Have you seen anyone make these 5 bad plays before? Also, here are my top 5 most truly awful poker strategies (never, ever do these!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXXCeI15rNuMkMk

We all have but im not too bad for those except the odd river checkback (depending on the situation ofc). What do you think of ppl over-playing mid pairs?

I played basketball since I was 5. In my teens I used to spend 7 hours training every day, I'd watch some basketball games up to three times. Once for enjoyment, twice for techniques (footwork, etc), third time for play making. What I do now for poker is play a couple hours a day most days, watch play & explain for my level, do quizzes, watch higher stakes for enjoyment & to see how way better players play, review hands, and once I have enough money hire a coach

I agree with you with all the points BUT the #5…with A❤️5❤️8♠️ flop, Q♦️ turn and 8♣️ river I check behind because of my #6 rule 👉🏼 95% of the time you’ll only be called by players who got you beat. If you bet at the rec player raise you, what do you do? 😂

Yeah right? Why not just check the river and let the missed draw take a stab at it and snap em off with your pocket 9s?

I obv agree with folding iffy hands out of position to 3-bets but the odd time i'll call with em just so they don't think i'll fold to any 3-bet & only continue if i smash the flop.

I often make mistakes with the vakue bet on the river. I tend to make it too large a bet. Especially when I know they have the ace and I beat them. Too many times i hit the all in button and they dont call. Sometimes they do though and that makes me happy 😂

Excellent vid! Educational, informative, helpful and from the heart. BRAVO! Regarding the value bet on river with P9’s example, based on your board what if player returns with large raise, what would your response be 9 out of 10 times? Thank you in advance.

I agree with everything you say and have said in all your videos. In fact I think you are hands down the best internet instructor out there and I have seen them all. I don't however agree with this particular hand example. 9,9 with an ace and a queen on the board against a rec player who would most likely will passively call you all the way down with an Ace in hand if you were betting into him/her is way more likely to happen than they just happen to have a small pair and decide to call your river bet. Your advice is rock solid, I just don't think this particular example hand is a good one.

I really appreciate your videos though. I think you're the first online poker instructor who is actually trying to help people get truly better, than just getting better enough to give them the false confidence to play against winning regs and pros ultimately allowing them to become more fodder in the Poker World playing pool. Keep it up. I have learned a lot from you.

Hey Nathan good content, but I think in the past when you mentioned # 5 you have given a better board than in this example. e.g. If K58hhs then the river bet with 99 makes more sense (people call with Ace high more often than King high). Or your other examples hero had TP but weak kicker, bet OTF checked Turn.)

In example 1, if a TAG opens in early position I'm not too interested in calling with 54s -- even if it is on the button. 89s maybe. If the flop is good for 54s a TAG may fold anyhow -- and if he doesn't he may well have an overpair. I just don't think there's a lot of opportunity with 54s on the button against a TAG who opened early.

last point i rather make the thin value bet on the turn as rec players may easier call and its easier than to check behind. U will not often get a call on the river as the hand is now what it is. On the turn they call as there is still a chance with 1 card to come
@christophercyr6447
@christophercyr6447 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. Small turn bet will probably get a call and pot commits them just a little bit for calling another thin value river bet. I've learned that at the small stakes live casino games (1-2 and 2-3) its all about mastering thin value bets with your marginal to medium strong hands. You can make a living off just doing that part of the game really well. I tend to stay away from semi bluffing drawing hands and bluffing in general as most players will just call you down and also usually don't have big enough stacks to make it worth it if you do hit your draw. Knowing how to extract the most money with Top pair top kicker and two pair hands is absolutely essential at this level. Pot control and thin value betting is the key. IMO

On point 1, I would call and try to turn some equity. If i didn’t improve, I fold and even if I do improve then I would be cautious. I don’t call on the river.

Sometimes I miss the river value bets at first to give a false sense of friendly game. And later on I make larger river bets so that they think I’m trying to bluff them off and they pay me. But I see that now as maybe being more work than I need to be doing. I just feel that most of the pros in $5/10 and $10/20 know all this so they are way less likely to pay you off any amount and that’s maybe why I feel the need to try to get tricky, tricky, tricky!

Thank you, you identified one of my two biggest mistakes I've realized previously. # 4. I call mine by a different name (Idiot Fancy Crappola). I'm heading to a WSOP Circuit $400 investment/ 1/2 million guaranteed tournament in 4 days. I appreciate your bringing to my minds forefront on this. I haven't played much in last year & have been thinking, soul searching what my most capable had been & trying to stimulate my 78 y/o brain in that mode, plus improvements. Thanks for lots of info you've shared.

I expect that calling a reasonable size 3 bet with a pair is OK. i.e. set mining. Same probably goes for hands like 98s. But yes, trash like KJoff and even KQoff are best folded if you face a 3-bet. Calling a 3 bet and being dominated is a really bad thing. 9:48 I check because I am rarely getting called by weaker. Now if my opponent calls with damn near anything, then sure, 99 becomes a bet.

truth, this ends up being profitable sometimes for fun, just to get in on weird hands as cheap as possible and hit early straights or flushes, or the rare full house noone expects. then switch back to playing really tight and watch them call you with K-9o or something. gold
