Happy I found your channel! I'll be moving to Calgary next month as a permanent resident (I'm French) and I've been looking for up to date info on the city. I just hope it doesn't take me too long to be able to rent a place, seeing that I have no credit score/rental history in Canada, I've been reading most realtors tend to turn newcomers away... I also have no friends/no relatives there so it's nice to have friendly points of reference, even on KZbin!

Banks in Canada have a special program for newcomers, to establish their credit rating. Canada also does NOT use your credit rating for things like housing , like the USA does. ACtually, it violates the Credit Bureau's membership Code of Ethics. "Realtors" don't rent. They sell real estate. Alberta will want a full years' lease, and if you have any rental dispute you go to small claims court. Be prepared with both a hoodie/balaclava AND a bikini....for the same day.

South East, East, and North East of Calgary right through Edmonton and north, Tornadoes occur frequently, though most touch down and track through farmland, They do and have gone into populated areas causing damage, destruction and even death. Tornadoes in South Western Alberta are usually visible due to the lower surface moisture available, but about 45 miles east, southeast, and north east of Calgary, the Gulf of Mexico moisture begins where it pools from late may to mid August. Providing ample surface moisture for rain wrapped tornadoes to be more common. Night Time rain wrapped tornadoes are more common in Alberta and Saskatchewan than any other province due to the low level winds close to the surface.

Hello! This will totally depend on what you are trying to do and how long you plan on staying. If you are not planning on staying over 12 months, for rentals I would recommend looking at airbnb monthly stays or filtering for month to month leases on rentfaster. If longer than 12 months, rentfaster and facebook market place will show you the best options and I suggest looking on the 1st of the month because that is when most new rentals will come up. There are also some lease only buildings downtown, each of them will have a leasing agent you can get in touch with. I would also suggest checking out a few facebook groups if you are looking for a roommate or cheaper accomodation. Thanks for ur reply. I will be moving to settle in Calgary. To be honest, I will be looking for long term lease in a decent accommodation. So that I can get away of the hassle of moving houses again and again. So should I go for Airbnb first when I land and then look for accommodation while I am there or should I book an apartment before landing in Calgary?

@@bharatpassi6540 The airbnb route can be a bit pricey, but it is the best way to be able to find a long term place that you would like to stay. If you are alright going for a rental sight unseen you can go that route as well to save money, however, that can be risky and you might find yourself having to move again. Personally, if I were you I would rent out the airbnb on monthly stays for 1 month while aggressively looking for rentals, then extend the stay if you need to!

I spent a decade there before coming to Calgary. Some jobs pay better there (blue collar). Aside from that, Calgary is better in almost every way. Mountains are a huge plus lifestyle wise, better downtown, better highway system, much warmer winter, and cleaner.

Depends on the location, age, and size. For something decent downtown you would be looking at around 1400-2000/month

@@LordBagdanoff Calgary itself is a pretty safe city compared to larger Canadian cities like Vancouver and Toronto. There are parts of Calgary that have higher crime rates, such as some areas in the North east like Forrest Lawn and Marlborough. There is a lot of really safe neighbourhoods in the NW, SW and SE of Calgary. Downtown has a higher crime rate too, as any downtown location would, due to the population density and homelessness.

When I lived in Calgary over 30 years ago my soon to retire boss bought what he was certain would be his final car, a brand new 1990 Olds 98 Brougham. He planned to keep it in his garage all winter - he would only drive it once all the salt and sand had been cleared from the roads in spring. Within a month his prized possession was in the body shop. He said that while he was in church praying it wouldn’t hail … it hailed … the damage to his brand new 98 was substantial. U know it @SigKappel - “free golf balls from the lord above” are guaranteed in Calgary.

Beware of the service charges on your utility bills for the green & Blue bins...nobody wants them,. they don't use them. don't need them or never asked for them, yet they force you to pay for this service...most people & the elderly don't use them and go without proper food,clothing and prescription drugs because thay are forced to pay forthese unfair services.
