I understand when you say the festivals are not celebrated. I guess it is the way Chinese celebrate. Most of the festivals in China are to celebrate with the families and friends through reunion meals. That is why people go back to their hometown if I understand it correctly. Which is different from many other countries, parades and parties are more commonly seen during festival for people to go out and celebrate.

To clarify a little bit, you do not always go to jail if you fight. When you hurt someone so badly that they are diagnosed by a hospital with “轻伤”or even more serious, you will face criminal charges, but if you hurt someone not that severely and they are diagnosed only with “轻微伤”, then you will only face administrative penalty which is basically getting fined, apologize and leave a record of administrative penalty. But more commonly they will reach a reconciliation with the help of police officers and agree to deal the issue by themselves, in this case both side will only need to do what they have agreed and signed on the paper of reconciliation without getting any official punishments or leaving any records from the police. This is more commonly seen because no one wants to leave a record of having got in troubles like this, which will affect their life when they are trying to find a good job or apply for a visa. And the poster was just using a humorous way to tell people not to fight, like an advertisement 😂it’s not what actually happens all the time.

There were times when fireworks was allowed in Shanghai and it was crazy in Chinese New Year eve and now it only exists in our memories. And to avoid crowd for safety reason, the firework celebration for holidays like National Day was cancelled for several years. I remember there was parade during Shanghai Tourism Festival but it's gone for the same reason. I would say there were way more celebrations to see on streets years ago but it's quiet now. Not necessarily bad for local people though. And as someone in the comment said, most of the traditional festivals are for family reunion, such as Chinese New Year, Mid-autumn festival, Qingming fesitval, Chongyang festival...most Chinese people are not party people🤣
@flysmask2 жыл бұрын
About festival celebration, most traditional festivals are geared toward family time, so people will not go outside to celebrate they will celebrate within their homes. Also a lot of festivals are region specific, I think one of the ones you will enjoy will be the water festival in Xishuangbannan, it's a day where everyone throws water at everyone, including to police etc. But it's not celebrated in Shanghai unless you go to a special event. There are popular celebrations for some festivals, but you probably will need to make a friend (local or just knows a lot) who can invite you to the right group, they'll let you know where you need to go to see the party and celebrations. lol. China/Shanghai is too big, if you are in one end while the other end is celebrating and no one told you about it, you will not know about it. Also covid has limited major celebration gatherings in recent years as well.

I'd looove to try that Xishuangbannan festival, in my country we have a similar celebration during carnival

@@shanghaiandi768 I guess the reason why you’re not seeing festival celebrations, is because you’re in Shanghai lol. In many Chinese countryside, festival celebrations and rituals can be huge, especially in spring festival. But a lot of them have been cancelled due to the pandemic 😢😢

@@shanghaiandi768 That was the case like ten years ago in Beijing, fireworks everywhere during Chinese new year, lots of temple festivals too. I think there is a ban on fireworks now, coz uh, lots of fire accidents. Now you can only do fireworks out of the city. I think even in 2017 we still had fire crackers within 2nd circle, I remember going back to my grandparents' house on the 2nd and even in the morning you would hear what sounded like bombs going off. All fire crackers. I heard a lot of stories of people getting maimed or injured by random fire-crackers while walking/riding bikes. That was some wild times. Even the fizzy beverage warehouse was burnt down by wild fireworks. That's like just 20 meters from where I lived. Oh yeah, I don't know about Shanghai, but in Beijing during new year, tomb sweeping day and ghost month, be careful where you walk, lots on people drawing circles on the road to burn paper money. Try not to step on those, I've heard enough recounts of possessions or just a period of misfortune after accidentally stepping on those. Most times it's fine, but honestly, even if you don't believe in those sort of things, it's still kinda icky and disrespectful.
