1. Mirrorless (vs DSLR) - not just size, but seeing real preview instead of optical viewfinder. 3. Faster burst rate than DSLR due to no mirror 4. Useful firmware updates - e.g. improved focus 5. Great video quality: 10-bit 400mbit flog/hlg - usually reserved for high end 6. Fujifilm good at innovating, obsession/focus with being the best aps-c and medium format

Agree with all. I bought a XT3 in 2021 switched from Nikon. Such a joy using it. I wish the invest in some user research to improve the user interface and mobile app.

Started photography on a canon m50. While looking to upgrade to an eos R or RP the helpful staff at the camera store showed me Fuji. The biggest reason I chose an xt3 is the Fuji as a company. Consisten firmware upgrades on your camera to keep it up to date rather than making you purchase a new camera to reap the upgrades *cough* Canon *cough*. They didn't. hold back anything on this camera software wise (4k60p no crop for example) because they aren't worried about cannibalizing sales on higher end camera. Great business model, great company, and amazing cameras.

These days by the time you get out of the store with your brand new camera, a newer model is already sitting on the shelf. Packed with features you most likely don't need. I'm happy with my X-T3 and probably will be in the next 5-6 years.

I tried to use my late Father’s Pentax K5iiS with its PASM dial and traditional optical viewfinder at the weekend. I know for a fact that this is an excellent DSLR, very well regarded even today and some of the pictures he has taken with it were really lovely. However, I normally use an XT-1 and comparatively, I found the DSLR was unbelievably unwieldy and unfriendly to use, precisely because of what you described. Constant chimping. Never knowing what I was going to be getting until I looked at the badly underexposed or blurred image on the back. Fiddle with settings. Get something better or worse. Fiddle more. Repeat. Ten or more pictures later, a decent result might have come out. However, my XT-1 just shows you in the EVF what it is you’re getting as you make the shot and the manual dials are completely intuitive to changing the setting you need to to get the shot right quickly. Blurred? Pin the shutter speed and let ISO remain in A. Under-exposing? Ramp the ISO and set the shutter speed to A. Bad depth of field? Leave both shutter and ISO in A and crank your aperture. Or just let the camera do all the work (like a P mode) and set them all to A. The crucial difference is seeing what you’re getting as it happens, with regards to exposure and depth of field, so you know what difference your inputs are having as you make them. With a PASM dial and optical viewfinder, you can’t tell how it’s going half as quickly, even if you know what the trouble is. I’ll never get rid of my XT-1. I’m a poor photographer, yet I can take good photos with it. That’s how good the Fuji system is compared to PASMs and optical viewfinders.

Excellent, informative video! Thanks, Jon. I also have a Fuji XT3 wiht5 lenses, including a 1.4 teleconverter and a 70-300 zoom. I’ve been using cameras for over 50 years, and used to shoot full frame Nikon DSLR’s but the weight was a real issue, especially as I do a lot of hiking where weight is an issue, and Events, where it’s easy to get sore shoulders carrying full frame gear. I went back to school at age 60 to do Professional Photography for two years full time. Interesting how they emphasized digital manipulation, not composition or how to get great Portraits. Out Instructor had never done professional Portrait, only food photos. Interesting how Nikon has so few digital crop sensor lenses (only 2?), but Fuji has , what 27 sense to choose from?. Way to go Fuji, for Features, software upgrades, quality, video capability, fast frames er second, and film simulation modes. It’s just like using a small DSLR (I used Pentax ME Supers for years), only WAY better. I like that you can see the principal seeings wiht dials, and that Fuji still makes aperture rings on their lenses, (unlike Nikon or Canon), AND that they have TWO card slots (come on Nikon!). I switched to Fuji mirrorless 6 years ago (started with Fuji XT2), and really love using my Fuji XT3! Great video, keep up the good work! Jamie in British Columbia, Canada.

Far as I know mate I believe Sony have made the sensors for Fujifilm since from the X Trans iii onwards. They apply their own processing with their own processors that apply the Fujifilm colour science to the RAW data coming from the sensor. I'll stand corrected though. This is why the X Trans 1 and 2 are quite sought after because the colours are different and were made by Fujifilm. Canon don't even make their own sensors anymore. They use Sony sensors also.
@dungbeetlemovies
@dungbeetlemovies 3 жыл бұрын
Fuji also give you the same current top spec sensor across the X range as well (except for their lower priced Bayer sensor cameras). So, although the X-T, X-Pro, X-E, X-S and X-100 range may have different features, they all share the same image quality from the same X-Trans sensor.

@@JonSparkmanIt does seem pretty decent actually. A lot better than the GoPro 9 it seems. So my only thing is that i really want to get into landscape photography as well so i want a camera i can use for both. Thinking of going with the Fuji X-T3 with 18-55 kit lens. I appreciate your response, in any case.
@paulmoss4199
@paulmoss4199 3 жыл бұрын
Completely agree with you about the XT3. However I am in two minds about the kit lens, mainly because of it's variable aperture. With both the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm, with them not having a clickable marked aperture ring I find that I accidently nudge the aperture ring round without realising. Do you ever have this problem with the 18-55?
@JonSparkman
@JonSparkman 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I actually always set my camera to disable the aperture ring and set it to a control wheel on the camera, like canon cameras. I show you how to set that up in my wedding photography settings video.

Nice video! A thing I struggle with sometimes is fear of missing out. I never had a DSLR and since “every” food photographer I see uses full frame (this isn’t true of course) it makes me think...what if I had a FF. But I chose the X-T3 because apart from great image quality the video features were something I wanted/needed. Stuff that wasn’t offered in FF at the time and now if they do they are way more expensive.
