It's the best looking new car on the market outside of the superecar world, much nicer than gen 1
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree! Toyota/subaru did a really good job of making this "entry-level" sports car feel incredibly premium and look even more so. This doesn't come across in video but I can assure you that all the interior plastic bits that might not look the most high quality are still premium feeling. Before I got this car I thought that the plastic bezel around the infotainment display looked really cheap, but once I got in it and started messing around with the screen and all the buttons I realized that while it is plastic, they didn't cheap out so much that it's poor quality. It still feels really good to touch and very well put together. Like I talked about in the video the exterior design is also absolutely mint, with a lot of time having been put into making the various vents actually be functional as compared to the supra. In any case the lines and angles of this car look both aggressive and refined as compared to a stock 1st gen, and I couldn't be more satisfied with how it looks from the factory.

@relatablerides
@relatablerides Жыл бұрын
Honestly, when you throw it in sport mode and manually shift it isn't that bad of a transmission! I'm well aware of the fact that this isn't the best auto you can get around this price point, it's def not as bad as people make it out to be. I've explained in another comment why I chose to get the auto, but it boils down to me wanting an auto as a daily because of ease of driving in traffic (and generally), adaptive cruise control, and the more "grand touring" attributes of it. I do want to have the oil pan dropped, when I take it in to toyota I'll have them drop the oil pan and check for RTV. As far as a manual though, I do want to get a miata as a project car in a manual. That'll be purely for fun driving on the weekends, so I'm not stuck with a manual when I don't have the desire to drive one. I appreciate your comment though!

For me, I'm gonna be using this car as my daily driver through winter and traffic and I'm genuinely happy with the auto. It's responsive enough that I don't feel like the car is lackluster or missing something and it's got a personality to it when you throw it into sport track mode where it'll aggressively downshift if you're braking heavily. Even when you're not driving spiritedly having the adaptive cruise control has been super helpful in traffic even for the short time I've had this thing.

If I get a manual I need to add the app control afterward?Is just a phone app or I have to pay for a specific serves?
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Жыл бұрын
so the app control comes standard on the car, when you buy the vehicle (at least here in the US) you download the app, put in your vehicle VIN number, and the car gets partially registered on the app. From there you go in the car itself and press the SOS button to get connected with a Toyota Rep, tell them you're activating your remote services and they'll validate your information and activate the rest of your app features. For the manual model, you won't get the remote start, that's only applicable to the automatic transmission (and of course, you won't get custom climate settings, those features are coupled with remote start). You'll still be able to remotely lock and unlock the car, sound the horn and the hazard lights, guest driver settings, etc. Additionally, the app control is free for the first year if you're purchasing the vehicle new then it's either $80 per year or $8 per month, whichever you prefer.

@@actuallyfeng334 yeah so unfortunately on the manual models you don't get remote start from factory on the app, that's limited to the automatic models, as I mentioned in the video. Honestly for me personally I use the remote start to get the engine warmed up before I get in the car, just so I don't need to wait the extra 30s to a minute for it to get up to temp.

No one wanted the auto, I managed to get it for 1k over. Other dealers in my area were selling base trim autos for 5k over no flexibility, I feel like I got a bargain! I actually spoke to my local subaru dealership as well about the BRZ, and they said they could get me a custom order for msrp. Subaru's been really good about keeping things fair for their customers, and I was really tempted to go with them. For me it came down to my preference of the GR86 front fascia over the BRZ, and the neptune blue color.

@@relatableridesGreetings from Belgium. Yours is a fine review. Last week, I managed to get a GR86 with auto in black colour at €1,000 below MSRP (because I was also buying a second Toyota for my wife that same day). If I had the choice, I would have liked it in red. Also, it will be delivered next September, thus seven months to wait … the most difficult point to accept. The funny side of this, I have only seen the GR86 on the net !

Got my gr86 premium 6mt at msrp. I had to wait 7 months for it but I didn't pay a single dollar in markup or forced accessories. The same dealer even sold a GR Corolla at msrp. Well worth the 2 hour drive I did to get there. Other ones around me are asking $5-7k over for 6mt.

No unfortunately toyota dealerships in my area are being real sticklers about the price. This model was sitting on their lot for a bit with a 5k markup, so I went in and haggled with them for quite a while and managed to snag it at 1k over because no one wanted the auto. Absolutely love the car but if you're not getting it close to MSRP it's not worth it, especially because the 4 cylinder turbo supra is very close in price to this car.

It’s gonna be a snug fit for sure. I’m 5’11 and i’m just barely comfortable with the seat all the way back and all the way down. You could probably make it work if you don’t mind a smaller cabin, but definitely try it out before buying. Getting inside isn’t really a problem, you get the movement down and it’s pretty easy to fall in. Of course given the height of the car you do have to climb out, but again you get used to it

So u know how to drive a manual and chose an automatic? Why? Unless u have a PDK, isn't a manual transmission the whole point of a sports car, especially a lightweight low powered canyon carver as the 86?
@relatablerides
@relatablerides Жыл бұрын
I know that the automatic isn't the most desirable transmission for this car, and especially the torque converter auto that can appropriately be called a slushbox that comes on these models. I got the auto specifically because this is my only car and my daily, and >90% of my time is gonna be spent driving to and from classes at my uni and work. The little bit of extra enjoyment I can get out of the car once in a blue moon when I actually go for a spirited drive isn't worth the hassle and inconvenience of a manual in my daily life, especially during rush hour traffic. I can't count how many times I've just switched on the adaptive cruise control during heavy traffic and let the car do the driving for me. It's an incredibly nice luxury to have, and I don't regret my decision. I do hopefully plan on getting an NA miata as a project car, and yes that will be a manual. For a weekend car that I can tinker around with and only drive for pleasure and enjoyment, manual is absolutely the way to go. I appreciate the inquiry though, I'm always willing to give my honest opinion whenever the time is right. I hope you understand and don't hate me for it 😅

@relatablerides
@relatablerides Жыл бұрын
6 seconds used to be quick once upon a time. These days you can easily get access to cars that cost the same/maybe less than this car and will give you faster 0-60 times. Take for example the ecoboost mustang, that does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. Camaro is just about the same at 5.5ish. Keep in mind you can get as quick as 6 seconds in the stick shift based on how well you can shift, vs the aforementioned cars get those speeds consistently with the auto.

All honesty while the numbers on paper don't scream super fast car, actually getting in the driver's seat and going through the gears it _feels_ like it's quick. A benefit to not having so much power is that you do really get to use all of it on the streets without massively breaking the law, and if you get the car in a more subtle color it's not a huge cop magnet either.

Honestly even on the highways, this car isn't bad at all. The only complaint is top end power. It's really not there once you get going on the highway. Passing is doable, but it's not quite effortless. Beyond that, ride quality is pretty good, and the interior is comfortable enough given this class of vehicle.
