Not only to modify but to maintain, the stock parts are way too expensive, in the US you have great OEM parts (IPD for example) but in EU it's not that easy. I don't get it how could it be corroded, because i have a bit older S60 and my friends have S60s and V70s and none of them has any rust. Paint chipping is a problem, yes, the roof trim dropped the paint in the early S60, after a 2005 facelift it's fixed, and the overall painting is better after 2005. My leather seats are in the same condition, the leather is not too bad (or not the worst), but the stitching is weak. The turning radius is the worst, like a truck... It's a pain in the ass to turn in my garage from my verry narrow street... the joke that is my neighbor with a Mercedes G can turn in like a charm, but i have to reverse once :D This car feels the best on motorway, on long journeys it's amazing and comfortable. My S60 is Nautic Blue Pearl and i love it. We need more 5 Cyl enginges, it's sad that only Audi has now and it's also counted too... M3 for fun, trackdays etc. V70 for traveling and daily :) It's a nice combo, well done.

Very surprised to hear you not like the quality. I had a 2000 S60 T5 for 10 years and the overall build quality was incredible. I would poke fun at my colleagues with BMW since their cars were either the same age or newer and were falling apart. The leather on the seats was very durable and I had zero rust issues. Oh well, maybe I was luckier, I don't know. My car wasn't parked out on the street either, so I don't know if you park it outside but that may contribute. Also, I had the 2.3l non-R version of the engine, with "only" 250hp (where I live, having a 2-litre diesel is fancy, so my T5 was king of the road), but it was pretty much bullet-proof in terms of reliability. I sold it for good money with nearly 200,000 miles on it and I still see the new owner drive around in it every day since. Edit: Oh yes, the turning radius is terrible.

I’m looking at a 2000 v70r in a couple days. I’m so happy to find your videos, so helpful on many fronts. I really love this car already and can understand more about it with your help. I was a little nervous clicking on this video, wanting to sustain my smitten bias, but glad I did! You kept it real. Which can be hard when people leave jerk comments, but I commend you! Now I feel informed and even considering the notion of getting into cars. Not as a sport thing, but as an I love my car and want to take super good care of it thing. I feel the same way about my horses and having vet experience or being a mom and a human on earth. Anyway thank you and if there’s any other heads up while looking I’m open for suggestion, again it’s $2,900 for a 2000 v70r. Also, I was just in spring lake heights visiting family, drove of course, and it is super beautiful there!

My daily driver has a focus ST which is very fun to drive quite a bit of power. I purchased a 2007 wagon V 70 R Cheap off eBay about three years ago with a automatic with the Typical problems with the automatics. I’ve put over 20,000 miles on the automatic transmission after doing a couple things. My plans were to converted over to a manual which I’m going to do next couple months just trying to gather all the parts. Like axles why are they so hard to find? I feel that these cars will be like the BMW M6 in the 80s prices will continue going up. Only thing I complain about the turning radius that’s about it. And the smell from the famous heater core I love that smell. All my Volvo always had that special odor😜

I have a V 70 XC built in 5/2000, I had to replace the strut tower bearings, and a passenger door speaker. The parts car I bought the replacement speaker from was built maybe a year later, and the Ford ownership of Volvo already showed. The 8 inch speaker was instead a 6 inch AC-Delco with an adapter frame to fit the Volvo door. I imagine anything plastic was re-done by Ford in typical Ford quality, mine is also not jacked-up with lots of black fender trim like the later Cross-Countries. One thing the newer coupe at the wrecker has is a twin-turbo, I kind of wish I had that, but overall I like my car a lot. I bought a mint condition 1990 Civic 4- door, red with black interior. I will mod the Honda and enjoy the Volvo as-is, ( well, I did put rims and tires on the V-70 ), and I pulled the motor from my Honda yesterday, upon inspection all it needed was a head gasket, but at 145,000 miles the Honda looks good like it was owned by someone who cleaned it obsessively and maintained it like a non-mechanic, which was appealing as it is 100% stock down to 13 inch steel wheels, and it came with a spare engine that I am going to now install, then take my time building the low miles original engine before shoving it back in. Yes, it's going to waste a bit of time, but I need two cars all the time, I live on an island and the ferry is cheaper if I walk on. So the Volvo I drive in the big world because it's safe, the Honda is a motorcycle with a roof and a heater as far as I care.

Ecu doesn't know that you just put a big turbo into the engine to it wont take full advantage of the extra air coming into the intake side. You would get a Tune to set up the ECU to use the extra air coming into the engine to ACTUALLY get use of the turbo. If upgrading your engine, a tune is 9/10 needed to get a real performance gain out of your mods. Bult-ons n no tune is like a waffle with no syrup. Everything's done n set up, but bland asf without that syrup

1- Modifying these is fun. The first 70 hp or so is cheapish, after that, it gets super expensive really quick. 2- The open deck engine design is a bummer, but fixable, so it doesn't really matter as much as some people say. 3- I think the quality is great - if you think the rust is bad, you should buy a Toyota. Now those are crap. None of my P2s are rusting, and aside from the odd rattle, are pretty solid. 4- Agreed - turning radius sucks. It is much better on non-Rs and P1s with skinnier tires. V70R all day - they are so unique and different. 5- I do wish Volvo still made 5 cylinders and manual transmissions. I do think their current lineup is great, and is far higher quality, better looking, and more solid and comfy than the old stuff, but they have kind of left the enthusiast behind. At least they still make wagons (and damn good looking ones at that). Nobody else really does anymore in the US, and it's a shame.

All the manufacturers today are intentionally Installing faulty parts on vehicles so as to keep the consumer in that state of mind to continue spending. My issue is why charge so much for vehicles that are not worth the price

Some people have cylinder wall issues then you get people on swedespeed who make 550+ whp and have no issues haha . Per the window sticker on mine it was 49k So stupidly finicky. I'm hoping mine will continue to hold up.

Usually weird things like this come down to factory where car was built, personal experiance I have a a couple Volvo’s built in Sweden absolutely most robust reliable things ever. I have a 300,000 miles on my daily driver XC70 and I beat the hell out of it and never give info me issues but have an XC60 as well that was built in Belgium and it’s sadly been expensive to maintain and it’s my GF’s daily car and she is far more gentle driver but still has its quirks that are expensive. like good example, part of rear suspension on both sides is rusting out in critical areas.. it’s a newer model than my XC70 and less miles... like less than 1/3 mileage and has odd quality issues. Also issue with the XC60’s T6 engine where it’s almost perfect but it somehow looses a quart of oil to..who knows where.. Volvo inspected it and found no leaks, not burning it and verified the oddity where after oil change with correct volume the dipstick and computer both agree it’s perfect and stays that way for a while then 200-500 miles later quart goes missing and adding a quart back and it stays exactly where it should for rest of oil interval. I have same engine on my XC70 and honestly never been an issue. I heard other people mention similar theories too and I know that it’s a pride thing for them in Sweden so probably do everything best they can vs other plant locations they probably a bit more sloppy and “that’ll do” for everything.

I already have an xc70 so I'd take the other one. I hate that you can't find used parts.....I hate how the turn radius is....I hate how the instrument panel is..I hate how there is not much back seat leg room and how you have no space where the 3rd row seats are..Phew that was hard because I love my car. Lol.

The expensive parts are cheep in Sweden so google some Swedens sites or get in contact with a Swed who can help you find the upgrade parts for you. That car in Sweden is a very regular car and is very popular in tuning for the car people over here so it is a shitload of aftermarket gadget for tuning and performance made for it. About the quality of the car i am right with you it´s a shame for the brand but VAG cars are worse rust holes right in the middle of a door is very common. For the coilovers i suggest you buy a D2 kit instead of the JW it is a better choice for real. Late comment on this so you have allready byed the coilover i guess. Sorry for bad English i am a Swed so hehe

I still own a 2000 v70 , its by far the best car i own, however i still have a a 1995 chevrolet astro i bought when i was 17 brand new, and a 2004 pilot.....i only drive my v70 on the weekends, i love the car to death, but it is the most expensive car to maintain....from vacum leaks, to maf filter problems, i regulate it to weekend get out errand cars....my pilot and astro is used for everyday drivers....but by far my volvo is the most comfortable car i ever sat in...

2.5l and 2.4l engines both have 83mm bore. They are both as "bad", they "only" take 80hp per cylinder RELIABLY. Only 2.0l and 2.3l enginer are bored to 81mm, they can take much more power. So if youre thinking to modify ur volvo to BMW M3 killer, buy block with 81mm bore. And its still smart move to shim that block, it only costs like 20bucks. 2.3l or T5 blocks have been rising in value, but 2.0l is same block only with shorter stroke. Those 2.0l "italianT5" blocks are somehow much cheaper. And usually they have lower miles.

I had a really nice 1998 945 FTT German spec but someone stole it this past March. I needed a replacement immediately so I couldn't wait around to find another one like it. There are tons of used V70s so I had to settle for one. I prefer rear wheel drive but I'm gradually getting used to the V70.
