Over 50km of trails were just reopened up in Waterton Lakes National Park the other day! They include the hike to Bertha Falls and Bertha Lake, the Crandell Lake Loop, Horseshoe Basin, and the Lakeshore trail! Also, the Bertha Bay, Bertha Lake, and Boundary Bay backcountry campgrounds are open as well! Happy hiking everyone!

Recently the Akamina Parkway (to Cameron Lake and other hikes) and the Red Rock Parkway were opened to foot/bike traffic! Still closed for vehicles, but it looks like progress is being made in reopening the areas affected by the 2017 wildfire!

nice video - there is this old hotel/ old building on the lake - what is that place and is there any hike to see that hotel. I have seen some great pictures of that place and associate Waterton to that place. Not mentioned on your list but saw a glimpse of that hotel in your video. But would like to have more information on that place

Jeremy Reimer for tenting/trailer camping the Crandall Mountain Campground is good, although it's first come first serve so get there early. There's a Campground in the town, but that's more of an RV park. Glad you liked the video!

For everyone watching this video now, Waterton Lakes National Park was devastated by a wildfire at the end of the summer in 2017. Currently Cameron Falls and the exploring the town are open to be visited, but Cameron Lake, Akamina Lake, Red Rock Canyon, and the Bear's Hump hike are in the area closed off to the public for further notice. For more information on the area closures visit: www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ab/waterton/visit/ouvert-open

Thank you for posting a very useful video. I am visiting Waterton very soon and of course a first timer. I heard that we might see bears walking on hiking areas? is it true? How do we prepare our safe trip?
@JourneyAlberta
@JourneyAlberta 6 жыл бұрын
Atignas thanks for watching! You may see bears around the park and on trails, but there’s nothing to worry about. When you’re hiking I recommend yelling out every so often something like “Hey Oh!”. It lets any animals out there know you’re there, as they are more afraid of us. If you don’t have bear spray you should be able to rent it in the town, Tamarack Outfitters should have it. Have fun!
@atignas1576

Thank you so much for your reply. This helps. So, we can buy bear spray at local stores like Shoppers, superstore? This incident is not from Canada but I have seen a man who got injured by a bear- got scratched on all over his face ( I get goose bumps even just on recalling that moment). That was pretty scary. Those bears were wild bears and had very less contact with humans. And, this is not a case here. I am hoping to explore all these 5 things you mentioned here in the video. I am sure, my family will enjoy the trip. Thank you once again.

Thanks for posting this video. Great information. What about in winter at waterton? What are the attractions in january or feb time?
@JourneyAlberta
@JourneyAlberta 5 жыл бұрын
Mohammadi Sakir in winter Waterton is pretty quiet, most of the stores are closed as well as the gas station I believe. There’s just a couple hotels and maybe a couple restaurants that stay open all year long. There’s still good opportunities to go cross country skiing and snowshoeing there in the winter, the Red Rock Parkway and Akamina Parkway are open to those activities this winter!

Just wondering if the Bear Humps hike is only over 1 km and is it safe to hike their meaning not to scramble and all.
@JourneyAlberta
@JourneyAlberta 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's definitely not a scramble, I've seen many families do it over the years. Could be a hot time in the summer though since the fire destroyed all the tree cover!

Dems are all nice things to do, but first for me is straight to the hotel room to pump off to some Penthouse Letters before I even dream of doing any of the things you listed, but a great list and I highly recommend them as well, especially Bears Hump.
