I have a new 22 Tacoma sr access cab 2.7 4wd , I knew what I was buying they are sluggish and I am ok with it, reliability is why I bought this setup perfect for me. The stuff you mentioned, they are luxury problems, in other words they are problems people would love to have, I enjoy your videos, Enjoy that truck, and try not to let those things bug you life is to short.

Tacoma's are notorious for the sluggish start and the gear hunting. I would look into the CVC tune, it's highly recommended and it does get you 1-2 mpg better fuel economy.

Informative and entertaining video. After 50 years of owning Chevys I kicked them and GM to the curb. In December 2022 I bought a gently used, low mileage 2022 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4x4. So far I love it! Folks like you have shown some great mods and easy mods and I have done some of them and more are on the wish list. About the "dislike" things: I agree with you in that for the price Toyota might do better. The electronics in my 2014 Chevy SS, 2016 Sonic, and 2019 Equinox were all much better, especially the infotainment screen/interface, which did not show the warnings except about once a month. The engine did not shut off when opening the door. I like using Android Auto for the maps and a USB drive for thousands of hours of music, but with only one USB data port I have to chose. All the Chevys had at least two. However, is all that electronic felgercarb really needed? Nah, kinda picking nits. Overall I love my Taco and have no regrets about kicking GM out of my stable.

Yep. Valid points , but a few corrections… No, you don’t have to pay an extra monthly fee after your Remote Connect trial expires for the remote start. The keyfob operation remains available at no charge. The app control will cost money, yes. Also. You dont have to keep the button pressed down as long as shown in this video ... After your 3rd press, you can release the button as soon as you see the parking lights flash, and it will continue on to remote start itself . Still not the fastest, but it does save a little time vs continuing to hold the button. Sadly all Toyota factory remote starts shut down when a door is opened . As far as the steering wheel dynamic lines while in reverse, I do have that on my new Tacoma. I believe its a feature that comes with the 360* cameras. I can turn the lines on or off thru the menu. Also to your point, the 360 resolution is crap as well. Especially for a 2022.

the start up screens do seem to take forever, but I hardly use the stock screens. I typically have my phone plugged in and use car play. Also Ive had my tacoma over a year and don't have any changes coming from Toyota for the remote start. I believe that is meant for the app.

I would run it to shut off after remote start. Some got their F150 stolen when they remote started it and someone got it and took off. Not sure why it turning off is that big a deal since I thought the purpose of remote start was mostly to warm up the vehicle and by the time you get in the truck it should already be warmed up, or close. I guess the engine wear is a thing if you remote start a lot. The key fob, I could are less if mine is like it is since my Lexus is about the same. The rest of the things you mentioned I agree. The radio is not very good. The gear hunting has come down some for me after about 300 miles I put on mine but it still is not a great smooth transition.

On your last comment on the sluggish part of the Tacoma. Maybe Toyota is in Kahoots with Chevy so people will trade in there Tacoma for a Chevy and the Chevy owner will want to trade in his Chevy for a Tacoma. Therefore you lose out on the trade in value and they make out like Bandits. All vehicle manufacturing companies seem to be trying to get more money out of you after you've made your purchase and are making payments to a bank. I've decided to do all of my own maintenance in my new 22 Tacoma SR5 truck and change the oil every 5000 miles instead of the 10,000 mile oil change that Toyota recommends. Also , I'm going to do my first oil change at 1000 miles and then every 5000 and instead of using synthetic oil. I'm gonna use conventional motor oil. I might even use 5w20 instead of the 0w20 that Toyota recommends. How do you like that Toyota. I don't need someone thinking for me. I'll give you an example. I have a 6 Tacoma standard cab 4 cylinder 5 speed manual with 243,000 miles and no major repairs yet. And I run it hard and change the oil every 5000 miles and Toyota called me in to get something fixed a recall. A spiral cable. They said that it's very important. And I ignored them. Then they sent me another letter and said my floor mat might get tangled up with the gas pedal and I ignored it. Keep your vehicle out of the dealership. I had great luck by doing my own oil changes and regular maintenance and repairs and I still have that truck. 2006 Tacoma 4 cylinder engine 2.7. Runs Great. Like new. Same clutch. Same A/C. Same fuel injectors. Same fuel pump. A few things needed fixing. But nothing major. The Moral of my story is. Never take your vehicle to the dealer. Fix it yourself if you can or use a trusted mechanic

I'm waiting form my 22 to be delivered, but I agree that these are annoyances. I'm trying to take it with a grain of salt because I know that after owning more than 20 vehicles (including Mercedes and BMW) that every one of them have stupid design issues. My 2019 Mini pisses me off for about 15 of these types of things including pinching the back of my arm when the auto door locks engage. In support of your point the thing that increases my expectation is the price tag. At 47K MSRP I expect a bit more in the way of how these features preform.

Hello the last tacoma I had was a 98 it was a good truck but it did lack the power needed to get going it did have the larger 4 cylinder and it was a 4 wheel drive but when I started using high test man what a difference you will always get people telling you don't buy high test you don't need it what it does is it let's the timing advance more than with regular and that gives you more power off the line nothing dramatic but you could feel it my daughter had a Hyundai suv same thing couldn't get out of its own way high test brought that one to life as well gets better mileage as well because you don't have to floor it to get going this may just help you yes it cost about 3 bucks more to fill but it's worth it.

The things I hate or dislike (I have the 2.7L 4 cylinder..and yes I like the engine) 1) The rear wheel wells don't protect the underside of the vehicle, including the spare tire and the underside of the fenders....terrible open design that is not functional and not attractive. 2) No drivers seat height adjustment. The V6 SR5 models have the power seat, but my SR5 4 cylinder does not. Even my son's Corolla has a seat height adjustment. 3) No garage opener. Not even a place on the ceiling to mount a garage remote. Even my 2004 Ford had a specific place on the ceiling to keep the remote. 4) Very poor quality of the exterior wheel flairs. Looks like it was spray painted with a paint can, and they don't fit well. 5) Overly aggressive transmission that up-shifts too early. 6) Poor quality of the seats. 7) Somewhat of a lesser truck than my prior 2004 Ford Sport Trac.

Everyone needs to realize that Mike Sweers is a ex Chrysler engineer. The Toyota truck division is being ran by him. The Japanese don’t care about the America Truck division anymore. The quality of their trucks are garbage anymore. They got rid of the 4.0 liter motor and now the cost of ownership is much higher. The 3.5 is not really a 3.5 its a 3.4. The tundra now has a twin turbo 3.5 same engine as the Tacoma just ramming air through a 3.4 and adding a hybrid to make up for the 3.5 which won’t even make it to 100000 without a turbo replacement or major engine repair. They already have problems with them and many Tundras are sitting at deaership while the owners cry themselves to sleep at night wondering why they trusted the Toyota name. Sell your truck before 80000 or you’ll being sitting at the auto shop for ridiculous repairs. The object is to get you to trade it in and keep you coming back.

Other than reliability, it beats the Tacoma in every category. And since it’s been out it’s been pretty damn reliable, but in time will really tell. Once I added the pedal commander it made a world of difference but I cant blame toyota why fix something that isn’t broke…this engine has been in tacomas forever and they are so reliable for that reason i dont complain and easily added on the pedal commander, problem solved

@@gumbeelee21 can’t complain about Toyotas record of reliability. I do worry about them being made in Mexico now. I’ve heard of a few more issues than they use to have.
