Seems like all people want to know how to do is buff paint out to a mirror finish. Well, everything has a proper procedure. You cant bake a cake until you turn the oven on. I have seen people claim to do a detail in an hour and charge $500 for it and all your getting is the worlds most expensive car wash. For those wanting to get into this industry, know that there are a LOT of scammers out there so you got to be on top of your game, be better than the other guy, and always stay humble!

Great info Mike, I have been watching and testing for a while and I still do not know it all. A good detailer will always watch and learn and try to improve him or herself. I came across a so called detailer that did not know what he was talking about to a customer that owns a 1950 caddy, and now the paint is scratched to hell. Never stop learning and improving is what I try to do.

I always trip on myself for taking so long on full detail jobs because I hear people saying they get done in under two hours and charge hundreds of dollars. I feel like I’m missing something cause it takes me anywhere from 3.5 - 6 hours!!!

Air compressor is so useful in detailing especially interior detailing! I definitely prefer a leaf blower for exterior drying of the car though

best way to dry is is a get a couple fans blowing on the c ar in a heated garage water blade the entire c ar top to bottom then air compressor shammy

Anytime you're moving air you're pulling airborne particulate along with it and throwing it at the surface of the car. So unless you're washing your car in a level 1 clean room this doesn't seem like a great idea.

I'm just saying there's particulate in the air and you're shooting it against the surface of your car, which taken superficially doesn't seem like a good idea. If I have a choice between that and a perfectly clean microfiber, I'll take the latter.

J D well I can tell you this much a microfiber will contribute more the marring the surface of your car then air will. Think about this way your car drives down the road at 70mph and does not get damaged sure there are rock chips but that comes from other cars throwing up stones. Air from a leaf blower will not damage your car lol

The dealership i detail at got us some tools called Tornadors. We used them all the time for sticky cup holders or i like to use them in hard to reach door jams and rockers or rocksalt on carpets dont stand a chance. Very useful tools if used correctly. Single thumb switch that toggles either a high flowing mist or just air at the same pressure as a normal air wand.

Yes, I also used to use that tool. I loved it at first but got to be a big PIA. Had to fill it up all the time and half the time it would just stop working, plus it's loud and creates a mist cloud of chemical and dirt.

For cars which have the door frame around the window I like to leave the window open just a bit to be able to clean the very top. I then shut all the windows and clean the bottoms.

In Tip #2, you are using a "clay towel" which has a layer of clay bonded to the towel. It works like a clay bar.

i live in las vegas, our summer temps are 115 outside. not matter what process i do for window cleaning, it will ALWAYS have streaks, even if i buy 10 ppm water, same things with a claybar, the water dries off too fast, and a decent air compressor wont fit in my van, and not everyone has a garage to work in lol

Serge Shaakov I have the same problem with a lot of window cleaners. Have you tried stoners invisiglass? I only use it on extremely hot days but I’ve never gotten streaks. Invisiglass with a two waffle weave towel method. Works wonders

Great video. I have seen it befor and I here watching it again. I am not a detailer yet but I am slowly walking to that direction. I have just purchased my 1st detailing kit and I have purchased and invested in quite a good amount of stuff already. At the present moment I am working for a posh garage as the car washer. I learned the 2 cloth method for the windows from you but I really get mad when I miss a spot or the windshield or windows still has a streak. It is an open air car wash. But where I miss more times is on the wheels and I get so mad because I scrub and scrub and dry the wheels and I can still miss sometimes... I need to try drop the time I take a bit more. I avarage 2h for a full interior and exterior wash. And If I am preparing a car for the showroom (the company has the showroom and the garage) I can take longer than that. Do you happen to miss spots some times? Do you have to retouch some times? Regards buddy!

Claybar doesn't scratch? It most certainly does. Don't use a claybar unless you plan on polishing afterwards. Otherwise you are just scratching the vehicle even further.

Completely depends on the market.... for instance in my area consistent business is in the 120-200 dollar range for a full interior or full exterior detail. (Not including paint correction) some guys in higher end areas would laugh at that amount for a detail. I would start mobile detailing first, feel out the market and move from there. Especially because you will have to steal a lot of customers from other detailers.

Another question... when you started out mobile detailing was it understood with the client that you would use their water connection or did you have a tank in the vehicle? A friend of mine installed a tank in his van but he was never able to get the pump to sufficiently provide the right amount needed to run a pressure washer.

My new car has sealant put on from the dealership. This was done before possession. Will Clay bar strip this sealant?

You can get light scratches, and therefore a polish may be needed, and by that polish your sealant be removed. If your car is new, you should just use a tar removere, and a ferrous fallout remover spray, let that soak for 2 minutes and rinse off. Im sorry for my bad english, but i hope that you'll understand.

No usually the packaging says how many vehicles you can play before disposing. Clay mitts tend to do more vehicles than a clay bar
