I worked at a GameStop as a seasonal employee for Christmas and one of my tasks was to sell Skylanders to a random person. I did complete the task rather quickly and even got them to buy an extra couple hundred dollars in extra Skylanders merchandise and the new portal they would need for the new updated game they just got (kid already had the original Skylanders) two years later I meet my new stepmom and she immediately begins to curse at me. she was that woman. she was that customer. her son had moved on to Skyrim like two days before that and never touched the Skylanders besides opening all the packages. also he singlehandedly made my life hell talking about mods and calling me a hacker when I bested him in any game when I was obviously sitting right next to him button mashing my life away while trying to talk on the phone.

And who expects a child to be happy when they walk to the Christmas tree and they see a large box . as they open the box the apple logo of that child's first computer blinds them as they soon turn to heavy tears of disappointment and the kid opened his next gift to see a pc battlefield 1 disk lying there as he then ran to room in tears to play fortnite on console. Meanwhile his parents had just sold it for enough money to get a Alienware pc. And that's what happens when you give your kids a mac.

about that no disc policy, some shops (like the electronic shop elgiganten in sweden) have some games with a special hard plastic case arouns the case with an alarm planted in it, usually on the more expensive games. that case can only be removed with a special tool the cashier has (or if you manage to steal it somehow and smashes it with a sledge, accidentally breaking the game too).

Back when Assassin's Creed 2 was fairly new my mom bought me a copy from Amazon. When Christmas came I opened it and was absolutely thrilled. I fell in love with the first game and I still love the series (even despite whats happened). So I went to play it and it said it needed a code, since it was the pc version and Ubisoft started in with their shenanigans. Since the game came pre owned, someone had already used the code. I didn't get to play Ac 2 until like 2 years ago. But it was well worth the wait.

My mom likes to use trick boxes (this time it was a coffee maker for your shower) from Kohl’s to hide actual presents and my older brother really wanted a specific game and he thought the box was his real gift. It was hilarious to see the hope vanish from his eyes as he unwrapped the gift. Also it took him a while to actually open the box and figure out that the game was really there.

I got an N64 with a couple of games a few years back. The guy told my parents that the ones he was selling them were in pristine condition. The console had writing on the bottom and the original small RAM pack. One of the games had a worn label and didn't work. He also charged for upgrades (to keep it simple) that weren't present. This is probably the exception and not the rule, but with certain gifts, consider having your kids or someone else you trust help you pick them up. It could also prevent a lot of the problems mentioned in the other lists.
