Before covid on Halloween, I went to a cemetery and brushed off leaves from 50 different headstones as I walked to each one, I offered a Hail Mary for them by name as I went along. Then, at the end, I offered the entire Rosary to all souls in the Cemetery. I'd like to go back to doing that. It was so peaceful.

When I go running, I use my fingers to pray the rosary and I am able to keep track and pray. When I don't run, I use the rosary.

@@BishopSheenRosaries I sometimes pray the Rosary while on an elliptical machine at the gym. A Rosary keychain can't really be used for that because I have to keep my hands on the machine's handles. So I don't (actually, can't) use actual beads in that case. Some people may also like to pray the Rosary while doing their gardening or working their factory job or something. They can keep count with their fingers, or (as I sometimes do) just mentally -- in which case, I alternate between praying the Hail Mary is English (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) and Latin (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) to help me keep count. In principle, yes, we should use beads while praying the Rosary whenever we can. But I think we can be flexible enough to acknowledge that in some situations, we can pray it without the beads. I doubt the Blessed Virgin Mary would mind.

I also, like some of the replies here, use my fingers during exercise. I walk my dog in the mornings and I find that it can be very meditative. It always sets my day perfectly. I think that as long as you are praying, with or without a rosary, you are still in communion with our Spiritual Mother Mary. Like any mother, I am sure she still appreciates a “phone call”from us.

I've found that people who pray too loudly and out of sync with the group are suffering from hearing loss; we should simply be grateful they can still join us during prayer ...

The Rosary is a long and very beautiful prayer, be always prepared for it with meditation. Don't pray when you're tired or sleepy, don't start right away, just take time to relax and meditate before you start, other words give it the time needed, it's worth it. Pray each mystery offered to the Holy Virgin with deep respect and appreciation then when you start the our Father and the 10 Hail Mary, imagine yourself present at the scene of the mystery more than 2000 years ago, kneeling behind and at the feet of the most Holy Queen, offering hommage and compassion, imagine yourself right there for example at the scene on Golgotha where Jesus crucified on the cross, kneeling behind Mary who's standing beside the cross, and praying the Hail Mary with such a deep compassion to Her agony and sufferings. Compassion and appreciation, meditate on making Her feeling consoled from your prayers, if She's happy be jubilant for Her, if She's worried give Her comfort, if She's in sadness give Her consolation, that's what the whole Rosary is all about, pray it that way and you'll never get distracted nor bored and remember when you have compassion, love and appreciation for the Mother of God, you're having the same compassion, love and appreciation for Jesus, He love His Mother so much that whoever loves His Mother with all their hearts, they'll have a special place in Jesus's heart. May your prayers be heard.

I accidentally came across this video. Thanks a lot for this beautiful video. I am 43 yrs old and I have been praying Rosary since I remember in my childhood. Always family Rosary in my home and after my marriage I continue in my house with my husband and my two teenage boys. It always helps in my family life and in spiritual life and in everything. I love my blessed Mother , she hold us firm with Jesus , she hold us firm with sacraments. I have even started praying 4 Rosaries daily with the grace of God since couple of years. I have seen wonders and miracles in my life. I always make sure ask for spiritual blessings more than physical and material blessings. Sometimes the Holy Spirit calls us through distraction. When a distraction arises, mentally incorporate it into he mystery itself. My friend who is going through a painful divorce often comes to mind during the carrying of the cross. OR just by meditating briefly on rhe mystery, someone or something comes to mind; place that thought/ person into the mystery.

Mmmm, if you’re constantly distracted, that may be a sign you lack appropriate custody and control of thoughts - I’m skeptical it is the Holy Spirit (I don’t think it’s reasonable that the Holy Spirit would intentionally distract you during the Rosary of all things). We are told to hold all thoughts captive to Christ - you have to build mental discipline.

Something that has helped me more than any other tip is downloading several versions of each of the 4 rosaries with sacred art and chant music. You cannot help but meditate on each mystery when you have a visual in front of you of the agony in the garden or the crowning with thorns. And we are so blessed to be able to view the work of great masters of art and their depiction and interpretation of the life of Christ. I become an onlooker and place myself mentally in each scene and truly experience each mystery as it unfolds. Best rosary aid I have ever used.

I think I have at least 4 versions of each set of mysteries and they are all from utube. I just saved them to my playlist titled “Holy Rosary” which is right above my multiple versions of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The best one of those is a 10 minute one with scenes from the Passion of the Christ. Very powerful.

Since I was little perhaps 7 or 8 I would see my great grandma pray the rosary and I used my fingers when she didn't have one and I would imitate every movement of her fingers. If I may offer one thing that SHOULD be done when praying the Rosary ... we should say "amen" at the end of the Our Father. There have been numerous times in a group setting where I'm the only one saying that word. I think it's because we don't say "amen" after this prayer during Holy Mass, so that's ingrained in people. But outside of that specific time, we should indeed say "amen."

Always have my rosary with me ever since when I was in my early teens influenced/taught by a devout Catholic mother. It´s with me everywhere I go. In my handbag, in my pocket (if didn´t have my handbag with me). I felt at peace & safe knowing it´s close to me even if I´m not praying with it. I would like to share you this story - When I went to have my grocery shopping one day, and I come to the till to pay for my items, I couldn´t find my handbag where my wallet was, so that´s when I realized that I accidentally left my handbag in the shopping trolley outside but upon checking on it it was nowhere to be found but somehow despite of this, it seems I wasn´t that worried. So, I inquired at the shop´s customer service/lost & found if they have some handbag being put away & the staff asked me just ONE particular item in the handbag that relates to me and I said, there´s a little brown mini wallet in there which inside is my ROSARY. Needless to say, they hand me back my handbag!

Re your 4th "stop doing". I used to use a physical rosary when driving until the day it got caught in the middle part of the driver wheel hub. It was well and truly jammed in there, enough to make it difficult for me to turn. I learned my lesson: my fingers never get caught in anything when I count with them!

Dear Adam, thank you so much for this. It's very helpful; tip #1 especially. I see group prayer of the rosary to be like a chorus too and it's a helpful reminder to help one another enter into prayer too when we try to be in unison. About the rosary beads, for me, the physical rosary is at the end of the day an excellent tool one uses to pray the rosary and I find using my hands as just that, a tool which allows me to pray the rosary anywhere, anytime, at any moment, especially at times where I am not able to carry anything or I have no pockets. The actual rosary beads are super helpful, but I find entering into prayer using my fingers also as a means to enter into that prayer. Thank you so much for this ministry in glory of God! I find it difficult to stay focussed on the Mysteries, but I still persist in using the Rosary, as I have heard somewhere, that the Rosary is a sword to use against the devil. A non- meditative Rosary may be a blunted sword, but it is still possible to do damage with a blunt sword, and it is surely better, if one has to confront the devil to have a blunt sword than to be unarmed. In a group it just makes sense to pace yourself with the group. I agree that the Fatima prayer was called to be said at the end of each decade, but is it a bad thing to beg for Mercy, I randomly do both. Most days I work my way through 15 decades, on my fingers. Is it imperfect? Absolutely imperfect. Is it better than not praying? Without a doubt. Do I stumble and repeat? Yes, actually if I find myself lost I'll do my best to re-pray what I think I may have messed up. I drive OTR Monday through Friday and typically pray through about 85% of my driving hours. Praying unceasingly is what we're called to do. In my prayers I call to mind the Scripture of the particular decade to the best of my knowledge and then my own personal intentions for that decade and try to meditate on those while praying that decade. I'm by myself so I pray everything out loud. We need guidelines for prayer because as broken creatures we really don't know what we're doing, but I feel in personal prayer throughout our busy days praying as much as possible and however you can. All in reverence, of course

Some "mistakes" I make. Well, not really "mistakes", rather experiences: #1 Praying the Rosary while doing something else - Many of us pray the Rosary while on our commute, or driving, or working out. There is nothing wrong with that, but it's important that the Rosary doesn't simply become "a devotion to pass time". Sometimes it's good to just sit down and focus 100% on praying the Rosary. #2 Adding too much stuff - many of us like to finish with one of the Marian antiphons, prayer to St. Michael, prayer to St. Joseph, even a litany. Again, not inherently wrong, but it can make the Rosary feel like a chore. Sometimes, I pray what I call "a minimalist Rosary", which is simply the decades themselves with Our Father, Hail Mary's, and Glory Be. No Fatima Prayer, no introductory prayers, no prayers at the end. Stripping the Rosary to its bare bones like this has often rekindled my love for the devotion, when it started to feel like a chore. #3 Having an "all or nothing" mindset, especially as a beginner - if you're just starting out praying the Rosary, it's okay to just pray one decade and then finish. It is better to pray one decade devoutly, than five decades sloppily. Begin small and work your way up to the full five decades. #4 Having too many Rosaries - now hear me out first! There's nothing wrong with having lots of Rosaries. Most of us end up with a "Rosary collection" without even thinking about it. But Rosaries should freely be given away, to family, friends or strangers. Share of your blessings. #5 Not exploring the world of chaplets and other Rosary-based prayers - there's a vast world of different kind of Rosary-like prayers (which we call chaplets). I myself especially like the six-decade Rosary (called the Carmelite Rosary), and the "Little Crown" (a smaller one, with 12 Hail Mary's divided into 3 "decades"). There are also booklets with specific Bible passages or meditations for each mystery. #6 Feeling bad for not praying the Rosary (often enough) - while Holy Mother Church highly recommends the Rosary, it is not mandatory. The most important thing is that you find (Church-approved) ways of honouring our Lord and our Lady. Be it mental prayer and contemplation, daily Scripture readings, Eucharistic adoration, daily Mass, Liturgy of the Hours. Just keep an open mind and listen to the Spirit. These are just some of my experiences. I joined the Catholic Church over five years ago, and the Rosary was an important part of that. Mother with your Blessed Son, Bless us each and every one!

1. I have difficultly praying in groups because many of them pray so incredibly slowly that I cannot focus on the prayer. A good normal speaking pace without any extra weird inflections, etc. Also annoying when some people use "you/your" instead of "thee/thy/thou." Perhaps I'm too neurotic to pray with others!😂 2. SO many pray the Fatima prayer after the opening prayer... Occasionally I forget and do that too. It's really no biggie if you forget and pray it, but yes, it's not supposed to be said at that point. 3. Mediation on mysteries... The struggle is real. 😭 4. Using fingers to pray is better than not saying it at all... because you lost your rosary... 🙄😂 5. I forget to offer up my rosary sometimes... So I figured Our Lady will direct it wherever it needs to go. 🤷 5.

I pray the rosary twice a day and I do do not see a fault with using your fingers when nerds be, I have cancer and have MRI brain scans twice a year gone down from four times a year, while in the scanner I have severe panic attacks before during and after MRI scan, I say the rosary with my fingers and I don't miss anything, like a previous person said god made us and made my fingers amen 🙏

I pray the Rosary however I can. I have a rosary ring, a rosary necklace and my ten fingers that God gave me. I'm not gonna say a rosary just because I don't have a set of beads on me. Amen, group Rosary and especially the Liturgy is not a privatised prayer to be prayed at one's own pace to the detriment of unity..... and effectiveness. The rule is: follow the leader! It's written into the Eucharist Prayer - at least in the Novus Ordo: "with one voice, we proclaim". Regarding Intentions, the Dominicans recommend avoiding an endless litany of intentions, to mention a few main ones, and to entrust the rest - unspoken to Our Lady's intercession...... this will vary according to how many little children are present of course.

After I lost my mother the only close relative i had, born without other siblings, i went to the statue of Mother Mary and asked her to be my Mother. The peace that ensued assured me that She had obliged. Since then I heve never experienced loneliness. Please return to the same group. Think of this as a small Sacrifice to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Never turn away from a suffering. Endure it in peace and offer it. It will make your prayers more valuable and if truly suffered in the Name of the Savior it will draw you closer to Him. Pray for that speedy person's intentions. Maybe they have an anxiety problem that they are suffering through, maybe they are just unaware of what they are doing.

Ok let me get this right, your saying that if you use your fingers you will not keep track of how many Hail Marys you have prayed. Really? A rosary has 10 beads and I have 10 fingers. Also it is a physical action to use each finger. My second point is you say we must offer intentions for other people. What about the people who have consecrated themselves to Mary? If I remember correctly in that case your intention is that any indulgence you earn you offer it to Mary for her to be used to further her Son’s Will.

I'm not saying you WILL lose track, but in my experience you're more likely to be focused on where you are then if you just move along on the beads or if you're counting in your head. You're correct on Marian consecration; there's a lot of advantages to consecration, but requires consistency in your prayers to Her and your daily Rosary! Thanks for your comments.

You say to never pray the rosary without stating your intentions. I occasionally will offer it for Our Ladies’ intentions. Are you saying I shouldn’t? I make this offering to Mary, believing she might know better what needs prayer than my own selfish prayers. And let me ask, is it okay to list several intentions, which I usually do, i,e: I pray my 5 children each will return to the Church and the sacraments, I pray for world peace, I pray for our priests, and for the Church, and I pray for the souls in Purgatory, and I pray for America.

Pray for all the intentions and souls you wish! If you're praying for something you don't need in the eyes of the Father, you won't receive it. But for all your children and loved ones, world peace, salvation of souls and simply for the intentions of the Immaculate Heart and the Sacred Heart....pile them on! We can never beg for too much mercy from the Trinity of Boundless Mercy!
