You're absolutely spot on. Only exception is that in northern Italy people do have dinner at around 19:00-19:30, in the german speaking part even earlier. Here in central Italy 20:00 hrs is standard. 😘

Hi. I would say 19.00-19.30 more in winter and in summer northern italians eat even at 9pm. Depends also on the age bracket. Older people eat earlier...

Northern Italy you can get pizza with pear, Gorgonzola, walnuts & honey. It’s very nice. Also, what about prosciutto on melon 🤷‍♀️

In Canada, we usually have supper between 5-6 pm. It was a shock my first time in Spain when most restaurants opened at 9 or 10 pm, even some at 11 pm. I can live with the Italian 7-8 pm.

Here in the north dinner is definitely before 8.00 pm. In some households it's around 18.45 hrs. However, when I first came here it was hard to get used to due to the fact, as you said, we eat much earlier. So true about the UK being a drink culture, I'm so glad to be away from that, though I was never part of it. They even brag about being drunk...UGH...!!😮

Hawaiian pizza was actually invented here in Canada in the 60s by a Greek in Ontario. Sorry about that, from someone who has Italian blood (my nonno was born in Larino in the Molise region), I will never touch that kind of pizza.

Same thing here (Montreal). My nonno wouldn't even eat corn on the cob, for him it was chicken feed. Hawaiian pizza is an abomination! Why not add beets and hamburger meat while you're at it or even cranberries and turkey!

I'm in my middle 50s and 1 month ago i went to the grocery store in my jumpsuit (tuta da ginnastica) for the first, and possibly last, time because i felt terribly lazy that day. I felt guilty for the rest of the day and i'm certain that people looked at me in desbilief. In my household , from 2001 on, after my father came home from hospital after a big surgery we began to eat at 19.30 to accomodate him and that time stayed until now. Cheers. Dan 🧡

The pizzeria just down the street from where my in-laws live in the province of Avellino - so in Campania, ground zero for pizza - offers a pizza with sliced pears on it. So some Italians at least do think fruit goes with pizza (albeit maybe not pineapple)

When I went to school in Florence, I was placed with a Florentine family. We had our dinner at 7 o’clock, and it wasn’t just for me because their children came over and it was all of us, including the Nonna.

1. Hawaian pizza is found in Italy in touristy areas and near the Military American bases. And younger Italians have tried: some like it, some don't. 2. Plenty of people up North eat before 8pm. 3. Probably not like the UK, but unfortunatelly, yes, there are people getting really drunk in public. There are areas of Italy where wine making is a tradition and alcoholism is a big problem. I'm happy to hear that you haven't experienced that. 4. I agree, it's difficult to see somebody going out wearing a pajama. I've done it. Blue silk trousers with golden dragons, and gray leggings with a big grey tshirt. They didn't look like standard pajamas, so nobody would have guessed. To me it's more that the pajama is to wear it to go to bed, so it needs to be clean. 5. You really need to travel a bit around all Italy but even around England, up North people are more open a greet people a lot compared to the South.

I was raised to consume wine, beer, spirits in moderation. As you said usually on holidays. As a child, I would ask my parents for a sip, and then say, "Yuk.. how can you drink that?" LOL! The same excessive consumption in Canada is the same when becoming legal. It's really stupid. I could never relate to that. As a teen I could only consume no more than 3 or 4 drinks, and I did it to "fit in". Even as an adult I rarely drink, and when I do, it's in moderation. Many adults here in Manitoba, Canada drink to excess. Just plain stupid.

Over the years, I've bought an insane amount of alcohol (tax-free when traveling). But I don't actually drink. That's for when I have guests over. My girlfriend doesn't even drink wine, I've just stopped buying it. I still enjoy a drink on vacation or on a special night but there's nothing interesting about getting drunk.

Yea I think you nailed it with the pineapple on pizza being more about cultural appropriation. In Italy I've had pizza with figs and proscuitto, also a pizza with soppressata and spiced honey. Saying that, the ingredients in both those pizza's seemed to go together better than pineapple, ham, moz and tomato.

Miss Britaly you forgot one important thing...Italians never, never, never drink cappuccino after breakfast. Ever! The english give themselves away immediately as being english because they drink it as part of an afternoon snack ( as opposed to an espresso ) or after dinner at a restaurant. A cappuccino is strictly a breakfast drink for Italians. As for Italians not getting drunk and vomiting all over the place....times have changed unfortunately. Try going to a nightclub nowadays and you'll see the new harsh reality.

But when is really really cold you can have it in the afternoon but only cappuccino without eating anything else. You know those cold days where people want an hot chocolate? There you are allowed to have a cappuccino even if is not breakfast.

This is not strictly true. I learned from spending a lot of time in Italy that there is a second window for acceptable cappuccino drinking, between 4 and 6pm ish. The reason Italians don't drink cappuccino after meals is because milk is considered bad for digestion. But if you feel like an afternoon snack, maybe accompanied by a small sweet, you can drink a cappuccino, and enough time has passed after lunch, and there is still plenty of time before dinner, that the cappuccino won't adversely affect your digestion

I used to make a 'breakfast' pizza. A white pizza, ricotta of course, then put pineapple and ham on it. It was well received. Some put tomato sauce and pineapple, not a fan.

Hello! All of them are very true. I grew up in a country (Argentina) that between 1880 and 1930 received (proportionally) the largest number of Italian migrants anywhere in the world. As a result, many of our habits and mannerisms are Italian. I later had the opportunity to live in Italy for 3 years and could confirm all that you said. I have to say I prefer Northern Italians who tend to be more formal and reserved. If there is something I detest is loud people. Regards!

Ha ha ha Uk 🇬🇧 and drinking 😂😂🕺🏽💃🏼 loud music 🎶I attended an Italian party expecting our British party 🎉 🥳. Wow what a contrast. People sat down most of the time eating and chatting with each other. There was about 30 of us. Less than 15 bottles of wine were drunk. A performer played about 5 songs that’s it. Every one went home sober.

Another thing I notice is that Italians never drink wine while eating pizza. Coca cola or beer is always the preferred option. I remember when I was a kid I used to love a nice glass of milk with a pizza:). That would be frowned upon massively in Italy. I would never tell my Italian friends that I used to do that

I wouldn't say never. I've seen plenty of Italians drink wine with their pizza. I used to feel self conscious ordering it because I prefer it over beer, and then I observed Italians doing it, so I did it too. In fact, one time we went out for pizza with a bunch of my Italian husband's family and friends in his hometown, and I specifically refrained from ordering wine so as not to embarrass myself, and then my Italian brother in law ordered a huge glass of wine, and there I was stuck with a beer I didn't really want :(

1) pineapple doesn't go on pizza because you don't put two acids (tomato and pineapple) together. Fruit gets used on some pizzas (pears and gorgonzola to name one), and as you justify said, pizza with Nutella is a dessert (and there's no tomato and cheese on top of it, for god's sake 😂). 2) you live in the south. Where I'm from in the north, dinner is at 18.30-19.00.

Come italiana e avendo visto come vivono in Irlanda o in Inghilterra non capisco perché è proibito vendere alcol Dovevo regalare una bottiglia di vino ad un vicino o usarlo per preparare delle cose in cucina con il pesce e mi hanno guardato male....voglio dire se una persona si vuole veramente ubriacare può comprare molto alcol dopo le 10 am o dopo le 10 pm a prescindere ..non capisco perché ci sia un orario per venderlo e comunque è vero gli italiani non si ubriacano mai.E...ovvio..la cena è alle 8...se poi gli altri fanno la merenda pazienza😅( almeno vedendola come italiana)

Hi Ms Britaly :) Italian here. I have tried pineapple pizza. I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but it's not the worst either :) I don't get mad at it :) About dinner at 8 pm, my family and I would NEVER eat dinner after 7 pm, unless circumstances require it.

I think the reason why most Italians are (or pretend to be) upset by pineapple on pizza, is simply because it's become a meme and that's the expected reaction to fit in. Most probably never even tried it, and just "know" that they have to be upset about it because it's become a cultural taboo, even if as a joke. It's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. It probably started because it's an odd topping choice, but there are plenty of odd toppings that are accepted just fine already, so it becoming this massive taboo, in my opinion, is just due to the internet turning it into a meme, and then people feeling like they have to play the part. Breaking spaghetti is another similar "manufactured" taboo, as there are situations where, especially before the Internet, you'd brake spaghetti (for example to feed it to children or old people) with no issue. My grandpa would cut them with scissors once they were in his plate, just so he could avoid choking on them, it was a bit funny at best, but certainly nothing outrageous like it is now.

My take on pineapple on pizza, is that pineapple should never been on italian pizza because it's over acidic and sweet, it over powers it and you already get that sweet and sour taste from the tomato however on a takeaway pizza from the uk or an american pizza then it's ok or even good , because they is so muchly oil cheese on it that it cuts through the greese

When I moved to London I used to go every evening to the pub, Chelsea, N.H.gate ect was a meeting social lifestyle, I used to drink pints of orange juice that used to give me acidities...then I started to drink too. Northen Italian in souther Italy I eat dinner at 20, when I lived in London I never ate lunch and dinner was early..you get used as others do. Yes I had a zip of wine when I was little but I didn't like it, northen Italians drinks much more than southern, they drink coca cola with their meal that is awful junk. My parents taugh me not to be loud or move my hands like the southern, but americans are loud and move their hand so much.

Italians don't put pineapple on their pizza but they do have pizza with hot dog sausage (wurstel) and fries. They like to pretend it is only for children, but I have seen many adults order it in Italy. Hawaiin pizza (pineapple and ham) was invented in Canada and, as a Canadian-Italian I have never even tried this abomination! Just like I don't order pizza with hot dog sausage and fries! Where is the world going?????
