Froyle is the best! Her laughter is so warm. Her talks are loaded with information and she is so encouraging. She goes over how to use a Gelli pad and how to clean them. She talks about how there are different types of gelli pads and the mediums they use. This is a great and easy to understand walk through if you are a beginner or a pro. To let go and play, see what papers & paints do.. And Froyle is SO much fun!!! ❤😂 plus she is very accomplished and an expert teacher.

This is just what I needed. A few years ago some of us crafty friends got together in the garage and we used gelli plates with acrylic paints, white cardstock and any leaves we could find. It was a blast even though most of my prints were not up to my standards. I did end up taking the best parts and turned them into cards (I mostly make cards or junk journals). So I did go out and buy a 5x7 gelli plate at my local Hobby Lobby. Had no idea what to look for in one so just purchased the size that would make prints I could use in my papercrafts. But it sat on my shelf for probably two years before I finally got up the nerve to make a mess and blunder through the process. Didn't know much but i used book pages, stencils and acrylic paint along some metalic paints. Omg, I am so hooked. I made prints until I was tired. I went back a few days later and just used printer paper, acrylic paint and baby powder. Now my gel plate sits on my craft table and I have started watching your videos. I just love watching your videos. Not only are they so full of valuable information but you have such great energy and enthusiasm and so encouraging. Your prints are amazing and I love your rich color choices. I will be watching more of your videos to continue this journey of gelli printing.❤ Thank you for sharing your knowledge.❤

I made one using this recipe, which worked really well. Ingredients 7 sachets of gelatine 3/4 of a cup of Isopropyl alcohol 200ml of glycerine 1 cup Water Method Soak your gelatine in a cup of water for about 5 mins. Then add all the ingredients Heat using a double saucepan, stirring continually until melted and clear. Pour into a non-stick/scratch free container (make sure there are no marks, embossing marks on the container). Put into the fridge for a couple of hours, keep flat! Make sure that both sides and edges are thoroughly dry before use. A microwave can be used at 45 second intervals. Remember to stir regularly.

Hello! Froyle my friend, as your knowledge base has grown, so has mine. As you do your experimental techniques on KZbin, I do those with you! You have enabled me to be so much more relaxed and have taught me to do my own experiments as well and I have actually perfected a few new techniques of my own with results that I just love!!! I can't thank you enough for sharing so much with those of us that have much still to learn! You have helped me to feel more confident with my creating and my own ideas for future experimenting. I am a Patreon member as well and learn more with each video and Skillshare lesson! It's actually a favorite weekend activity to save up 5 or 6 of your videos from those websites and watch for hours! I take a few notes and go into my little studio and have a blast listening to music and trying out whatever you did in those videos! Believe it or not even trying new color combos or a new stencil or 3 is really exciting to me! I always check your supply lists and links for some thing fabulous. Enough gushing! Thanks a bunch!

Hi Froyle, I've found your channel this week and, wow, I wish I'd found you sooner!! I absolutely love your enthusiasm, and the way you encourage people to just enjoy experimenting with this wonderful art form. I spent most of yesterday messing about (literally: me and my desk are both still covered in sparkly paint hehe!) with my gel plate and, while some prints worked out better than others, I loved every second of it, not least because I kept hearing your voice saying 'oh well, it's just paper!' And I've even saved the less successful prints to go back to another day, rather than binning them straight away as I used to. Oh, and I never knew not all gel plates are for the same thing(!) So, anyway, short message = Thank you!! :)

I'm a beginner and did one of the things you suggested not to do--I bought expensive paper and was afraid to use it. I saw a tip to use deli paper. (I'm in the U.S., do you have that in New Zealand?) It's cheap and works so beautifully that that is all I use at the moment. It's slightly waxed on one side, 12 x 12, and stronger than my expensive paper when it comes to pulling off multiple layers. Sometimes I forget to pull a print because I get sidetracked and have only remembered the following morning. In spite of that, it pulls beautifully every time. By the way, watching your videos never fails to raise my spirits. Many artists make me smile or chuckle but you're the one who absolutely cracks me up (Is that American slang or do you know what that means?) And there's nothing better that cracking up on a dreary day!

Thank you so much for sharing this video Foyle. I believe your videos were the first I watched after bringing home my geliarts plate and I'm still learning from you. At the time I didn't know there were other plates out there. I've accumulated 1 large, medium, small and one round one! Printers inks haven't worked well for me and now I know why! There are so, so many other take-aways here and the most important one after months of frustration and a whoooooole lot of prints, I'm finally feeling more relaxed. The joy of doing is always there though and will be for a lot more years to come. Again, thank you. You are such a joy to watch!

Oh my gosh…I purchased small speed ball plates for a workshop recently and the workshop was kind of a bomb because the paint wasn’t spreading like I expected. Mind blown when you said speedball gell plates are made for acrylic INKS, not paints. Read the Amazon description and sure enough. Such a waste as I bought a student pack this year and also a few years ago. No wonder no-one who takes my gel plate workshops goes on to continue gel printing! Thanks so much for this tip.

Fabulous as always my dear -- you are a superb teacher/coach/art-encourager, truly one of a kind ❤ FYI since I know you enjoy experimenting with new things, if you're inclined to test an 'oil-related' thing you might try using an oil stick on the gel plate (a single white one could get you started) -- you can brayer out a thin layer from the oil stick and then add alcohol inks (in any design/colors) -- the oil on the plate will hold the inks so you can pick up the print right away and without having to apply another layer of paint. The oil as a medium lets you do things with alcohol ink that acrylic doesn't & it's easy to remove from the plate with baby oil when you finish. If you decide to try it you might want to start with your little used 5x7 & see how it comes out. As you say so often, cheers!

I like seeing how people are using stencils and 10:11 is similar to another one I had seen where it would be better to have an inverted stencil instead of that one as it only seems good if you roll paint on it them lay it down on the paper to get that imprint. It would be good for stencils like that one to come in a 3 set; stencil, inverted stencil, mask for original stencil design. I do love the 411 at 12:45 where you explained Speedball plates are for inks! I had no idea diff plates had diff reasons. I love the acrylic backing idea you use as it has a handle for holding or hanging to dry I feel a whole world opened when you revealed 30:10 the bowls, and 29:37 fine art painting options for artistic growth. I do wonder if theres a way to do that without doing pour techniques. 🤔😊🧐 Q. What medium is inexpensive but works well as a clear coat to pull up the dry paint?

Oh my God…thanks for explaining about the Speedball gel plate! I bought one and it totally sucked, but I wasn’t using inks…and it’s funny that the woman at the very expensive art store didn’t tell me that. So good to know. I bought a couple of gel press plates and I love them, as you can probably tell by the amount I post on that group page…🙄😁. Thanks Froyle ❤️

Hello. You can still use your Speedball plate if you buy Speedball inks. They have a line of water soluble inks in addition to their regular line (including beautiful metallics), which makes cleaning up easier. Another mixed media artist named Robyn McClendon has done some videos on using Speedball inks on the gel plate. The effects are very “printerly.” She’s here on KZbin.

@@ochervelvet9687 yes, I have Robin’s book. I can’t afford to venture into inks right now. I just have paint.

I also use parchment paper and have no problems with it and I use wet tissue too.

Dear Froyle, FYI, 'Yeates Makes' did a review of GELELF' gel printing plates on his KZbin Channel. It is an extensive trial using tons of different materials and techniques. He found the results very satisfying and the plates are way more affordable.
