Yea as a thin and fine haired natural I had to learn that i can’t or don’t need to do the same thing as others with thicker hair. I also don’t dust my hair and I only use detangling brushes during my wash day or sometimes if I’m doing a twist out but still I know I don’t really need it for twist out. I just need them for detangling. Something else I learned I can’t do is leave my hair and scalp dirty. I have to wash pretty regularly (every 1-2 weeks). I also learned I can’t wash in mini twists and I have to detangle regularly to prevent single strand knots from getting worse and taking me to the point of no return.

Its really important to know what works for YOU and what doesn’t. Good way to start a regimen. All the best 😉

My hair isn’t long yet but I definitely agree with this list! I will never copy products or regimens from other natural women just because our hair looks similar - I used to do this and the products and techniques never worked for me! I will also never leave a style in for longer than 2 weeks regardless of washing - instant matting. And I will also never cowash again

When i first started i heard of the LCO method to moisturize my hair. I saw them using water as liquid, heavey creams and for oil things like butters such as cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter, etc. I will never do that again. The water when dry it caused more shrinkage, dried it out to where it felt crusty; the heavey cream plus the oil butters did not penetrate my hair at all. So i had to scrap that. So to moisturize my hair i decided to do LO ie 1. The use of a product that had both liquid and cream- a product that had a good balance between being somewhat thick yet liquidy {almost like a moisturizing conditioner} 2. I then used an oil like olive oil or i would use my oil mix which had essential oils plus castor oil as the main ingriedient which was made a bit liquidy from the other oils like olive, coconut, etc. That gave me the greatest benifit in moisturizing and sealing my hair. You spoke of the baggy method or there is the greenhouse effect. I too cannot do it as my hair would be overly moisturised, mushy, left in a stretched state but look very straggly. When that took place i decided a few hours would preferable but with that my hair wasn't totally satisfied so i left baggy or greenhouse alone. What my hair benifited from was me moisturizing my hair and lightly oiling my scalp about day and a half before. The hair became supple and soft and easily managable and when i shampooed my hair there wasn't heavy stripping some amount of moisture was still retained. I don't like to shampoo my hair and it feels too squeaky clean cause when i move into the conditioning phase it makes it a little hard for me. The only way i would want it squeaky clean is when i know i have product build up and even then i use a moisturing tea rinse to get me going into my deep conditioning phase wether it is moisture or protein. Another thing is when I'm doing my protein deep conditioner i tend to round out the protein with moisture so when the protein tretment goes into my hair it will not be overpowering but yet still beneficial and my hair stayes soft/pliable.

I definitely agree with you about the micro-braids. They may look cute, but it will surely cause damage to your hair/scalp. Thanks for sharing these tips. I have a question. If one is experiencing thinning in the front of their hair, how should they handle it (especially if they have fine hair)? Thanks in advance and take care! Please stay safe.

I dont even think it looks cute ( 😩). Looking at it even makes me tired because its sooo small 😂.

@ Haha! 😆😆 Yeah, that's another con of micro-braids. That's why I would NEVER get them in. By the way, can you please tell me how to treating thinning in the front of the hair? Thanks!

UniquelyAshante's Corner hey.. sorry for my late reply, just seeing this. I am still in the process of growing my own thin edges, so i do not think i am in the position to give advice now untill i see significant results. Although I think the Ayurvedic treatment i have been doing is kind of helping with the thickness there. And obviously it helps when u put less pressure there and keep them moist. 😉

I agree with you for not doing those five things anymore . And you must be going in the right direction for you because without those 5 things your hair is flourishing! For me, of all the things you mentioned, the only one that I do is to add essential oils to products that do not touch my scalp What you said makes sense. Since I haven't seen the results I expected I am going to do things differently from now on.

Yes... if something does not add any value to your hair.. there is no need to be holding on to it.

Are you saying "buttering" or "bugging" your hair? Also can you address the idea of using moisture/protein balanced conditioners for those with protein sensitivity?

I have never heard of "baggy" or "dusting" hair but it sounds like I'm not missing anything lol. You explained what baggy is but what is dusting??
@stephaniestewart9469
@stephaniestewart9469 3 жыл бұрын
Dusting is like a mini trim.
@ruuc1837
@ruuc1837 3 жыл бұрын
I think she means bagging, which is also called the greenhouse effect. You do this by moisturising hair then you put a plastic cap on to trap moisture. Dusting is trimming individual or a few strands of hair at a time when you see splits or single strand knots

So do you use combs or not? Once or twice a year then you talk about once a week in the shower!

at this point i use combs only if the style i am going for demands it. I dont use it anymore if i am ot doing a complicated hairstyle.

Greenhouse effect by Using moisturizers then placing bag on overnight

Basically after moisturizing your hair.. you cover it with a rubber bag for a few hours or overnight to increase the moisture effect.
