@@taunokekkonen5733 Well not really. The Volvo P1800 was designed by the very Swedish Pelle Petterson who trained under Pietro Frua, It's still his design although you can totally see the influence from Ghia and Frua cars from the period. When it comes to the Volvo 780 Bertone I'm gonna point out that Jan Wilsgaard was collaborating with Bertone to reach the final design.

I'd have to say SAAB is one of the most underrated cars around. I have 2, a 2005 9-3 2.0T ARC with a mild tune pushing 275 whp, almost the same as the turbo V6 aero model in the line up. My 2009 9-3 is an auto, has zero turbo lag and even stock, it's still fast and most importantly, both have been 100% reliable. But I really do like the inline 5 the Volvo offers. Can't deny that.

I've had a S60R and all I can say, it's absolutely fools safe at any conditions - sunny, rain, snow, ice. All the time you've got the feeling that Newton's physics doesn't work anymore, the car just goes where you want it to go. Should I say, what happens when you drive M3 over limits on ice? You are so lucky that it's still in one piece.. I've worked on more then a few volvos with that engine and they are absolute crap. We had in the shop recently with 44,000 miles and the turbo was already leaking oil and it handled like a 50 year old Cadillac and the interior quality was piss poor, it was incredibly uncomfortable and turned every pebble in the road into a bolder. It's absolutely unforgivable that volvo charges the same amount for there volvo xc70 as a fully loaded Audi a4.. I own an A4 and it's better in EVERYWAY.

+EJK k I disagree, it's extremely comfortable, not on par with my Audi A6, but close, build quality is excellent, the sound of the turbo 5 cylinder is amazing, but I do agree the handling is poor. Cargo space is relatively poor as well. My Audi A6 (2001) has 322,000 kilometres and it's just now needing ball joints, and control arms. Other than that, the engine and trans still runs brand new. Love it. My Audi is also covered in airbags which I love. Lol.

And if you read the magazine from when they did this, the Haldex was out - so it was front wheel drive only (screeching the tires on launch is a dead giveaway) - get the awd on, and cut about 4 more seconds off it - and if you run it in the rain, nearly the same time, so it would still beat the Ferrari in that game... just sayin' from 200,000 miles of S60R ownership...

And thats why you get the prior year A4 or S4 B5 or RS4 B5. (the B6 S4 doesn't have any flaws so to say, the chain guides issue is on all FSI V8s, A6 C5 and the Facelift models of the A8 D3 2007-2010). The T5 has so many issues, the stupid girdle plate that hold the cams and acts as a valve cover and uses a sealant and that you literally roll on with a paint roller from Volvo, and it doesn't stop crap. The accessory belt has a tendency to get misaligned during heavy loads, and gets sucked into the cam belt behind the crank pully, bending all the valves. The rear heater hoses break from age, and the car overheats, the radio connection for all the modules in the car is fiber optic, and as it ages from vibrations it cracks and is guaranteed to happen on all of them, especially the C70 (Waste many hours testing all the lines to find the break and pull the interior apart to replace the line). The interior of them also don't age well at all unless kept in a garage its whole life. The NVH from the mounting system for the trans and engine is horrendous and feels like a diesel truck, the transmission are built like glass, and limit the torque in 1st and 2nd gear, they will start to slip around 100k to 150k miles with heavy use. The front and rear both suffer from extreme tire wear due to incorrect factory camber that isn't adjustable without buying adjustable arms (this applies to almost all Volvos of the era). I hate working on them.

Used volvos are great in america because they lose their value quickly. You can pick up a $40k+ car for less than $5k with a little over 100k mi on them. Just make sure you know how to turn a wrench because the dealer will take you to the cleaners. (..The dealer wanted almost a thousand dollars to do a heater core.. I did it myself in less than 30 mins for about a hundred bucks).

The dealerships will absolutely clean you out. What you said is right though. They depreciate like nothing else, but are great for specs and are incredibly safe, in case you get in an accident while testing out your new Euro mods you've inevitably swapped in.

@@alexroshko3239 get the right non R you can convert it into a proper R model.. lot of them share the same hardware so make sure same engine, suspension and AWD and for most part the rest is software and minor wrenching.. my friend bought a V70 non R but has 2.5L T5 engine, Four-C chassis and BLIS and few extras as well for $2000 in really good shape just a family car was used for long time by older couple was downsizing everything including their car so wasn't beat either and was cared for... another $1500 in hardware like brakes, pegasus rims he had refinished, spoiler, front bumper and exhaust and few other things plus some software and within a week it was a full on R.. he since sleeved the engine and turned everything up and pushes like 450HP...

I’m looking to buy my first car and I’m thinking about a S60. When I was younger my dad had a 02 S60 and I just remember it being a really good car. My parents offered to give me their old 08 Highlander with over 250k miles and a broken AC system that will cost over $2000 to fix. (I live in Virginia so an AC is basically essential in the summer) I’m leaning towards the Volvo though. just because who knows how many problems the Highlander will have. Most of the used ones I found are around 5k and have less that 100,000 miles on them.

I have one as well (mine is an '02). Surprisingly good for a FWD luxury car. It's very fun to drive, and it's always great to see the surprised looks on the faces of muscle car drivers when you stay right by their side at a set of lights. Despite the low ride height, I've found the suspension to be quite nice, and it even handles dirt and gravel roads quite well. The only thing I don't care for is the automatic gearbox. It shifts at the wrong times and randomly decides it wants to downshift into third gear while doing 70 mph on the motorway, so I always have it in sport. Other than that, great car!

Its always funny to see the expressions on the faces of drivers of "fast" cars such as the honda s2000, mazdaspeed 3, 2 and even 3 valve mustang gt's, f body camaros and firebirds, scion frs, and even some bmw's. Priceless

These S60Rs don't have a transfer case. Which is why they're so susceptible to the failure. My AWD is out due to a faulty dem. I'm assuming nobody knew of the issue when the car was tested because it was too new.

Love my Volvo s60! She still looks good and gets me to work everyday safely. (2002 with 170k Miles) EVEN THOUGH, the dash array only comes on when it rains (no gas gauge, no MPH, no Odometer, sucks). EVEN THOUGH, the turn radius is wacky and always rubs my tires. EVEN THOUGH, no matter how fast I go, people seem to ALWAYS get right up my ass like I'm a Granny. EVEN THOUGH, she's been leaking oil somewhere for the last year and I've been getting crazy smoke out the exhaust under heavy load since then, like when going up hills/ quick acceleration. (Sorry if you behind me.. Admittedly I've been neglecting her.) But there is something about this beautiful work horse that just doesn't stop. She is insanely reliable. She is very comfortable. She absolutely LOVES the cold and the snow with some classical music. (I'm not kidding you!) This is why once you own a Volvo, you buy more. They are built solid, very safe, and just run.

My mother just got a '04 V70R 6 speed manual, at 330 HP it's twice that of our '61 Ferrari. We absolutely love it. After putting over 1 million miles on her previous two wagons, '76 265 M46 & '85 745 M46 she ended up with an '01 V70 T5 M65. It was zippy but a total lemon and needed a new engine after 100,000 miles and kicked the bucket after another 70,000 miles. You can fill the back full of Costco shopping and still have fun speeding up tight mountain roads in Advanced. My '82 245 Turbo M46 restoration project isn't holding my attention like it was before now we've got this.

TheTopHatScoot not exactly true.. the poles did crack enigma but that was the early version before the war. The poles did help with cracking the more sophisticated war time device alongside turing so they do deserve more credit. But remember that the poles had no chance to break the war version without turing and vice versa. The real story is of course unknown but i know for sure that the poles had no ability or resources to build the machine that broke the lorenz cipher because if they did, it would be them that would have kept computers a secret or exploited it for themselves or sold the technology to the usa as part of war reparations as the uk did.
