Hey there! Im a new grad in the cath lab! Just about to be in 1 year. Love your channel content! I just subbed. I had a really good new grad residency experience. I didn't have to sign a contract and i started at like $40/hr. I think the culture of the hospital has a big influence on how well supported you are in the residency as well.

Congrats on hitting a year! It's crazy how fast time can fly when you're out of nursing school. Thanks for watching and subscribing! And yes, I totally agree. Culture of hospital makes a big difference. It sounds like you're well supported in your program!

4 months with a preceptor? Sounds amazing. At my hospital some units are only 8 week long orientations and week 1 isn’t even all shifts with a preceptor.

Oh wow, yeah our residency is mandatory we even have to do monthly classes! although some specialties like medsurg have shorter residency times.

Hi Tricia. I'm happy I came across your video. I currently live outside the US but signed a contract with an agency for a residency program since I do not have any working experience yet but I would like to know if there are free days you got during your residency program and were you allowed to work outside the facilities during your free days.

Hi Tricia! Could you by any chance discuss if grades matter in looking for a job? as in will the employer ask for your transcripts, how much do grades really matter, etc? I just did my first written assignment in nursing school and I thought I's at least get a high credit, an I got barely a pass, a grand total of 58.9/100... oh to my terror. its so discouraging and since I know nursing employment can be competitive.. can you provide some advice or discuss about this topic, please? thank you.

Jobs are not necessarily looking at the grades you make in nursing school. They don’t ask what grades have you received. They just want to know that you passed from an accredited college and that you got your state license.

Yes! Try to get a foot in the door through shadowing, volunteering, and other things that you may be able to find. It can be a big help into helping you get into a residency program

@@ShanyiaFerguson I completely forgot that I commented this. Lol. Thank you for replying. However, it is kind of a moot point because I ended up leaving the feild of nursing and switching majors. Nursing was so emotionally draining on me. I did well in the classroom, but at the bedside i was horrible. Now I'm studying to be an elementary school teacher! :) thanks for the reply though, I may pass this info along to my friend who is still in nursing school. :)

Hi, i like your videos, they are very helpful. Im looking into the residency programs as well and i was wondering if they are like school where we need to study pages and pages to take exams every few weeks to be able to pass the program? It'd doesn't have that info on any of the information i was able to find. Thank you in advance
@TriciaYsabelle3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruth! Thanks for watching! For my residency, we had maybe two tests total? an ekg and an overall critical care one that was specific to my unit. We had residency classes with other units once a month and classes for our specific unit online and in person. The in person was probably once a week or every other week for the first three months? And then once a month for the rest of residency. And the online one was through Ecco you can look them up! because of Ecco our first month, we only did two shifts a week! While the test is long, it’s really hard to not pass. Some people usually get dropped because they’re not a good fit for the unit but not really because of the written. Hope this helps!
