I started driving in 1980 - 6 yrs later AMC stopped CJ production.(I am an old guy.) When the YJ came out (like others) I hated them called them "Yuppie Jeeps" . . . blah, blah. I've owned old school CJ3B, CJ5, J10s, etc. (BTW you ain't' seen rust till you've owned a 70s-80s CJ) Sep 2017 I bought a near mint 94 YJ & I love it ~ I take back all the insults I made about YJs. It's the best Jeep I've owned. But you hit the nail on the head. Pre-1995 are still all Jeep & have all the old Jeep issues. So for those wanting "mall crawler comfort" don't get a pre-95 Jeep.

I have a 1991 Jeep Wrangler Renegade, 4.0, 5 speed, A/C hardtop. 220,000 miles still runs like a top. I have NO rust anywhere. I have to open a window to close the doors because it so sealed. And because the Jeep is air and water tight I can go to Lake Tahoe in the winter and the heater is very comfortable. I did replace my cowl seal because I notice water under the passengers side rug, at first I thought it was the heater core, so I bypassed the the heater core hoses and found I still had the leak so that's when I replaced my cowl seal, now air and water tight. I have no cracks on my dash pad, dash, glove box and console, still like new. I do agree that the console cup holders are to shallow. I just replaced my Rear Differential Trac-Loc: Dana 35, 355 gears with a 912A569 Eaton Detroit Truetrac Differential, just for convenience, (NO MORE FREQUENT GEAR OIL CHANGES NO MORE FRICTION DISCS AND NO MORE ADDITIVES) not because the original locker was bad, it was like new when I removed it. There is 2 things I wish it had, cruise control and more interior room, like the LJ. Thanks for your review.

I had the same issue with the heating. It would literally just blow cold air in sub freezing Temps. I bought some cheapo 1000w ebay Chinese car heater, wired it up just to see if it would do anything and given how small the yj is, it actually warmed it up and kept it warm on the highway. The only problem is the Alternator struggles while idling if I have my brights, leds, and heater on at the same time but I just slapped on a capacitor bank and boom! That thing is golden. So $30 for the heater and $12 for the cap bank, I definitely recommend it!

If it's a manual the reverse grind is actually because the reverse gear is not synced And you have to wait for the transmission to stop spinning before you can try and put it reverse. This is completely normal and if you try it I think you'll find that it works. And the heaters don't really start working until you start moving

Love my '95 YJ! Has been very reliable for many years. 4.0 engine is one of the best ever (never dies). Leaks can be minimized with good weather striping, but it's hard to stop all leaks, especially if you have a soft top. The heater has never been a problem for me (I just wear a heavy jacket if it's cold). Remember, CJs and Wranglers were never made for comfort. They are made to go where most other vehicles can't go. Try checking the vent on the right side of your jeep. If it doesn't close properly you will get a massive cold air leak making it hard for the heater to keep up. so for the heat and the leaking, I've had my 89 YJ for about 3 months(ish) now, 150k miles. And I've never had any leaking through my top, nor through the doors or through the huge rust hole I have under the pedals on the driver side, I have a soft top and get the heater not "keeping up at high speeds" but that's just the lack of ability to totally seal the soft tops. mine leaks air, but still keeps it warm inside (20 degree weather in MN). I daily mine and I just think that most of the problems is something up with their soft tops... I could be wrong but those don't happen to me. Otherwise great video dude, keep on keepin on

The 86/87 Original Wrangler has zero issue with the heater. No A/C on the other hand sucks. We installed one that works like a champ. The 87 4.2 throttle body sucks, swapping it with a Weber carburetor resolved that issue. The 87 front seats suck, swapping out with Bestop front seats solved that. Completely agree with the leaks and carpet. We used Dynomax liner to prevent rust in the interior.

If your driveing the g's of taken off let the water run down the door channel and would not get the floor wet. But setting it would hold water some how on that rubber.

Buy a wire cup brush for an angle grinder ; if you don't have an angle grinder buy a cheap Harbor Freight one; scrub as much rust off as possible. Then get some rust converter and spray it down; this will convert the rust to iron oxide and stop it from spreading. If you don't have any rust that needs metal replaced then just brush on the POR-15 and you just saved your frame ! Let the rust converter dry completely ; it will turn the rust black ; this is normal and will help the paint stick then paint.

@@wesleysmith995 I believe the salt chemicals they use now a days is also more corrosive than the road salt they used to use ~30 years ago. I have a 95 YJ with the 2.5 that I use for my DD with the occasional mud hole trip or trail. Was there a power loss before the new rear end or did the new rear end compensate for that?
@OctaneSlain5 жыл бұрын
@@mcooler4 We both went back with the same stock ratio. So power remained the same. You can choose to regear both axles to make up power with a lower ratio. Your main loss in power will definitely come from the larger tires

I always brag on m YJ heater, it’s toasty.

What size tires are you running and did you add any lift. I am trying to decide whether to go with 33's or 35's. 35s will have to have a lift

go with the 35's you wont have to lift it and your stock gears will work just fine !!!

You got a low ass thermoatat then. Crank that thing up to a 220°F and you'll be fine. Also, you might be trying to drive it too fast. A lot of Wrangler guys try and drive them over 45mph but Jeeps ain't meant to go fast. As Popcorn Sutton said "the slower you run it the better product your likker come out" but in this case, the slower you run it the better heat your Jeep come out.

Just picked up a 90yj. My 3rd and 4th gear grind pretty bad. Do you think I should rebuild it or buy a used one and throw it in?

Mortgage your house, lol, I did an engine swap , bought a donor for 500 , 4.0l and rebuilt it to brand new , stroked it to 4.6l , cost about 3500 but wanted a reliable engine for trips and adventure, suggest driving it for a while to figure what you want, everybody likes different t stuff, welcome to the life . Cheers

@@lisamitchell7933 shit, in this economy BlackRock will just buy my house for 20% over asking lmao. Sounds like you've got a pretty nifty jeep there

It was a bit of a heap when I bought it. 4in lift that I replaced after 3 years, new clutch . I worked on the mechanical and suspension stuff first. Made reliable and safe , it's my summer ride here in Ontario Canada. . Needs body and paint , everything else is rock solid , bikini top ,no doors , tunes blasting. Lots of fun

My 1993 YJ will heats up super fast. If you are having trouble with heat, try flushing your system. There are plenty of videos on KZbin for that.

I just got a 95 YJ wrangler with 33 inch tires and 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. 6 inch lift. This thing is slow as heck. What do you recommend for gears? Also is it easy to upgrade the gears? Thanks Update: I traded my YJ wrangler for another YJ Sahara 4.0 with TJ swapped frame. This wrangler is exactly what I wanted.
