5 Things I Hate About The 2017 Lexus IS 200t

I'm more in love with the car than against it. I'm a Lexus fan and this car is just another reason to be more in love with the brand. But, just like every car out there, it is not perfect. From the month I've had this car I've managed to find 5 things I don't like about it, and here they are.

1 - Turbo Lag: Any turbo engine car has turbo lag. You should not complain about it when you bought this car. 2 - Blue tooth: you should check with your dealership, maybe it's your phone. 3 - Instrument cluster: It should stay in the center by default, that is just their design. Again, you should know about this already when you bought the car 4 - The Engine Star/Stop button location: Are you that fucking lazy to reach out your hand? 5 - The Cup holder location: I guess you check your left and then turn to grab the drink immediately all the time (this is stupid)

I’ve done some research and it seems like IPhone’s Bluetooth capabilities are the issue when it comes to connecting to a Lexus. Apple has been using different versions of Bluetooth in the sense it’s almost like them “upgrading” them. Can’t remember the KZbinr but I do remember hearing something like that as well when I was figuring out whether to get an Apple Watch or not.

The cup holders are definitely annoying, even for passengers. The turbo lag feels no different from it's closest competition. BMW 328i and Mercedes C300.

As a worker at Lexus, (not anymore) the design team ensure when the car is off or on display it looks symmetrical or almost perfect. Haha the lfa model has been worked on for quite some years before it was released from things to drivers comfort and functionality to the satisfying interior sound of the car. So unfortunately the cluster moves back for "OCD" purposes and to make it look nice :)

Good observations about the cupholder placement and placement of the push button start. Hopefully Lexus will listen to owners' complaints and remedy this in the near future

First world problems. I like to use the door water bottle holders better that the center arm rest. Turbo lag is about the only thing I can agree with.

Just connect your phone using USB for music. It's better sound quality and you get album artwork information.

I have a 14 IS and at the beginning I had the Bluetooth issue. After I deleted the connection information on both the phone and the car and allowed it to connect to both phone and media the problem didn't happen anymore. Not sure if that is something that you have done yet but it worked for me. 😃Nice car by the way!!

+Wayne Polite Jr. I've tried that already and no difference. It's mostly after the starts that I have that issue, after about 5 mins it doesn't lose Bluetooth signal but the XM radio issues still happen don't know why. Thanks! they are a beauty 😁

I'm not sure why people are giving you so much crap. Turbo lag is a thing otherwise the term would have never been coined but not all turbos are made equal. Some have more lag than others. So it's understandable to not like how much lag the 200t has. Secondly, the car is pleasing to the eye but obviously poorly designed in terms of ergonomics/convince and that's a valid reason to find certain things annoying to live with on a daily basis.

My dude, I just bought a 2017 myself and THE FUCKING CUPHOLDERS. I am with you on this one. Lexus was wild for that choice. The side holders in the door are nice, but really not big enough for anything besides a water bottle

I think cup holder location is more annoying for passenger side, no where to put arm to rest even if there is no drink. Try to rest it on center console and elbow is in the hole instead

I got a K&N filter and muffler deleted. The turbo lag seem to go away. And driving in Manual help too. My AVG MPG is 20 -25, highway is 30-40. Just how you drive.

Dealership replaced me turbocharge under power train warranty. I totally agree with cup holders, they did place them differently in the RC... have you noticed??? Why would I want the ECO-Normal-Sport mode instead of cup holder there... non sense

Hey Jhonny, just wondering if you have ever heard any ticking/tapping noise from the driver side sear belt adjuster area. It's like you are tapping a metal surface with your nail. Nice car by the way. I was really struggling between this one and the 2017 ES350, ended up getting a ES just because I need more space over the performance.

Didn't you test drive this car before you bought it? I knew that car was going to a slow car when I saw 0-60 7.5 seconds. Lexus can do better then that. BMW 328/30i, Mercedes C300, and Audi A4 get to 60 in 5.5 seconds, and they have the same size of engines with almost the same horsepower and torque.

+Stutta T i did test drive both 200t and 350 and for some reason it felt quicker to me. Also I've managed to hit 0-60 in less then what Lexus says.

+sweetangel34 i never said it was quicker, I said felt quicker. And if you compare them side by side you'll be able to tell that the 350 will launch quicker due to the natural aspirated while the 200t will start rolling slowly until the turbo hits boost. I test drove them back to back.

+Stutta T yes I know. If the turbo lag wasn't so significant at the start it would be a bit faster. I've managed to do around 6.1 with traction control off and on Sport mode. It's definitely faster than what lexus claims.

Things you explained are very miner. Turbo lag is very common The starter button should be higher to my opinion its out of the way and easy to see. Cup holder its never easy to place anywhere because off the ecstatic design of the center tunnel, however its good if they are away from your electric stuff. Because the drinks do spills and if they do its a mess. You are wright about the gauge cluster it should stay where you left it, but think about it once you left it there you will never know the think moves back. Bluetooth I am sure there is some problem with your mobile because this is not good.

+john smith i understand your point of view. And the meaning reason I don't like the instrument cluster moving back is that it'll wear out the mechanics quicker and I'm sure it won't be cheap to fix. And he Bluetooth I fixed the issue.

Not 100% sure. Mine after it was totaled was valued at $26k but it was a 2017 with 72k miles. But to be clear, their first offer was about $21k but I told them everything the car did for me and cause I grew a KZbin channel with it, so they gave me a little more for it.
