About the friends: In germany we have different "Levels" of friendship. The acquaintance: Somebody you know and meet from time to time. You like them, but don´t trust them deeply. The friend: Somebody you meet regularily in your free time or even some at work. You trust them. Good friend: Somebody you might call to pick you up, if you woke up in Paris, without any money, your underwear on your head, and no clue how you came here. Will come to pick you up, and laugh at you for quite some time, but won´t let you down. Best friend: Somebody who would bring a shovel and a plastic bag, if you´d have to get rid of a body. Won´t ask questions, just will help and never tell anybody.

Love this. We tend to misunderstand the importance of people in our lives. The word friend is loosely used nowadays but the way you put it hits the nail….

@@sindypetronella Thanks a lot :) that´s how most "older" (28+) germans see the topic of friendship. It comes with experience. As a kid or teen, everyone is a friend. But once we get older, we start to realize that the most reliable and loyal people are real friends, the rest is easily replaced by other people.

As a German, I would absolutely second what Michael wrote. To make matters even more complicated, we Germans also invented the concept of "Sie" and "du". "Sie" is a formal way to adress a person, "du" the informal way, often used among friends. HOWEVER, if the age gap or status gap is big enough, in my opinion it is not uncommon that you even adress some people of level acquaintance and friend still with the formal "Sie". Unless both people come to a formal agreement to use the "du". This can vary from region to region in Germany a bit (the north where I come from is generally a little more formal) and also depends on the age of people.

I can understand the du and Sie for example in South Africa if any elder person whether family or not u suppose to show respect in a way you they formal way Sie crazy right lol but thanks for the tip :)

@@TheMadSqu not to forget the "du" and "sie" in case of arguments...friends, even good friends who were on the "du" can change back to "sie" if the argument is harsh enough...

With the friendships you describe from South Africa, how deep are these friendships? What's the point of having 30 friends and if necessary go all but 5. Then you'd rather have 3 real friends and others are just nice acquaintances that you meet every now and then. Here is a key difference in the concept of friendship. It's important to find out if you have common interests, someone you can rely on when your friend is in need. Do you have common hobbies? Like cinema or theatre. You can find someone everywhere, whether it's a disco or a cinema, and sometimes just being curious and talking to someone. Very good friendships often develop from this. And again, it's not the number of friends that matters, it's the quality. And that's the art of finding out. You have a true friend for life when both are willing to be there for each other and at that durch Dick und Dünn .

@@sindypetronella Maybe my question was just too direct, I'm very sorry. It wasn't a criticism, it just shows a cultural difference. And I don't think that's a bad thing. It is very good for my country to learn something new here too, such as how to hold Smaltalk. By the way, there is still the word Kumpel in German, which comes from mining. A buddy originally referred to someone with whom you share your bread. It's not a friend yet, but friendships can develop from pals. I often have small conversations with strangers, whether it's the cashier at the supermarket checkout or I'm standing at the bus stop and waiting. On such occasions, just talk to someone. You will be surprised how people react. Some may be annoyed, but most of them have positive experiences and I make contacts. It is important to have patience. In diesem Sinne, wünsche ich dir einen guten Aufenthalt in Deutschland und lass dich durch das Wetter nicht runterziehen.

Hello, can you please elaborate more on Ausbildung and are you also doing it? If yes in which field ? Can one do it in English?
@sindypetronella2 жыл бұрын
hey , Ausbildung is also known as vocational training or apprenticeship, is a profession-related education that is leading you towards a certain job. Germany has more than 300 vocational occupations, and for each of these, you can find an Ausbildung program! Every program has different requirements, but it’s possible to find training with any educational background. I am planning to do one soon
