Awesome video! I just have a small but *very important* info for everyone watching: @ 7:17 I saw that your image was in AdobeRGB. That's a bigger color space than sRGB. If you export a JPEG like that it will look very dull and washed out if it's in color. If you're exporting an image to post it online I always recommend using the "export..." function and *ticking that "convert to sRGB" checkbox.* This will ensure that your colors will look as intended. And for instagram: Some actual pixel sizes would have been useful 😅 the biggest res insta allows is 1350x1080px which is a 4:5 aspect ratio image. The max. width is always 1080px.

An important detail you didn't specify about Instagram, the maximum resolution when posting to Instagram is 1080 by less than 1080. If you don't want instagram to compress your artwork set the longest side to 1080 and keep the aspect ratio on the shorter side. I usually save multiple cropped versions of my art that are zoomed in on specific areas that get lost when I bring the resolution down. I actually had to google this solution when I first noticed how bad Instagram's auto-compression is.
@YVZSTUDIOS4 жыл бұрын
That's almost 100% correct 😅 I was thinking the same for a long time, but then I found out that the max. res is actually *1350x1080 px* which is a portrait 4:5 aspect ratio. So *the max. width is 1080px*
@16ShiningUmbreon4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I was really hoping for more detail than "compress your image ahead of time." When I compress it down to 1080 it looks really good on my phone but I find that my images still don't look as crisp on my PC and when I use my PC to look at other artists their work looks very very sharp and I'm wondering what they're doing differently.

@chevaliedelareverie4 жыл бұрын
The most important factor in getting clean photos with a cheap camera is LIGHTING. Take photos in indirect daylight (such as the shade on a sunny day). Think about it, even budget phone cameras are significantly better than the expensive digital cameras of years past. Your camera is totally capable of taking adequate photos. You just need to do more to get ideal photo circumstances.
@LannasMissingLink4 жыл бұрын
100% agree with@@chevaliedelareverie . My photos arent perfect of course, but as long as you open up your curtains on a nice day (a few clouds are great and act like a natural diffuser). Also long as you make sure not to distort or blur the sketch then your good. My phone has a better camera than some cameras out there

Here’s a tip for the noise filter one: when adding your noise filter, copy all of your layers and merge them (so you should have all your separate layers and one layer with everything on it) and out the noise filter on the one with everything. This way, you can go back and change something and just redo that process without messing up the noise

Another Top-Tip to tack onto your Print one. Some programs allow you to change the color settings to CYMK or RGB, *before* you begin drawing. Note that no matter what you do, You will still be seeing RGB (as thats the mode that the computer monitor uses)...however what this does is it changes the color wheel so that you either 1) only have access to CYMK friendly colors or 2) It will throw up a small warning (!) when you try to select a non-CYMK friendly color. This helped me so much when I was making prints as a senior project, because I didn't have to worry about the conversion process changing my colors afterwards. I just had to learn to use the colors that the CYMK profile allowed. But if you don't have this option when setting up the canvas, then definitely do it afterwards.

People say that it's better to save your artwork as a PNG image and not JPG, so I personally do it, but what is the best one?
@YVZSTUDIOS4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the plattform: For instagram I recoomend PNG, because IG will compress your image to something like a JPEG @ 75% anyway and there is nothing we can do it about it. Except giving IG the best quality you have, which is done by using a lossless format like PNG. JPEG is always lossy and even @ the best setting it reduced the quality slightly. For Twitter it's a different process. I have a short tutorial about that where I also show the differences btween JPEG and PNG: twitter.com/yvzstudios/status/1217186728601059328

Cool video, thanks a lot for your tips. I have a question though regarding your last tip of using compression tools before uploading. How would you go about this on your iPad? Because so far I haven't really seen a good option for that in Procreate, so changing the file size is quite an issue for me there. Would you recommend to use Affinity Photo for the purpose of resizing/compressing images or what option would you recommend on the iPad?
@YVZSTUDIOS4 жыл бұрын
I don't have an ipad but I know that Affinity Photo is a good alternative to Photoshop and is capable of resizing in a nice way. Import your image there and set the image width to 1080px and make sure your height doesn't exceed 1350px, because that's the max. res for insta. Export that as an PNG and you're done. I prefer PNG for IG because IG will compress your image to something like a JPEG @ 75% anyway and there is nothing we can do it about it. Except giving IG the best quality you have, which is done by using a lossless format like PNG. JPEG is always lossy and even @ the best setting it reduces the quality slightly.

How do you compress the files in photoshop do that IG doesn't screw with the quality?
@YVZSTUDIOS4 жыл бұрын
You go to export > export as PNG > set the *width to 1080px.* This will rescale your image to the max. res IG can show. You can try out different rescaling algorithms. Some are sharper, some less. If you image is already sharp I don't recommend choosing a sharp algorithm, because it can lead to "oversharping" which is a real thing and can look ugly. The biggest image can be 1350x1080 px. Then make sure to have that checkbox ticked "convert to sRGB". This makes sure that your colors will look as intended. I prefer PNG for IG because IG will compress your image to something like a JPEG @ 75% anyway and there is nothing we can do it about it. Except giving IG the best quality you have, which is done by using a lossless format like PNG. JPEG is always lossy and even @ the best setting it reduced the quality slightly. For Twitter it's a different story. I've made an easy tutorial about that here: twitter.com/yvzstudios/status/1217186728601059328

Save it as a PNG file. It's the best format that is practically lossless. Jpeg if you want them to be of smaller file size, though take into account the compression that does on the pic.
