The other thing is if it seems toxic work environment dont stay for sake of experience. Look somewhere else.Always stand your ground and never tolerate an abuse from another nurse ,manager or patient.Speak up .

I may not be in the business, but I love it; of course I’m biased but, good job, Baby! These can be applied in day to day, as well.

I'm so glad, I was able to view this video. Your positive outlook and advice was very helpful! I am currently in the process of applying for new grad programs, which type of questions are usually asked in interviews? is there a helpful resource to use to practice new grad positions questions?

@@delwin5433 Hi, I would highly recommend a New Grad Nurse Residency Program if you don't have any hospital experience. I had hospital experience as a Nurse Assistant prior to my New Grad Nurse Residency Program, but because there is such a steep learning curve, the New Grad Program really helped build my skills and confidence with all the extra classes, resources, and support that come with being a part of a New Grad Program. I hope this helps! 🙂

Hii I just got accepted to a new grad residency program and will also be in float pool! I am very excited, yet also nervous about floating to multiple units. Being a new grad its already hard getting acclimated to one unit let alone multiple. How was your experience and do you have any tips for me! Thank you

Can I ask if you have worked as an assistant such as CNA or PCA while you were in nursing school?

@@LifeALaKC Thank you for letting me know! Would you recommend me working as PCA or having internship if I can do only one?

@@lindseychoi If there is a specific unit you would really like to work on as a nurse AND you can get an internship on that unit, I'd recommend getting that internship. I didn't have an internship, but those in my new grad cohort who did have an intership got hired on the same unit they did their internship on. If you don't know where you'd like to work yet, I'd recommend working as a PCA because as a PCA, you are responsible for your own assignment of patients, you'll practice time management, patient care, bedside manners, etc. PCAs do a lot of the same things that nurses do besides give medications. My PCA experience allowed me to speak confidently in my interviews about patient care, prioritizing which patient to see first, noticing changes in a patient and communicating that to the nurse, etc. Regardless of which you choose, either experience will give you an advantage as a candidate for a new grad residency program! I hope that helps!

@@LifeALaKC Wow! Your advice/tips help me a lot to make my decision. Def the best advice for me ever. Thank you soooo much! I would like to work in medical/surgical unit first and cardiac ICU unit later. I will look for Medical/Surgical unit internship when the hiring posts are open next year. I also would like to try PCA for more hands on experience but I heard some hospitals do not hire nursing students for PCA jobs because they want applicants who can work for a few years. But I will do my best to look for PCA jobs as well. Thank you once again! Hope everything goes well for you!

Thank you so much for this video, I am currently applying to a new grad program at a highly prestigious hospital located in northern California as well. Is there anyway that you can give me some tips about applying to a new grad program? I am graduating in May and I am very nervous about landing a job or getting into a new grad program, any tips would be helpful but I’ve been trying to prepare for this since last summer and the application process is in a few days. Thank you so much ! 🫶🏻

Thank you so much for watching and congrats on your journey thus far! I'm so so excited for you; May is just around the corner! 🥳 I honestly could (and should) make a whole video on this, but until then, here are some things I did before I applied that may have helped me and hopefully will help you too: 1. Apply to more than one New Grad Program 2. Research the hospital before writing your cover letter 3. Write a good cover letter -- there are so many helpful resources out there, but here's one: www.indeed.com/career-advice/resumes-cover-letters/nursing-cover-letter 4. Get certified in BLS and ACLS (and PALS, if applicable) 5. Include your clinical hours, certifications, work experience, awards, clubs/honor societies, and volunteer hours on a one-page resume (I recommend templates from Etsy and Canva) 6. Prepare, prepare, and prepare for your New Grad Program interviews! I'd watch every KZbin video available on this topic 🤓 I hope this little bit helps. I'll try to get a video out that might be more helpful for you, but you got this regardless! 🙌🏼
