I bought a 2013 ATS 2.0L AWD car off the lot new. The car now has 87,000 miles on it in 2024. The car handles well. There have been a few problems and this is what I have changed: 1. Y coolant pipe leaked $20 part 2. changed diff fluid so now it is fine did this myself and its not hard $50 3. replaced wheel bearings, knuckles, ball joint, front control arm and back control arm, sway bar links in front of car (2013 has irreplaceable ball joint so you have to change the knuckle. DId this myself too an it is not hard. $850 for all parts 4. changed spark plugs (upgrade the plugs to NGK or Denso if possible) $55 5. added a oil catch can from ZZP (easy install maybe 30 minutes)$130 6. It currently needs a valve cover gasket (i hear this is hard, but will do it myself. if you can't do this yourself dealer charges $1,000)$60 in parts 7. had annoying "shift to park" light on dash. The car would not shut off and would not lock. I replaced shifter in automatic trans myself and now it is fine, easy 2 hour fix $150 8. Replaced battery and alternator $300 battery and $150 alternator for a total of $450 9. CUE screen cracked, bought one on ebay for $130 and it has fixed the problem for 2 years and going. 10. changed brake pads and rotors, OEMs lasted 80,000 miles $300 11. I wanted a 3rd key fob. Bought one off of ebay $25 and programmed it myself(if you don't know the owners manual tells you how to program key fob in 5 minutes and works great!) 12. changed ATF $100 If my math is correct that's $2,320 in parts and me doing all the labor myself over 11 years. I'd say the car is pretty darn great car. Assuming you can fix cars yourself, the repair costs are very low and this is a great car and very reliable. The car still runs great after 11 years. The car rides great and corners even better. The 2.0L does have nice power and gets good gas mileage on the highway. I still get 25 in the city and over 30 on the highway. I don't ever want to sell this car, I think it looks as cool as the day I bought it.....The styling is great. The only issue I can't resolve is the tiny scratches and scrapes in the paint(I don't do body work)

The differentials are not "weak." The vent on the differential is the culprit ... a twelve dollar part. The 2.0L turbo engine problem is limited to 2013 and early 2014 models, and there's an easy fix with different spark plugs. The early CUE systems were slow, no doubt. GM will do a transmission flush which solves any shifting problems. The coolant "Y" pipe has to be watched and replaced if and when it cracks. The ATS is the best handling and riding car for the money.

It,s more responsive. Cost $35. 2, Powertrain warranty repaired both the intake and exhaust cam solenoids. They were giving me check engine codes and there was a recall on them. 3, AC had a nasty mildew smell, warranty repair rerouted the drain pipe from the hvac. Took 3 trips to dealership to resolve. 4, The differential is leaking little oil, I used bars leak differential leak stop. 5, Tie rod ends and ball joints only last about 60k on this car. I really like this car besides those problems. I just sent the last payment with the stimulus check!

Back in June of this year I bought a 2016 ATS Coupe rwd 2.0T performance trim w/ just under 45k miles on it for basically $20k, $16k cash and my 2012 ford escape w/ 113k miles on it. Which IMO is a hell of a deal considering the very low miles for an 8 yr old car in immaculate condition 1 previous owner, never been in an accident. I really wanted an ATS-V but the cost was at a minimum double for atleast the same year (2016) and roughly same mileage (under 50k). So what I did was for another roughly $8k-$9k in parts and labor (my uncle did the installing) I added/upgraded a cold air intake, full exhaust, down pipe, intercooler, larger throttle body, cams and a dyno tune I’ve moved my bitch from the stock 272hp & 295 fptq to 412hp & 433 fptq which is pretty close to the 2016 ATS-V specs for about atleast $10k-$12k less. With that being said I’ve heard and was told to stay away from the V6 3.6L engine ATS’ from a few mechanics who said that engine is almost as bad as the old north star cadillac engines.

I'm almost at 47k miles now and after a few performance mods like a DP, cat back exhaust, cold air intake, intercooler, and a dyno tune. The CUE and differential on my '16 experienced problems and were fixed by my dealer at no cost to me. A nuisance yes, but not horrific. The piston problems occurred on '13 and early '14 2.0L engines, and many of those had engines that were modified by their owners causing them to fail. The oil catch can is unnecessary. All turbocharged ICE-powered cars route blowby gases back through the intake system to burn them off and do not require oil catch cans. The fold-down rear seat comes with the higher trim levels. My Premium has that feature. It works just fine. I've never heard of anyone having seat problems, but if you're 250 lbs or more you have other problems than your car seats. This car is not perfect, and it is not an appliance. It does ride and handle extremely well. It's quiet and gets excellent fuel economy. I drive quite conservatively and have averaged 30.5 MPG over the 18k miles I've driven it since buying used. Please consider my statements here to be mostly objective.

The oil catch can is needed. Shows you don’t know what your talking about. I bet your intercooler and intake manifold have oil in them…. All cars have a pcv system but turbo cars will have long longevity with a catch can….
@rand49er2 жыл бұрын
@@sirloin4372 I virtually never operate my car at anything approaching wide-open-throttle conditions and therefore rarely create high cylinder pressures. If I tracked the car where there were frequent high cylinder pressures pushing exhaust gases past the rings and into the crankcase, I might seriously consider one. My education (mechanical engineer specializing in internal combustion engines) and work history (tested engines on engine dynos for a number of years) would seem to indicate I do indeed know what I'm talking about. @@rand49er you literally have no clue what you are talking about. Go check out Tracy Lewis catch can for ats. It’s less of a catch can and more of vaccum purge. See what those guys are pulling out each oil change. Around 8 ounces of gunk, all that gunk would’ve gone into your intake and lowered your octane and possibly contributed to LSPI. All turbo charged cars should run a catch can if you care about longevity. I person will use Tracy’s as he knows the ltg and this was designed by him. Go back to school little boy. @mattlazarski32783 жыл бұрын
Was the diff fixed for 2016? I haven't heard that they updated them. I just bought a 2016 3.6 and if I don't have to worry about it that would be great. The cue actually works and has carplay, but my trans does shift hard when cold 1-2.
@lions2084363 жыл бұрын
@@mattlazarski3278 Not sure exactly. However, I do know that they updated the intake, valve and some suspension parts, and perhaps the diff was one of the issues they fixed. I also notice the slight hard shifts from 1 to 2 during the winter, but have had the tech look at it thoroughly and said it's fine. I now have 98k miles on the caddie and no issues. No problem engine problems or slow cue or cracking of screen with the V6 model. I have a 2013 Cadillac ATS premium AWD ,I would never buy the 4cylinder turbo those problems are happening because it’s a under powered engine trying to move a heavy car go V6 naturally aspirated or V8 whoever came up with the 4 cylinder was a genius knowing it would need replacement due to low power, I sell cars for a living gone through many cars/trucks with turbos there all junk eventually need replacement these days there making pick up trucks that switch from 4 cylinder to 6 to 8 that’s then get stuck in a certain mode the problem is don’t buy that puzzy shit !only buy V6 or v8 keep it simple not a weak under powered engine then add a turbo so it has the power of a V6 WTF? just buy a V6/V8 from the beginning .
