I am an acrylic pouring addict, without a doubt. Playing with colors, testing out new fluid art techniques, brands, sizes & collaborating with other abstract fluid artists; is the best. Since I started this journey I feel more balanced in my work and passion. If you see these fluid painting tutorials and feel like, this is something for me: go for it! The fun thing about fluid painting is, that even though you do exactly the same, the outcome is different everytime. Also everybody has a different view of composition, colorcombinations and the way of doing a technique, what makes and keeps it so interesting to watch. Thank you for watching and following me in my modern art journey!

Hey Renske, where do you buy the canvas? And what quality checks do you use to buy the canvas? (And just between us Dutchies: Are canvasses of Hornbach or Bauhaus okay? Because they tend to be a bit cheaper than the artstore canvasses)

Enjoyed this video. I have a tendency to over blow my Dutch pour and Inslso have tried to gently blow mine as you. Do but I cannot seem to get it right. I may need my paint thinner, it blows with a dryer but I jus seem to don’t know when to stop but have learned from you I can scrape off partsI don’t like. Love all your videos.

I wish I had seen this a couple years ago before I got started. So thank you. One tip for beginners is don’t start out learning on the most expensive canvases. Practice and learn consistency or you could run out of money before you get to the really good art pieces.

In art school I painted on water color paper. Tear or cut it into smaller pieces, tape to a drawing board or onto the wall. You can do this with oils as well. Just gesso the paper first.

So true. Lots of frustration with cheap artist supplies. You get what you pay for. Cheap paint and you have problems or have to add extra additives to prevent issues with loss of binders, pigments and everything else. As usual Rinske your advice is so spot on.

These tips would have been great to know 3 years ago. Thanks for sharing them now so that new acrylic pourers don’t give up. I teach fluid art and I know if some people don’t get good results they don’t always want to continue. My advice is to stick with it a bit longer. An important aspect of pouring is that it comes down to 3 critical items - consistency, consistency and consistency. If you’re trying a new style of painting and it’s not working, it’s likely because the paints are different or wrong consistencies. Write down what you use when you’re testing it. Keep trying by varying only one thing at a time. The base coat is as important as the other colours but sometimes it needs to be thinner - depending on the style of painting - in order to allow the paint to tilt over the base coat. To test your paints put a spoonful of each on a canvas to check the flow rate. If one flows down more quickly than the rest, it’s too thin and needs more paint it flows down too slowly then it’s too thin and needs more water added to the paint mix.

Just a tip I learned about using pouring medium. For example, let's say you're using floetrol. Pour your floetrol in your cop first, before you pour in the paint. This way the paint doesn't get stuck in the grooves and bottom of the cup. You may notice some vids where artists use shallow, wide mouthed cups that are smooth on the inside. That's why. I learned that after wasting a LOT of paint. Thanks Rinske! 😁

Thank you, Rinske! You have helped to make my fluid art journey fun, playful and forgiving when it doesn’t go well. A tip I would share with a new artist is that it is so important to make sure your canvass is level. My very first piece was beautiful but I failed to level it and I was horrified when I checked it later and it ran off and my design was lost. I scraped it and tried to recapture what I had originally created and it never panned out. But I learned a very valuable lesson.

Love this, Rinske. Thank you. I especially like your comments on how to respond when things don't go as planned. I think that's one of my favorite things about acrylic pouring. I used to work in live TV production. We had to think on our feet and "go with the flow" when equipment malfunctioned or something else went wrong. It's the same with acrylic pouring. Sometimes you just have to "go with the flow" (pun intended). ;-)

I love this video and all the rest of yours!😊 something that I wish I new when I started doing fluid art was how important the consistency of my paint was. Each color even within the same brand is so different in how much water needs to be added because some colors are more pigmented then others are. I wish I knew this in the beginning.

Rinske this video is fantastic. I would love to see more videos like this. When I first started pour painting I thought it be the same as when I paint a landscape, animals, floral design or similar pieces... I was so wrong lol. Sometimes I have a picture in my head that I want the pouring to go and the paint is like "nope, not today" so now when that happens I pour and let the paint tell me what it wants. With some tweaks here and there it usually comes out close to what's in my head or totally different.

Thank you so much for all the information you shared. That will help me immensely. I'm starting my acrylic painting journey and I was hearing some say to use craft paints and I didn't listen. I have been gathering little by little a stock of better quality paints. I felt it would be a waste as I was looking at many different beginning and established artists and the results I preferred were those who were using better quality of paints. I knew there were other creative projects I was going to do so it wouldn't be a total waste. Even so, I started to get scared that I spent a lot of money already and was getting discouraged.... however I have studied many many artists at many levels tons & tons of recipes and now I know I have it within me to experiment and create. Colors make me happy, inspire, calm me and taps into my soul. I'm setting up my living room as a studio and I will let the creativity flow. Thank you again. I will be watching all your videos, hitting all the like buttons and subscribing . Thank you for sharing 💜🪷🌺

Two years ago I was done with small paintings and decided to paint my wall, no idea what is was going to become, I was going into the flow of just doing into being.. The wall itself was all deep red, for years, so that stayed as base, I added purple and lilac and bright red and yellow.. It was not with an idea in mind, just do.. As far as I could, it was surprisingly fascinating for me, till I had to move home, so I couldn't finish sadly.. I saw a giant peacock at the right and a very big tree in the middle with lots of branches.. I didn't paint for two years now, but you inspire me to begin again

Rinske, I am just seeing this video for the first time. I cannot tell you how appreciative I am for you to share these valuable lessons. You are amazing in talent and spirit. My tip is never give up (as I did, hence the six months late in seeing this video) just because you can’t seem to get the right consistency, color combinations, or outcome. You have inspired me to try again, because in my heart, when I see the beauty of your paintings, I long to create some beauty too. Thank you for sharing!

Today is Monday.... I have been trying to pour since Feb 2021 and came to the conclusion last Friday that I was no good at this, lost all my gusto for pouring because nothing I did was beautiful in my opinion.... but today I think I will give it a go again after watching your uplifting video!!! Please make more informative videos like this for all us newbies that have such love for pouring but just can't get it right!!!

Number 3 is like giving yourself a present. When I pour I want a surprise and almost every time I am happy with a result because the paint gave it up! Otherwise pouring isn't fun or relaxing. I'm still learning pouring and this video is very helpful. Thank you Rinske.

Tip Nmber 5: complimentary colors, is the best advice I have gotten. I think I knew that without knowing why exactly. But, all of your advice is valuable, and I appreciate your generosity.

I'd love to see this video as an attachment to every pouring video by every artist online. It could be titled' before trying the following video you must watch this first'. I've lost count of sad and discouraged artists who've come to me wanting to give up because they keep making mud. I give them a hug and a color wheel and refer them to this video.

So absolutely right, Rinske, I plan the pour, the colours, an idea, then I pour, it turns out totally different, I'm not happy, about to scrape, then I think about waste, add another colour, and there I have a totally lovely, different pour.....

Thank you Rinske! I’ve only been pouring for a few months & learning about different paint consistencies for different types of pours has been a bit of a challenge! For instance, the consistency for Dutch pours is much thinner than consistencies for ring pours! Etc. The other thing was about the importance of levelling the canvass prior to starting a piece & that it needs to be left right there until it’s dry. There can be no guarantee that the surface will be level at a different location. This means that more room is needed in the action space so that inspiration can flow! xx
