If you plan to visit Glacier National Park in 2024, these are 5 things you should know before going!
My name is Jeff Hyer, I was born and raised outside of Glacier National Park and this is my current home base. It’s been a privilege to grow up in these gorgeous mountains and I still love exploring them every chance I get. While I feature natural destinations and National Parks all around the world on my channel, I’m excited to share some local insights about my home park in today’s video.
In this video I’ll be sharing some important tips that will help you have a safe and seamless journey to Glacier National Park. I’ll be explaining vehicle reservation details, the free shuttle system, and the differences between the 4 main areas of the park. I’ll also be sharing some important bear safety tips and ways you can be an eco-conscious traveler when immersed in this wilderness.

One thing to know is that only 26 of the roughly 150 glaciers remain.

Hi Jeff, Thanks a lot for your video! I is very helpful and easy to understand! Going to visit GNP at the end of August this year. Is it still very busy by the end of August?
@Jeff_Hyer
@Jeff_Hyer 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching, I'm glad you found this video helpful in your planning! To answer your question, visitation slows down significantly towards the end of August (in correlation to kids going back to school). However, this time is still considered the busy summer season, good-weather days and weekend will be busy :)

@@Jeff_Hyer Oh Jeff...another question :) The road to Bowman and Kintla lake is unpaved, I know. But is it really that bad na d hard to drive to those lakes? Renting an SUV and unpaved could mean a lot...thank you :)

This video has helped tremendously!!!we are plnning a trip in July to Yellowstone and Glacier but it is all very last minute planned. I was getting very discouraged about Glacier due to the fact I can fins no camp sites available as well as no park reservation. I was going to cancel Glacier completely which left me heart broken. Do you have any recommendations for camp sites near by?

@@Jeff_Hyer Hi Jeff, I know no one has crystal ball but what's the likelhoodl of GTTR open by June 22 weekend this year after the short winter but slow warming spring?
@Jeff_Hyer
@Jeff_Hyer 2 ай бұрын
@@wpgc2 based on how the conditions are right now, it’s promising that GTTR could be open to vehicle traffic by that date! (But you never know, a fluke June snowstorm could set us back all over again)

Can we visit many glacier if we are coming from west entrance ?
@Jeff_Hyer
@Jeff_Hyer 15 күн бұрын
The two areas are not connected by road inside the park boundary. To reach Many Glacier from the West Entrance, you will have to exit the park and re-enter via Many Glacier’s own gate

Hi Jeff, I am considering not renting a car because of the expense and bc of traffic, but will rent a car if there are limitations to the shuttle system that will impact my trip. If you're being honest do you think I could do everything by shuttle? Are there things I might want to do that the shuttle could not get me to? What about getting food, going to breakfast and dinner? I am stayinga 3-5 min drive from the west enrance in an ABB that has a kitchentte, but its not a hotel with meals. But perhaps I could get food ahead of time once I land at the airport. And what about getting from the airport to the west entance without a car? Thank you!
@Jeff_Hyer
@Jeff_Hyer 2 күн бұрын
Thank you for your message! Having a car can be both a convenience and a hassle in GNP, depending on where you’re trying to get to in the park! It sounds like renting a car in your case is the way to go for airport/accommodation transfers and food access, but you might not always need it while exploring the inner park. If you’re visiting for a short period (

@@Jeff_HyerThank you so much this is so helpful! I'm staying for 3.5 days excluding airport travel and will want to pack in everything I can, so will probably rent a car. Thank you!
