1. Do less. But consistently. So much less, than it's not overwhelming. 2. You can't be anywhere else. Wether it's future or past. Be present... in present. 3. Just because you want something it doesn't mean the world owes it to you. (but if we pay attention to it we might win in a long run) 4. Our brain is always looking for a threat. All we have to do is to at least to get it from negative to neutral. 5. Celebrate all wins! We are all beat up. As a christian I'd prefer a view that it's not me who beat me up. Devil/society/family etc. as a kid I wouldn't criticise myself to deepest moments. It happened to me. Thank you. My name is Denis, I am 26. I am struggling to start my architectural career.

Its funny cause every week i make up a 2 page list of what i need to get done on the weekend and evey Saturday i wake up overwhelmed and dont do anything but lay on the couch. Then Sunday I get myself together but don't get much done and I'm agrivated with myself for not getting enough done!

@@juliakristinamah it's a weird thing for me. Everything seams important, like I can't cut anything out. I do little tricks, like instead of putting down one big project I break it up into smaller individual things, than I get to cross off more stuff, and looks like I did more. Thanks for replying though, actually means more than you realize to someone who feels like their never heard!

So needed this! I'm dealing with depression and anxiety...and been working on my dream of drum wellness program...and NOW adapting it virtually. But run out of energy FAST! As long as we're making progress on our dream...no matter how small...you're STILL making progress (you're not quitting. Look around how many people quit on their dream because of the pandemic). Be gentle with yourself...and small steps.😁

And again your content is exactly what I am struggling with. I am in my master's program for counseling right now and I find myself struggling with school work despite me having plenty of time and resources to complete them. Part of me constantly feels guilty when I'm not making progress. Guilty because I know that nearly in my program has kids, full times jobs, spouses, and mental health struggles of their own. I will give myself one day off and spend the entire day mentally justifying my day off, instead of enjoying it and trusting myself to complete what I need to.

Also, I’ve come to realize that the world doesn’t owe me anything, and if I want something, I need to put the effort in to get/achieve it

This hit home! I’m just starting out as a recovery and ptsd coach and have been feeling so overwhelmed with all that goes into getting started then adding every day living to that , I just end up doing nothing since I’m not sure the best place to start . I came to the conclusion that making a daily task list with only one or two things a day on it would be the most helpful . Things are getting done and the way I feel is much better !

Thank you! I needed to hear this! Consistency is so true. I use a timer and set it for 15 mins and just do something like wash dishes or water plants or play a game on my phone or cut up the dead tree or play with the dogs, etc. Then when the timer goes off, I stop and go do something else or relax for 15 mins, etc. That way I am satisfying my perfectionist brain in a little way. After a while, what ever I wanted to get done gets done how ever long it takes.

Personally I find it important to identify the source of my feelings of discouragement. If the identified sources are not modifiable - if it is something I cannot do anything about, I learned that the sooner that I accept it, the earlier I can get out of the discouragement zone. Julia's advice on starting small consistent steps helps a lot because these steps not only distracts you from magnifying the nonmodifiable sources of your discouragement, but it also keeps you motivated mentally. Knowing that you are doing something towards your goals help a lot.

Until now... until I haven't gotten out of bed for the last 4 years... until I've completely stopped liking anything in my life, people and things... until I'm just now realizing what this empty feeling is.. until I lost my mom the day after Thanksgiving.. the sadness, the guilt, the shame, are the only things I feel besides empty. Thank you for helping me realize. I start therapy next week.
