has found balance and understanding. He goes from a stupid bloodthirsty kid just looking for revenge on his family, to sparing the life of his sworn enemy Rodrigo Borgia bc he realized it would not bring his family back. The main story arch in this game is character development at it's core. Terrible take and to have it at 1 is a disgrace to the assassin order
@visionary11383 жыл бұрын
His development is like flipping a switch in the final sequence where he randomly just decides not to kill Rodrigo. It's not like that decision was built up to in the slightest. It just happened at the very end. Character development isn't you're almost the exact same until one final decision. That's not how writing works.

Not a fan of 3 as a "wrong" for the game or franchise. The slower intro was necessary to set up the ezio saga. They also had to push desmond into the assassin group AND set up ezio's revenge arch. If the AC2 story is based on the revenge motif, having the backstory to ezio, his family, and the time period is a requirement. While i get that it's a slow burn, there is definitely a purpose behind why they did it that way. Maybe they couldve shaved off some fat with it, but i actually enjoy the slow roll in 2

And to be fair the wouldn’t do it right anyway so there’d be no point to get hyped for it. It’s possible sure and maybe I’m just being a pessimist but they haven’t impressed me since unity. That laid the ground work for an amazing succession of games. But they botched it with syndicate and just scrapped it all together for a dumbed down rpg knockoff franchise.

The biggest problem with ac2 is the detection system. The combat is basic and boring, the parkour is laughable even for back then, but the detection system is absolute crap. People will detect you from across the map, and when you assassinate people a lot of the time they'll detect you in the frame right as you hit them. It's especially great when you CAN'T BE DETECTED IN THE MISSION.
