I agree I'm autistic and 16 years old. People tell me that I don't look like anything is wrong with me so they just assume I act different for attention and because of this people tend to avoid me. I have been bullies all the way through school starting in 2nd grade and still going on. I love your video Ian it really is true. I hope that this video gets to a lot of people who will learn to better understand the spectrum. I love you guys.

More than just human imo. Superhumans to be exact. It was my late grandfather's belief (shared among Apostles in our church during his time in the 70-80's) that those with mental disabilities or physical disabilities were part of that strong, choice army of God that fought valuably before coming here and were the ones who actually protected the elect and cast Satan out of heaven and his sons of perdition. The more serious the disability, the higher the calling was. They volunteered to come here and live this life to help others learn to become more like God by learning patience, charity, empathy, compassion, and so on.

I'm very curious, how did you get her diagnosed so young? My little girl is 5 and the last appt she had with our kids' regular pediatrician she had told us that my girl, Sadie, was showing signs of autism and asked if we'd evaluated her just yet. What do you think of the following symptoms she has displayed?: Very delayed speech (3-4 yrs old) Severe speech impediments Very delayed walking (3?) Painfully shy and acts like a cat instead of a human when meeting new people and will not talk.

Thank you for sharing Ian. I think the more people talk about autism and what it's like the more people become aware. Here are my five things and this is my case... 1. I am not all about socializing and talking to people. If it's family and close friends, that's different. But other than that, it's a no go. Unfortunately though, some people view it as just being shy or being rude or snobby. But that's their problem. 2. I don't appreciate it when people talk to me like I'm stupid or raise their voice at me. Just because I don't talk, doesn't mean I cannot hear. 3. I love Halloween and still trick or treat even though I just turned 20. It just blows my mind how some people just gets upset over a teenager age, maybe even a college aged or even a full grown adult maybe just having fun. For me, we just do it at the houses we know and understand. This year my costume has a toy shield that I have and I use it to hide my face. That's what I did last year. 4. I love Vikings, hippies, and ducks!!!! Turkeys and chickens too. 5. I like making things up because I feel it's an escape from reality and it's just my happy spots.

I have Septo Optic Dysplasia. Because of SOD, I was born totally blind, and I’m also on the autism spectrum, and I have complex PTSD. I get number 5 very well. I wish people would understand as well. People tend to stereotype me because of my blindness and autism and CPTSD. I use a feature of my phone called VoiceOver, and it reads comments and texts and stuff like that to me. But people just ask me ignorant questions because they don’t understand or care about how the blind and autistic community really works.

Thanks Ian! Your list and thoughts are very insightful. I'm a mom of a 4 year-old autistic son who is nonverbal at the moment. It's sometimes hard to understand his needs, but I try my best. He's really good at taking my hand to show me what he wants, and I can tell from his stimming when he really enjoys something. I try to provide more of what he enjoys because I enjoy seeing him happy. As he gets older, I want to feed his obsessions. I wonder what your next steps with cars are. Do you hope to build them one day? That would be awesome. Continue sharing your wisdom and enjoying life. Thanks, again.

Ian, that’s an excellent description of anxiety in asd. You should look into some of the programs offered by the statewide independent living council when he’s a bit older- they have a free youth leadership conference (looks like it’s called ninja in Utah) and council focused on empowering youth with disabilities in self advocacy and future planning.

Lovely video Ian, being near 80 lifelong Autistic, have learned to not expect others to understand, we are quite different and unique, but require constant self "directing" of our obsessions, for example, fidgeting with hands and stimming is my main way of relieving tensions but have learned over many decades to consciously direct my stimming into Martial Arts movements, dancing, breathing exercises, UPRIGHT POSTURE, thus forcing me to perfect movements on both right and left side of body, in this way the brain is forced to grow symmetrically but takes time! Concentration on posture is essential and the study of human anatomy, another obsession of mine, adds another dimension to my stimming, another way for mind to feel/sense movements by knowing exactly what body part is moving and how! Mental balance BEGINS with physical balance = symmetrical well-trained mind and body ~~ good job Ian~~

I like autism but sometimes I get annoyed about how my life has happened so far. I didn't understand why I wasn't able to take care of all the loose ends in my life, and why I needed to be alone. I've learned to accept myself, but I wish I had more help and understanding at a sooner time in my life. I feel very upset that I haven't been able to accomplish as much as my siblings, and its been a struggle trying to meet my own and my parent's expectations. I like being different and focusing a lot on a few things, I think it will be okay, but I wish I could go back and teach myself about how to have a job and deal with sensory issues I didn't realize I was avoiding. I quit jobs because of dress code and I had a strange experience being "black balled" at a job because I wasn't perceived as being serious, I had one manager that seemed to realize that I was getting put out and he explained what was happening. I am grateful to the people that were able to have uncomfortable conversations and help me understand myself. I've figured out how to stim in a way that is invisible usually, and that is great because I can release a lot of energy that way without hiding it completely.

Some people judge people with ADHD or autism because they don't understand cuz they really haven't went through what we had. But we are going through throughout our life. But once people get to know us like me people love me to death brother. It's like I got 20 Mexican friends, 20 Chinese friends, 50 African American friends, 550 country, friends and all the customers have my job. I work at Walmart. They love me. They always compliment me for how good of a job I work. I have a very hard worker. It's so in charges you like they used to do with me whenever. I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I didn't have many friends up there but now that I move down to shallotte North Carolina, I am like I'm a country legend group. I know because I'm 30 years old. I am also into my ancestry and I like to collect bullet shells bullet heads crystals. I collect the rebel flag. I collect Irish flag of Scottish flag. I have two tattoos. One of the Celtic cross. The other one is a tattoo that says Scotland forever. If you ever feel like you are in a tough spot, just pray. Tell your family that I said hello. I know what I'm talking about. I've been through this. You will make you just like I will. Just have to give it time. The older you get some the wireless are you get people always say that I am very very wise for my age. God bless you you have a blessed day brother. Much love, your friend, Nathan Ian Verzinskie

I hope to get a video up of the candy bombing done in his honor for the first time by two helicopters and share a whole bunch of pictures of AWESOME cars!!!! I have a video up of a small but very high end sports car show that was at the Orem City Park this past summer as well. My only son is also autistic and has severe ADHD.
