With thunder and lightning, I'd suggest you wash two towels and then sleep with them under the covers with you for a few nights. Then fold the towels and put them in the dog beds or "safety" caves. Your scent will provide them with much comfort, especially if you're away from home during the storm. You can refresh them every month or so. It's also smart to do this if you must fly with a dog in a crate. Your scent will soothe travel jitters.

You are doing an outstanding job of expressing your points of view regarding the places you are visiting. I love how you are culturally aware of the locals and behave as a guest in Mexico. I took a sabatical from work 2009-2013 and lived in Guatemala, San Cristobal de Las Casas, and Puerto Escondido. All were different and wonderful experiences. I am enjoying your videos and look forward to seeing you discover Mexico. Yes, even after living there for 4-5 years, I was only able to speak "market and restaurant" Spanish. I tried taking lessons, but I was so burned out, that my brain wasn't cooperating in learning conversational Spanish.

Our most recent trip (our third) was to the Xalapa area in late April. I was aware of the weather, but thought that being in the mountains would make a difference. I was badly mistaken. It was scorching hot. As to "the thing not on the list", there's just something about being there: the colors, the beauty everywhere, the gentleness of the culture. It's intoxicating.

The best thing to do to comfort a dog when they are scared, surprisingly it’s the opposite of what you would expect. You should do nothing especially not try and comfort them with soft sweet talk. That actually makes them more nervous. Best to do if you can, put on loud music and start dancing with your dogs. If they see you happy and not worried they will know there is no worries. Your dog will look up to you for validation of the mood and situation. It’s similar to when your toddler falls and scrapes his knees. Just stand him up and redirect his attention and get him back playing. This is good advice from professional trainers I have had great success with my two dogs. Love your videos.

That story of some Americans suing the owners of GABYS is 'horrific'!! Gosh I hope the suit was not successful. There is a similar story in either PV or Cancun. The Mariachis played along the beach in a certain stretch and the wealthy foreigners complained to the condo board and they were forced to leave the area. Foreigners want America in Mexico for less money. The thing is...there is alot of freedom in Mexico and foreigners just dont know it or they dont like it. They want it to be like it is in the USA...rules and regulations. Americans are bossy bullies and NOBODY LIKE THAT. Heart breaking for sure.

One thing foreigners must bear in mind is the noise levels: Mexicans play music at extreme volumes whether it’s a party or just while cleaning the house. In Europe we’re very conscious of noise pollution and it’s detrimental effect. The Mexicans equate loud music with being happy and joyous and are oblivious to the concept. That’s the biggest cultural clash I’ve encountered here.

I’ve fine there is a difference between stormy days in BC, Canada, and the kind in Mexico. Whenever the breeze is warm, it’s fine to be outside. Not at all the highlands of central Mexico are as chilly as Patzcuaro. I’m just a half hour away and even higher elevation, but less rain and more sun. Microclimates Be careful with the suggestions for CBD for your dog’s anxiety with the thunder. There’s evidence that it’s not healthy for dogs and I’ve personally known 2 pets who have suffered. Please DYOR. The dogs that are born here, the street dogs etc., they’re not afraid of the thunder. It’s the ones from away and the pure breeds. Not much you can do except be close and DON’T let them outside off leash, lest they run. Also, if your dog’s teeth are becoming not healthy, consider feeding a proper dog diet of meat only. The carnicerías in that area will give you free bones, and then I just buy the cheap cuts they’ll sell me. Way cheaper in the long run because your dog won’t have health issues. Kibble is 70% carbs. Dogs don’t eat carbs in the wild. There’s tons of info on this online. Tons of vets explaining the history of dog “fud. Sharing because I care about animals

Excellent video! I spent much of my career living and working overseas. I'd usually have a "honeymoon" period of about six months in a new city, where everything was wonderful and new. Then I'd settle in and get used to the customs and culture and it made for a rich life. Having a dog (one in my case) was an excellent introduction to every new place. I'd walk and walk her and quickly learn my way around. We'd make friends with neighborhood dogs and dog owners, and that made life lovely. I also had reverse culture shock on returning to the U.S. Silly story: in one non-English speaking country, I drew a map of the downtown to our offices to our homes. Signs were rare, so my hand-drawn map with physical landmarks was copied and used for years after I left. That's crazy!

Regarding your dogs. There's a product called thundershirt I think that's it's called thunder but I don't know if it's shirt or not but anyway it's like a sweater you put on your dog or cat, and it makes them feel secure it just applies a little pressure like they're wrapped up in something. You can even try putting a dog sweater on him, or even if that doesn't work or doesn't apply enough pressure you can put two dog sweaters on them. So glad you took your dogs with you. I'm thinking of moving to Mexico and I would not move without my cats so I would be bringing them with me.

My dog was horrified and shook while also trying to get into the tiniest spaces. I used rescue remedy in her moments of discomfort. There is a pheromone spray that may have been helpful. I give cbd (no thc, It's toxic to dogs) about an hour ahead of time. If you can find a thundercoat or make something with the same squeeze effect, I found it helpful for her as well. I turn the music up loud, sometimes maybe even 2 different sources of music or other sounds. During the worst storms I also sat on the floor in the corner, with a dog leaning in on either side of me. Good luck! My apologies if any of this is redundant. I just stumbled on your channel And have Begun to watch your enjoyable And informative videos.

I visited Guadalajara a week ago. While there I walked a lot. Twice, out of the blue, a person on the street shouted “gringo” at me. I’m 6’3, blue eyes and was wearing shorts (I didn’t see many men in shorts while in Guadalajara). Oddly, I’m Hispanic. My parents were Puerto Rican, I was born in Mexico. Go figure. I must walk like a gringo. I’ve lived in the US all my life.

Hola. :) I live in Guadalajara. They are happy, friendly, and love many things the Gringos have produced. Most prominently, the music!! 🎵🎵 I would think shouting "gringo" was more of a compliment than a put down. And yes, usually only the tourists wear shorts... Mexicans and Foreigners alike. I hope you have a wonderful visit!!

Hi I really enjoyed your video. I use a all natural drops that I buy from from my veterinarian. A few drops before a storm the dog will calm down and sometimes fall asleep. There are several varieties you can buy them at petsmart. They are very inexpensive.

Another great video. As my wife and I research retiring to Mexico we often find "paid consultants" or "transitional consultants" on KZbin. I'm sure you've seen them. Some have some great informative videos. I was wondering how did you prepare and research moving to Mexico before your exploratory trip?

I’ve loved Mexico for many years, and have been here on vacations. I watched a lot of KZbin videos and researched online about renting, safety, driving etc.. I had an exceptionally easy time with getting a temp residency visa, unless you count the four hour drive there and back to the consulate 😉

If you have a house built, be careful what archetict you use. I live in a fairly nice neighborhood on a hillside. A gringo friend of mine, had a house built in another part of the barrio. We have city sewage and drainage hookup here. And part of the deal for him was to connect to this system. He went back to the States for awhile leaving the architect to build the house. A few years later, the gringo discovered that there was some difficulty connecting to the sewer system which would need to cross other private property. So, the archetict put in a make shift septic system! Unbeknownst to the owner! Another very nice, expensive, large house was built on a property at the edge of the barrio. At the time, the sewer system had not caught up to the location. So, a legitimate septic system was put in. Except, I noticed it was on a property across the street. Seemed like a problem to me. So, I enquired of the HOA as to who owned that property and would it be a problem in the future. The HOA consulted the engineer who originally built the development and was assured there was no problem. Not too long after that, the real owner of the septic property decided to do construction work there. The septic system has been totally demolished and black water is now flowing into the small canyon next to the development! The person renting the property now, admitted it was not legal, but no one has ever come to check it out! It has been about 6 months!

Real estate agents in Mexico are not required to be licensed in most states. Be careful! When I bought my property, I had some advice. You need to acquire the services of a special lawyer called a Notario. These lawyers know the real estate laws and do much of the work that a licensed agent would do in the US. They give you official paperwork which gives you guarantees that the property is free and clear, for instance. The "Real Estate" agent for the seller advised me not to use a notario and save some money. No thanks, I went to a recommended notario and have had no problems!

And let’s be real. I live in Charlotte North Carolina. There is a huge Mexican community there like 26,000 Mexicans. They have carved out a section of the city where they have neighborhoods and businesses and all of that and I think it is great. They are wonderful people And hard workers and a pleasure to be around. However, in Mexico can scream at us go gringo but in the US if we yelled, go home Mexican, they would consider us wrong. That is hypocritical.

Thank you for your reviews of Mexico cities. I’m contemplating about moving there so these are very helpful. Are there a lot of dogs barking and roosters crowing in the towns you stay at? Also are all the businesses loud with music. That would really bother me. Have you considered other countries in South and Central America? Why limit yourself to Mexico?
@MoraMargaret
@MoraMargaret 2 ай бұрын
I'm listening to roosters crowing right now out in the country. There is noise, but it usually doesn't bother me. I did consider Uruguay and Costa Rica, but I needed to bring my big dogs and that meant driving. Also Mexico has a unique culture and great food! I've been to Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama and Brazil. I like Costa Rica but it's become too expensive.

Curious? What types of permissions did you get for your car, and do you have to renew them constantly? How do you work that out? Thanks.

I have a temporary residency visa and one of the benefits of that is that you can bring your foreign plated car for as long as you have a valid visa. You have to get a TIP (temp import permit) when you cross the border, and don't have to renew it until the visa is renewed. In my case, one year.
