Pretty cool how these old pieces are still getting noticed years later. Piano sample reminds me of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood 😊

this was my first sampler in the late 90s, we never bothered figuring it out, just would manually loop to a tascam four track for three minutes and overdub, serious crunch.

Last Tuesday I finally got my hands on a Roland MS1 and quickly started making beats. I really liked how easy it is to use and I particularly liked the pads. One of the things to notice about this sampler is that if you set a certain sample rate to record and then want to record another sample at another sample rate, the first sound you sampled is modified. In other words, if I record in Hi-Fi and then want to record a sound in Standard, the first sound that was recorded in Hi-Fi remains at half the speed, which is also very interesting because it allows for a much lower pitch. which is achieved by modifying the pitch in the System section. It really is a great acquisition.
@spvidz2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I couldn’t work out why that was happening at first but you’re right. I have started sticking to one grade for now but I’m sure there is a lot of interesting things that can be done by taking advantage of that! Thanks for the info ✨

I have no idea why Roland would not add a sample downgrading function to the current SP line considering how many people use the SP for lofi.
@MK-vi2cm2 жыл бұрын
Because there's more than enough contrived "lofi" beats in the world. Also you can manually downgrade your samples multiple ways. Resample your sample at the highest pitch and then repitch it back to the base pitch and there's also the lofi effect and that's just for starters.
@dimensionstomorrow2 жыл бұрын
@@MK-vi2cm still not as convenient as it used to be on older devices and it brings a nice aesthetic for stuff like old boom bap, etc.

I think this is a really great idea… think How popular OTO biscuit is… I’ve been fiddling with lo-sample rates in various hardware devices, and software for years, but Roland have a particular knack for this… and getting it to sound GOOD… so if it could be integrated into a unit like say, the MK II- I would use it a lot! One situation I find myself in regularly is trying to mix music of different sample rates and qualities, which is where something like this would be really helpful.

Another great lofi roland sampler is the s330. You find them sometimes for 100€. A 12 bit sampler with a vga put for monitors and a mouse input. You can draw your synth waves in there. Lovely sounding sampler.

@@spvidz you definately should. A better choice will be the s550 because of a better workflow and larger display. But with a monitor the s330 is fine. Theres a nice controller available. Not necessary but nice to have.

Hi SPVIDZ, I recently bought a Roland MS-1 at a good price. Even came with a sampling CD. I need a memory card. I'm sure the firmware is from 1995. I'm looking for a memory card to use banks C,D,and E. Any suggestions?

I don’t have any advice really no. Mine came with a card and it’s a 1.8mb flashdisk card by Sandisk. Your best bet is checking the manual to see what it takes and then trying to hunt one down I reckon!

Appreciate the demo. I don’t feel any special warmth with this one. Sounds like a lowpass to me. Doesn’t add to what a Digitakt can do with it’s overdrive and bitcrusher. Anyway thanks for the demo, now I can let the one that came up for sale locally pass me by without a heavy heart :)
