At the end of this year, I will have ONE YEAR worth of expenses saved plus an extra 10k for emergencies. I’ve been working for this so hard. I can’t wait to resign in November. I will give them a 6 week notice and be done before Christmas. I can’t wait for this freedom and I’m so proud of myself.

I quit my job due to health reasons, and though I was £00,000's in debt it was the best decision I made. Within under 3 years the debt was paid, loved my accountancy roll, though the person I was working with made life difficult after 18mths enough was enough. No one could work with them for more than a few weeks before quitting.

Thanks for sharing! As an aspiring youtuber, i really appreciated your reframing tip around not thinking of quiting as a pay cut but as building equity. Plus, worse case you return to a different job, which is not a big deal!

As I am now working on shifting my career from engineering to management consultancy, I would say these steps apply too, I am now working as a freelance management consultant in the evenings and weekends to build an experience that will support me while applying to management consultancy firms, I am also stacking up some money to support me if I take a cut in my salary.

I love your practical and realistic advice! Especially about the importance of keeping a safety net. It's good to keep in mind, that although KZbin/Google Adsense can yield a significant income in itself (if planning on starting a YT channel), it will take a lot of time to get there. I've seen creators state that their monetizing journey took anywhere between 6 months and 2 years, and then another couple of months to reach the income that allowed them to quit their jobs. I recognized that staying consistent throughout this building phase is the toughest but most importance part. Hence why I've started building a back log of videos, so I can ensure I'll be able to release a video once a week while still working. Of course, I've also set a deadline for uploading the first vid, otherwise I could keep making videos without actually uploading forever.

I took the plunge to be an enterprenuer a few months ago and honestly, the reframing of "I might fail and what happens when I fail" was hard for me. Coincidentally I had come to the same conclusion that if I fail, I'll proudly put this put on my resume and go back to a tech job. I'm not done with this path yet but also acknowledge how isolating it is. Most people struggle with this mindset shift, including my friends and family, which can both add to the isolation of working for yourself and self doubt.

I'm the friend! I think it's been 10 years since I first thought that I want a podcast. I'm so burned out from my professional job now that I'm thinking of quitting without a backup plan just so that I can focus on discovering what other industry I want to work in, plus put fresh energy into the podcast, and not the leftover energy I can scrape by on evenings and weekends. So I would actually skip straight to 5 😅

I married outside my culture and lived abroad 10 years, which has had it's challenges personally and financially, however I have learnt more and had a richer life than staying in my home country. I am looking forward to doing something new soon and ready to take a few risks when I have got the financial cusion / side income sorted. I think an important part of the equasion is also asking yourself why first. Working for yourself has been put on such a pedestal in the influencer era, as if it is default better, but it's not for everyone. Are you doing it because you are genuinely excited about it, or because people make you feel like enjoying your 9 to 5 is somehow deficient or weak?

It's easy to quit when you have been working for less than 2-3 years with the same company. But, it's much more difficult after 15 years. After 15 years of work, the severance package can reach 16 months of pay. If you quit, you lose it!

$300k or about £235k puts you easily in the top 1% of earners. After even 5 years of that you can be a millionaire just by maxing out pension, using ISA allowances and putting the rest into savings or property. I guess such work is higher stress but this has set you up with what I call FU money, I got there myself, albeit a bit slower, but I'm realistic the vast majority of people (often in jobs society undervalues) will never get to that point and so taking a leap is a real and tangible risk. It's great that you are successful, inspirational even, but your career is like winning the lottery to most people and sadly people's life chances are somewhat predetermined by circumstances. I think the message is you can always improve your lot, even if that isn't riches and finding a niche that you finding rewarding and pays better is achievable.

@@brandoncliffswarts5100 what might seem effortless and easy is only made so because of a lot of hard work, intelligence and skills learned through hard won experience. Whilst I’m sure Nischa might be flattered to be called attractive (though I can’t say for certain this is true, of course), it is the eorst firm of denigration to focus on attractiveness and not listen to what she is saying and the hard-won wisdom behind what she is saying. Stop focusing on the superficial and look at deeper things. Her content is very relatable, understandable and effective.
