If you’re under the age of 20 I recommend Civil Air Patrol! I was able to switch controls with the Pilot in a Cessna plane! It was really easy to fly, and I loved it. I wished I stayed in CAP because it had amazing opportunities! I learned so much about aviation and space...it was really cool. It’s like ROTC though, so you have to be okay with the military aspect of it.

I am epileptic and my dream was to become an airline pilot. My type of epilepsy is Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy with absence Seizures. I was about to make the big decision of going to the Aviation Medical Doctor but before that, due to a lot of stress, anxiety and anger I fainted and I told myself, due to what I heard and also what I read in the FAA that it's best for me to give up on that dream. I don't want to be that pilot that would get sick in the cockpit and end up doing the unwanted. Now I have no idea, I would have probably been a really good pilot if I went to the doctor and then take care of myself, make my life a lot less stressful, think about positive things and get enough rest. This year I will get into the medical world so I told myself 'One door closed, another one opened.' God bless all pilots and may they be healthy and enjoy flying as much as possible.

Hi Jacob! (same name pretty cool) Just here to help answer your question. For most airlines it is quite different, and mainly comes down to yourself. It can take as little as 5 years, all the way to 15. There are a ton of variables such as available slots, your own performance, prior flight experience and much more! You will probably not be able to know this until you actually become a captain. Hope this helps!

ATP costs a little over 100k including housing. They offer loans through Sallie Mae, but you get all of your ratings in a few months. The only thing that takes time is getting your 1500 hours, and there's no shortcut for that. However, ATP offers the chance to work for them as an instructor and it gets you hours quickly

I want to let you know. If you are a pilot with an ATP rating and over the age of 40 and you have a guy who is 24 years old who has 1500 hours total time, the airlines will hire the 24 year old over the 40 year old. I always wanted to be a line holder but never got to achieve that.

While airlines do tend to prefer younger pilots(sometimes!) don't let that get you down! If you're physically fit and mentally capable, you might actually be a better pick because you have more life experience than somebody who's 21, for example : )

Every country at person are very different when it comes to the pay of becoming a pilot. In most countries it is around 90k USD. That is an extreme estimate to the cost, so take it with a grain of salt. It really comes down to how fast you can get past your own flight training and the specific area and path you go down. It would be best to do some research on this as it is quiet a complex topic and is different for everyone. Hope this helps!

Having an undergraduate degree in literally anything (accounting, engineering, finance, IT, CS, etc) will save you if you are unable to obtain a first class medical certificate anymore, or the aviation industry is in a downturn (think COVID) and you have to look for jobs other than aviation. Having a degree will ensure you still get a good-paying job.
