My #1 (and by far): the wipers cannot be pulled away from the windshield like a normal car just by hands. I'm in Canada: it's frustrating when you have to remove snow or ice! I also dislike the lack of sideskirt (and the N spoiler). i30N have them: why can't we? But I love my manual transmission, my red seatbelts and my panoramic roof... and everything else of that car!

Put the wipers in the service position by holding the wiper stalk up for about 3 seconds after the car is powered off (either ACC or turning the engine off). This lets you put the wiper up off the window.

@@JustinKelly I know it's the only way. I love to start the car and let the interior warm up while I remove the snow. It's now impossible unless I pre-position the wipers when I come home. Which I don't because I don't think about it. I'll have to learn, I guess!

Tbh I’ve always driven it in manual mode and forgot what it’s like to drive it in any other way. One thing that randomly happens is if I decide to drive to about 4k rpms in first or second and let off the throttle and slam on the gas, the computer cuts the power as if I was revving the car at a high rpm in neutral. It’s kinda embarrassing if you’re doing a roll race

Living in Canada (apart from being happy I had the red seatbelts and heating steeringwheel as standard, didnt know you guys did not), I can tell you that this car does indeed run cold as heck. I had overheating problems with my previous car and can ensure you this is not something I fear experiencing with this one haha! It's been two years since my purchase and I agree with everything you have mentionned. I'm also happy to know I'm not the only one that hates the 39F alert. I look down at my dashboard everytime even though I live in a place where it's below 39 8-9 months a year. Out of your top 5, I would put amphasis on your top 1 as well, the DCT DOES jerk a lot during sudden acceleration at low speed, and sometimes revs too fast for too long before shifting up when accelerating at medium/high speed, therefore I almost always leave it on Sport mode and will most of the time switch to paddles to ensure proper shifting. This is even more true at low temperature, which you guessed it, I experience a lot. Another thing I would have put on the list, or maybe as an honorable mention is that the automatic on/off headlights take waaaay too long to turn on when entering a tunnel or driving under an overpass, and will take the same amount of time to turn off. I know there is a setting for that, but even with the delay off, it takes forever. Honorable mention #2, although this is simply not a spec with any version of this car, I would have liked a manual handbreak rather than the electric parking break. Sliding in the snow with a DCT is painful, and even more so when you cannot lock the wheels at will. Incredible channel Justin, I'm taking notes for when I'm finally ready to void some warranties and break the ol' piggy bank for some mods (been having dreams about your i30 N wing lately haha)

Can relate to almost all of this with my 2018 ES. I found that an aftermarket BOV and tune made the DCT less jerky. I might try an aftermarket EBCS since I hear that helps too. Another honorable mention for me would be lack of lumbar support on the seat - can get a little uncomfortable if you're driving more than 2 hours.

I own a 2020 EGT N-Line. One of my major complaints is the interior design. The infotainment screen is positioned where I have to lean forward and stretch further than I should to access it. I also agree with you 100% about the DCT transmission. I do really like the i30 N spoiler you have though. Nice touch!

I totally agree with your take on the DCT and stock tires. My DCT slips and acts weird every morning until it shifts a dozen times and warms up. Those Hankook tires are trash. 5:56, probably the radiator is too efficient and blocking part of the radiator would fix the issue for the winter months. I remember something along the lines of the Focus RS having the same issue, and Ford's fix was to fashion a rubber plate over part of the fins.

I am a i30 1.6t owner in Korea. What annoys me the most is that the radar system does not work periodically. The rear side alarm system was stuck for a while and then fixed itself. Hyundai says that this issue is common and there is no way to fix it, just wait and it will fix. And a few days ago, the cruise function and the forward collision prevention function did not work. A warning light comes on every time I turn on the engine, but Hyundai tells me to be patient as it will fix itself if I just wait!!

My number 1 dislike is when crushing often when I step hard on the throttle the engine revs high and nothing happens for a second, just very little power. Then all of a sudden it kicks in and goes. It's like a one or 2 second delay. Not sure if it's a ecu, turbo, or dct problem. When I first installed my pierburg wastegate valve, it seemed to go away, but just yesterday it was doing it again...

I have a '19 N-Line w/ tech package, and I couldn't agree more with your dislikes. I live in Southern California, where it doesn't ever get super cold, and I still have issues with my engine taking FOREVER to warm up, and then when I'm coasting down hills on colder days I have noticed that the temps will drop on me. I figured it was an issue with the thermostat, but haven't taken my car to the dealer yet, sucks to hear that the thermostat replacement didn't fix it for you. I ditched the Hankook tires at ~3,000 miles and installed some Michelin PS4S's in the factory size, and it totally transformed the car. Sooo much more traction from a stop, it hardly ever spins the tires anymore, and lots more grip in the corners as well. I highly recommend those tires. One dislike that I'd like to add is that you can't fully turn off traction control or stability control. Even if you hold down the button for 10 seconds and turn both off, it will still interfere, mostly just when you're trying to accelerate around a turn and the tires try to slip. I've found that if you only turn off traction control and leave stability control on, it actually interferes less, which makes no sense. Another dislike of mine is the transmission auto-upshifts at redline, even in manual mode. If you have it in manual mode, it should let you bang off the rev limiter if you want.

I have a 2019 manual, purchased in July 2020. The cold weather performance is pretty awful. No boost, super soft throttle, generally seems very unhappy. I have a very short commute and have started letting the car idle for ~5 minutes in the morning. Helps, but is wasteful and a hassle (no remote start). Stick shifts came with Michelin summer tires which are amazing in warmer, drier conditions. Winter tires (I recommend smaller, steel wheels, too) are an absolute must for the colder months. The overall tune of the car seems wonky. Throttle response and performance are very inconsistent and the variable boost turbo seems hesitant to give full boost unless you flat foot it. Holding gears and rolling into the throttle doesn't get you into the powerband because the turbo isn't building boost at partial throttle, regardless of RPM. My biggest complaint has to be fuel economy. Around town it's not great but that's understandable. At 60-65 on two lane roads it's really good. Like 35MPG+. But 75MPH on the interstate absolutely tanks it. 20 mile trip with the cruise set at 75 regularly nets me ~26MPG. That's about the same as the 10 year old Subaru I had before. And that thing was bigger, heavier, AWD, had ancient tech even when new and had 115k miles on it. The N-Line isn't a bad car, and it can be a lot of fun, but it's definitely not a homerun, either. (I'm also pissed about the no red seat belts in the states)
@JustinKelly
@JustinKelly 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the DCT and that 7th gear helps that 70mph+ MPG because I was seeing around 33-34mpg on the way back from Minnesota. I agree that the tune is very odd at times and its mainly in cold weather below 40 degrees or so. Yes the PS4 should have been an option across the board on these cars but I understand why they don't put them on all because buyers often are not aware they need to switch tires out (Seen on the G70 owner group). @@JustinKelly I guess you can complain about it, but it’s replaceable. Factory tires aren’t always good. That’s usually common. If it was really that big of a deal you could have struck a better deal on the car because of the tires and save some money for the bother.

@JustinKelly 3 жыл бұрын
@@Chambers-ie8ie No dealer is going to give you a better deal on a new car because you don't like the tires. If you don't agree that is fine but ask anyone who has had the tires fail on them and they would argue the same thing I do. You say factory tires are bad yet Hyundai puts Michelin PS4 (arguably same of the best summer tires out there) on manual variants and some of the worst Hankook's on DCT cars. Have a good day.
@Chambers-ie8ie
@Chambers-ie8ie 3 жыл бұрын
@@JustinKelly if the tires are defected and you are more than willing to buy you can work a good 400 bucks out of them guaranteed. Lots of dealers won’t just do it just because you don’t like them but if there’s an actual reason like because of a defect then it is possible. The part about the 1.6T not heating up fast, and losing temp with the blower motor on is an issue on alot of 4cyl cars, esp the tiny ones with a turbo. I just got my GTS a few weeks back, traded from an Mk7 GLi and was super bummed to see that this car has the heating issue as well. On my Mk7, even at 2.0ltr it would take 15 minutes+ to get a qtr of the way heated up, and if I drove for less than 10 mins after that and used the blower motor it would drop at stops and stuff. Honestly tho the GTS seems to heat up quicker but it's still slow as hell at doing so and super annoying. But unfortunately it just seems to be an issue with small 4cyl turbo engines across the board. Our 2012 Malibu LTZ with the 3.6V6 heats up within minutes lol and my last Hyundai, a 2006 Sonata V6 was the same way. There needs to be less open space and better insulation in the bay of these tiny engines.
@JustinKelly
@JustinKelly 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't doubt it is common but this is by far the worst I have experienced. My 1.8 Elantra was better and the few GM products I have experience with are too. Even the 1.3l Turbo from GM does ok.
@_dmfd
@_dmfd 3 жыл бұрын
@@JustinKelly yea I agree, our 3.6 from GM heats up within minutes albeit it's double the displacement of the 1.6T I really think it has something to do with how well the engine bays are insulated and how much dead space they're surrounded by in the engine bay. With the Mk7, in the summer that engine would get so hot that touching the prop rod would give you an actual burn if the car had been running for a while. They also burn so much oil it's insane. VW claimed that 1qt per 1,000 miles was normal operation using the 508 spec 0w20. That stuff is water thin. But then in the winter, esp last month with that deep freeze, it needed almost 30 minutes of heating up to be able to use the heat immediately. Do these GTs run pretty hot as well in the summer?

Got 2019 Elantra GT N line 6-speed.. Comes with Michelin pilot sport 4S, you have to buy all new wheels and tires. Driving these in the winter, you will die.. And yes the unlock button in the middle of the car is annoying.
@JustinKelly
@JustinKelly 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I am aware they come with Pilot Sport 4 tires (Not the 4S). I believe dedicated winter tires should be something that is more of a norm than it is. In some places its law but in many parts of the US it isnt. If people knew just how good they drive in snow/ice/cold compared to all season then people may have a change of mind. I would rather have a quality summer tire instead because I will always buy winter tires for whatever car I own. Summer tires are dangerous in freezing temps and driving them can damage them.

I have a 2020 N-Line and was hoping someone in here could help out. I live in California where it never really gets below 40, but what I have noticed with mine is that if the engine isn't fully warmed up and say I'm getting onto an on-ramp and need to accelerate rather quickly, I feel the turbo spool and then shutter. Then it feels like the engine is struggling and there is no turbo spool. The RPMs rise super slow even when I give it more throttle. I might have to take it into the dealership, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue here. It's a brand new car with 2,700 miles on it, I feel like I shouldn't be having engine problems. Maybe an ECU issue?

Have the DCT? I drive mine in manual mode most time to prevent what you experience otherwise auto mode sometimes shifts wierd unless I mash full throttle from a stop.

@@merc393 Yea I have the DCT. You’ve experienced the same thing? Does maybe driving it in Sport mode help as well? I’m trying to figure out what is actually causing this to happen. Is it a transmission problem or an ecu problem?
@merc393
@merc393 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheAznpr0 Yes I mostly leave sport mode for less sluggish throttle feel compared to normal. If I understand your senario sometimes the odd gear changes in auto doesn't give the power you want according to how much throttle you give. I just use manual because the DCT sometimes doesn't read my mind correctly. Or maybe your senario is different?
@TheAznpr0
@TheAznpr0 3 жыл бұрын
@@merc393 It sounds weird to explain. I can literally feel it shutter or almost like drop a gear and then it goes into like a lull and there is no turbo spool and the engine feels really sluggish until I turn it off and back on. Super weird to explain and I'm sure it doesn't make a lot of sense, but it stays in this like sluggish state even if I come to a complete stop, throw the car in park and back into drive, turn sport mode on. It's super confusing, that's why I'm thinking I have to take it to the dealership and have them check if its throwing an error code. I shouldn't have to always drive it in sport or manual mode. It goes into a state where it feels like it makes no power.

How are people getting this for 20k?
@JustinKelly
@JustinKelly 3 жыл бұрын
The 2019 model year cars at one point had $2,500 cash off from Hyundai so when combined with dealer discounts and conditional incentives it was pretty easy to get one for $20k at the end of the model year. I am interested to see if Hyundai will increase the 2020 discounts any further or continue to offer $1500 off until the inventory runs out. I am very happy with the deal I got.

This is one reason why I am pretty much done with economy cars. Yes they are a bargain but at the end of the day, you have to modify so much that it's better to just pay the extra for a more premium car. I drove the Elantra Sport sedan not too long ago and it just felt really cheap an plasticky on the inside. I wish they offered something in the middle where they provided a little more sound dampening and a bit of a heavier steering feel like Mazdas
@JustinKelly
@JustinKelly 3 жыл бұрын
You should have looked into the GT N Line instead. The interior, when compared to the current Veloster and outgoing Elantra Sport was by far the best. It isn't mind blowingly better but it uses more soft touch materials rather than hard plastic everywhere. I think Hyundai in some ways does offer a middle ground but you are going to have to go into the next class of car which is the Sonata and then you'll be in a mid trim level which I wouldnt want (Even if it has just as many or more options) because I always like some sportiness. I think the Sonata N Line is a great value which is right around $30k after all discounts but that is still WAY more than I paid for my GT N Line and at that point I would be steered into one of the compact N cars (Elantra N) for the driving dynamics. It's definitely a tough battle to find one that is nice all around anymore...

And things that you didn't notice or didn't bother you on the test drive that are going to pop up after long-term ownership.
