#6: NEVER put “regular”antifreeze into your C6’s cooling system; it is corrosive to the lining and will cause undue and expensive damage. The C6 requires a specific antifreeze like DexCool; #7: If you find the rear end differential is making a “chattering” sensation while negotiating turns with maximum or near maximum steering wheel deflection, it’s time to change the differential fluid. NEVER replace it with ordinary differential fluid; the C6 differential requires a fluid with a special anti-slip additive to prevent the gears from chafing and causing metal shards to break off and cause damage to the differential mechanism. Happy Motoring!!!😎

Hold up and I usually do it twice to just ensure...then pop door open..see it drop 1/4 inch..close door and it goes to full up.

Clutch fluid gets dark fast. I found the best way to tell how bad it is, is by using a TEQ Brake Fluid Liquid Tester Pen. They're cheap and do a good job of reading the moisture level in DOT 3 and DOT 4 fluids. I run DOT5.1 for my brakes, but I still use it to test the brake fluid. I'd recommend using that meter to keep up with how contaminated our brake and clutch fluids are. I think if you take your car to the track, using this meter is very important. If you wish to avoid future clutch issues, the meter will help with that also.

All good advice Lyle. When changing the battery, so one doesn't lose all factory memory settings, one's personal radio settings etc., would hooking up a battery tender to the battery cables first before disconnecting them to change out the battery maintain all the settings? Save the Wave👋
@BrisLS13 жыл бұрын
Good advice. I would add, be very careful with the rear hatch. If it clicks, it is down. Don't press on it, expecting it to firm up. I cracked a panel doing that, and the body shop will try to fix it, rather than replace it, but it will never be perfect again. Also, figure out your strategy for storing the car. Tend the battery, or take the battery out. For fuel, your guess is as good as mine, leave it low, or leave it full? There has to be something we can do to preserve the fuel sending units and the connection between the 2 rear tanks. Cost me $2000 to replace all that when it failed at 18,000 miles.
@philwier2786 Жыл бұрын
According to a few sources, you need to store your C-5 or C-6 with a 1/4 tank. They indicate that the sulfur content of the fuel is tough on the system, but your car does have a certain amount of protection when the fuel level is too low to touch the parts that the sulfur can affect. You can take that for what it's worth, but those sources say 1/4 a tank is optimum. Also, in the old days, gas tanks were "open" systems and prone to building up moisture, but the C5, as well as the C6, are "closed" and not prone to this issue. So, it appears moisture build-up in those closed tanks is not an issue.

I don't know enough about electrics to know which connectors to test. I don't even know what fuse controls the trunk lights. The other courtesy lights work fine. Never neglect the clutch fluid in a manual car. When it is black, change it! Never change the engine oil in a Z06, ZR1 or Grand Sport coupe manual transmission by adding the oil to the passenger-side valve cover plug. It's under the injector cover for a reason! Read the owner's manual! It has a dry sump engine. First, that plug is locked in and if you force it open, you will probably break the plastic tabs into the area under the valve cover and then have loose plastic bits in your $15000 hand-assembled engine. Second, the engine oil pan cannot hold all 10+ quarts and it will starve your engine of oil until the scavenge pump can send it all back to the dry sump and the supply oil pump can then feed the engine. You'll probably eat a main bearing or a lifter. Third, most of the time you will have too much oil in the dry sump before the supply pump has properly fed the engine, which will vent to the intake and give you fits burning oil for a couple hundred miles, if you get lucky and don't hydraulically lock a cylinder.

bic1498 rangers method is not the proper way to change out your clutch fluid.. you need to get behind the torque tube to access the drain plug which requires you to drop the rear end.. rangers method is a temporary fix not a complete flush.. the cap with the oil grade on it is where I would refill the oil through.. @@sulkmahidonkeydek3424 If you want to put your car on a lift, drop the rear end out and have to re-do your alignment just to flush your clutch fluid ... enjoy yourself! I put a tire onto my bare leather passenger seat, figuring if left any tire marks on my seat, the marks would easily wipe off. I was wrong. The marks do not wipe off! Some kinda chemical reaction occurred between the leather and the tire, and 3 different leather cleaning products wouldn't even fade the resulting tire marks. It's quite permanent. Thing #6 to never do is transport a tire in your passenger seat without covering the passenger seat with blankets on the seat and blankets on the back and being really careful not to let the tire contact leather.

All the engine's internal bearing tolerances are tuned for a specific oil viscosity. That means crank, rods, camshafts, pistons, rings, everything. We can use low viscosity oils today because modern production techniques can maintain rigid consistency for critical dimensions. Viscosity is equally important for older engines. If your classic 1980s BMW calls for 20W50 (which it does), use that. IMO, the cheapest oil Walmart sells of the correct viscosity, is the superior choice over the very best oil of the wrong viscosity. I ran a 1987 BMW 325e out to about 350,000 miles on Walmart's 'Super Tech' non-synthetic 20W50. It had good compression, low oil consumption, and ran perfectly when I sold it.

2006 Corvette Convertible- This has been a great car, bought it in 2011 with 29 k miles, now it has 70 k miles-my wife has complained about a squeaking noise from driver side engine area that gets louder as the engine warms up-we have replaced harmonic balancer , both belts, and wheel bearing driver front. Noise is still there....any ideas on what to do next to identify this noise and fix it-Thanks Alan D

Indexing the Windows --Get into your vehicle and make sure both the driver and passenger doors are closed. --Turn the ignition switch to the On position, but with the engine off. On some Stingray models I have found if the following procedure fails repeat the procedure with the vehicle running. --Start with the driver-side and put the window all the way down and then back up. Now put the passenger-side window down and then back up. --Hold the driver-side window switch up for 3-5 seconds and then release the switch. For a second time hold the driver-side window switch up for 3-5 seconds and then release. --Repeat this process for the passenger-side window. Hold the passenger-side window switch in the up position for 3-5 seconds and then release the switch. For a second time hold the passenger-side window switch up for 3-5 seconds and then release. --To make sure the windows have indexed correctly, check your windows to see if the window lowers approximately 1/8-inch when opening the door and the window will go up into the window weatherstrip after closing the doors. --Now raise and lower both the driver and passenger side windows to ensure they work correctly. Repeat the steps above if this feature has not been reset. Put the windows in the up position, turn off the ignition, get out of the vehicle close the door, get back in the vehicle and repeat the steps above starting with holding the driver-side switch up for 3-5 seconds.

Concerning 06 C6 Convertible, NEVER, NEVER when putting the top back up ; let it “BANG” down into place. Put your hand up and ease it down the last bit then latch it. This wii save the mechanism!

Lyle I have another question for you. I just took my 2006 C6 Automatic Base Coupe out of storage in my Pole Barn. I keep a battery Tender on it like I do with all my Collector Cars. It started right up and ran nice. To make a long story as short as possible I had to take it to New Jersey Inspection last Friday. Before I left I had a problem getting it out of park but I did and drove the 10 miles or so to the NJ Inspection Station a waste of time being they only check emissions every 2 years. My C6 still has low miles on it less then 15k and looks like brand new inside and out. The inspector inspected and drove it up to me shutting it off for me to get in after he installed a new sticker to leave. Once again I had a problem at first getting it out of park to drive it home. When I got it in front of my Pole Barn to move my C5 out of the way to put the C6 in my Car Lift area I noticed that it would not shift in to park from Neutral but it would go into drive. That’s is where it stands today in my lift area. I had to shut it off in Neutral. I then had to disconnect the battery so I took the negative cable off because in Neutral if I didn’t I could clearly see I would end up with a dead battery. Looking on the Corvette Forum where I am months shy of being a 20 year member and on You Tube I have seen many try to fix this situation with either breaking or cutting the Plastic Pawl that won’t let it shift as of the moment. Some claim it is a micro switch problem or Solenoid problem. Some tie the Pawl open with wire under the console and some run a lead from the Pawl into the console to pull the Pawl Open if needed. What I am asking here from you if you don’t mine is what is the correct fix for this problem? Being in NJ I am too far away from you in Sarasota,Florida. If you were close by I would send you some work. I have been driving and owning Corvettes since I was 19 years old way back in 1970 a year out of high school when I purchased my first 1967 Vert. Today at 71 years old I own 4 of them all Coupes ‘67,’73,’99 and 2006 just to give you a little of my background. I was in the Automotive Parts Business over 40 years retired now still maintaining what I could on my cars.

@@kevinmartin1204 thanks for the concern. Lyle is probably as busy as can be. I believe he might be headed to Carlisle,PA right now I thought I happened to read in another one of his You Tube Video’s advertisements I didn’t get to see as of the moment. My C6 is actually still in the lift area of my Pole Barn from I believe 2 weeks ago. July has been a very hot and humid month especially for me to work on cars outside. When I was a younger guy I had no problem working in the heat but that Pole Barn gets pretty warm in there during the Summer even with 2 Industrial Vintage Floor Fans going and a very large exhaust fan I installed in the back wall of my Barn 31 years ago. I have the console out of the car but stopped at the point of doing something with that Plastic Transmission Pawl not knowing which way I want to handle this. I know I don’t want to break it off like some others did. Right now my thought is to drill a hole in the back of the Pawl and tie it open with some mechanics wire and see how that works out. Doing it that way I can always go back to the original way it is suppose to operate in whether it be replace the Micro Switch or Solenoid which to me may not even be a very dependable fix. I just keep thinking what a jam I could of been in if I couldn’t of got it out of park in the inspection station. I guess at that point I would have had to call Triple AAA to come and tow it home. What a embarrassment that would of been. I want to avoid something like that ever happening. I don’t like rigging something up but rigging that Pawl to stay open might be the better option not to ever break down because of that Pawl locking up. It’s been happening to too many people from what I have read online in a C6 with a Automatic Transmission. Just my luck. I always owned manual transmission Corvettes. This is my first with a Automatic. I was looking at my age in 2017 when I purchased this Vette and the bumper to bumper traffic NJ has become today at times. There is nothing like being in bumper to bumper traffic with a Stick Shift vehicle that is for sure.

Honestly I would start with a brand new battery. Electronic issues are huge with C6s relating to low battery. I keep a tender on mine but the battery has still died eventually, so don't just think because you use a tender the battery is good enough. Seems cheaper than troubleshooting a transmission.

My clutch pedal is sticking in down position. I had event at two way stop, you go no you go OK I’ll go then both go. Now in go mode I try to stop, over rev dump the clutch kill the engine. Since then pedal sticks. Either hard to shift or won’t shift. I cleaned bowl pumped and pumped. Usually does the worst when coming to a stop. Troy

I was inserting grease into my (non-base) rear tie-rods last month and wondering if I was one of the only people in the US that did that? Also, on changing the differential oil on a cooled system, I wonder if I'm also one of the few people in the US that actually puts a cable tie around the flimsy clip?

For the new guys buying em reIndexing the windows literally takes 5 seconds. Roll all the way down and roll all the way up and hold for one sec until a almost unnoticeable click. You can do them both at the same time too

Lyle can you tell me if Chevrolet placed the C6 Corvette’s Computer under the battery as they did with the C5 Corvette? I have a AGM Battery in my C5 because of it. I also picked up a low mile C6 and I believe the Delco Battery in it is not a AGM Battery. I haven’t had any problems with the battery as of yet but would like to know for peace of mind whether I should get myself a AGM battery for it.

Ok, sounds like the complex procedure for transmission fluid level really applies to the automatic. But you don't do much to differentiate. I am taking it that the manual is much simpler and that on level ground, you can fill it up until it starts to drip out the fill hole. Is that correct, or is there more complexity to it than that?
@csvette Жыл бұрын
It is pretty much the same comical procedure. Get it warm, pull the fill plug--if it dribbles hot fluid all over you, it is full. :)

David if you ever want to take a few days away from your home work and come to Ky and help a poor guy get his car back right, I know a guy who desperately needs the help. ☺️ I always had my pops around that was amazing with cars and would be here in a second. He is no longer around and I have some things I am unsure what is wrong with my c6. Issue is these days no one will take the time to figure it out and they just want to charge and make money. My pops is the only reason I purchased the car and I am not even sure if I could afford to fix what’s wrong. Thought about selling it but I can’t. It’s my happiness and one of my biggest memories of my dad. I would do all the work, provide for your stay and feed you and give you the best hospitality if one day you just decide you would like to make a wish come true. Not asking for a hand out but also not sure if I could handle to ticket. Just the time and help to check the issues I am having is what I need most. Would also love to lay back under a car like I use to when he was around for the memories. You never know in life unless you ask 🤷🏻♂️ Worst you can get is a no! Anyways love the video and thanks for the help. Over here watching trying to trouble shoot and figure out why I may have my issues
