Hey Scotty! I'm Luis from Spain. There goes my question. I know a guy who sells a 1990 Celica 1.6 Sti which has 450.000kms. This guy has been the only owner of the car and has done all maintenance since he bought. It is really well conserved. Do you think it can be a good buy? Thanks a lot

Scotty you forgot to tell people to drive with their thumbs on top of the steering wheel and not tucked under the wheel. Airbags can break your fingers and wrists if you hold the steering wheel with your thumbs tucked under the wheel.

Hey I bought a Pontiac Firebird 1987 V6 with original race engine for 900$. Do you think that is a good deal. I just stumbled upon your channel and was wondering if u could tell me about my purchase? (The car doesn't register the gas put in the vehicle, what could be the problem) the Pontiac has a nice black blue matte color to it, should I resell it? (Help)

Jan van Velzen In the autobahn yeah, but who says you can do 300km in America? Some roads in America are nice straight ones that go for hundreds of miles and even more, much bigger roads in America than Autobahn, do you have any idea how big America is? Much larger than Germany, you cab speed for longer and faster

I never drive fast with passengers in my car. I always think, that if I were to have an accident, they have no control over how I drive. Apart from telling me that I’m driving too fast. So in an accident, it’s me who’s in the line for the bit when the car hits something. I wouldn’t take anyone else to that level of danger. I actually tend to drive slower when I have passengers. You do end up a lot more distracted. It gets annoying however when a family member tells you that you’re going too fast, when in fact you’re already 10mph under the max speed limit. People ain’t happy behind on a 60 road when you’re doing 40! 50 is excusable though. Driving with folk is a massive responsibility. And it’s very distracting.

This also counts for drivind in bad weather. Like for example i live in North Dakota and during winter even going the speed limit on the interstate is dangerous enough. And i always end up pissing my wife off by turning the radio off or telling her i cant talk right now XD.

Back when I walked my kids to school, there were multiple times I witnessed a car that would slow down at the school zone, then just past the cross walk (but still in the school zone) he would mash the throttle to get back up to speed. This was a residential 25 neighborhood, and he left the school zone going 50+MPH. Really aggravated me. The crossing guard said there was nothing the school could do about it.

...cars are coffins on wheels - though at night (especially dusk) in rural areas although no driveways random animals darting on to road - most people naturally react by sudden swerving which upsets the car control - then you get on the gravel on side of road and not too far from that is the obligatory tree and then the obligatory sudden impact and unfortunately but hopefully not the obligatory death. Dusk/night rural areas very dangerous time to speed.

Joel Rosario HAHHAHAAHA! Sometimes I feel like people who do good at Mario Kart drive better in real life. Because in Mario Kart, you have to pay attention and proactively react to the curve of the road, other racers, bananas, turtle shells, and all the insanity that happens in the race. Meanwhile people who are not good at Mario Kart, all they can do in real life is look straight and make sure to brake when they get too close to something.

I gotta go with Justin. Unfortunately, Scotty and I both drove fast when we were young. Scotty with purpose, including car selection, me because I was unhappy for the most part. I knew guys my age who didn't speed, they'd also had a happier life than mine. That would be my point. I drove a Miata rental in their 2nd year. They were all automatic transmissions which took some of the fun away but I recall that with the Miata and also when I first began driving, I was more interested in driving well than fast. Seeing a beautiful day with the top down and trees overhead was more fun than speed. I will equate driving fast with my drive from Boston to north of San Francisco to deliver a car. It was a Honda hatchback automatic transmission loaded with the owner's belongings and 2 drivers. We drove mostly at night to avoid traffic. We also had to avoid some weather, drove through some of it as well. We stopped for sleeping 3 times, we actually drove deep south as my co-driver wanted to visit a girl. Other than a hike that day and when we walked around Vegas, we drove. Was that drive across country fun? I don't regret it but I don't feel like I saw the USA (I had been to San Fran on business several times before). Driving fast is kind of the same. Not much room for it in the Northeast, plenty of tickets waiting for your plate number and frankly, I don't want to hit anything that breathes. You're concentrated on driving (which is important) and you're ignoring the scenery. It's like working your whole life and never enjoying it. Finally, most chicks don't like it when you drive fast. A little yes but all the time, definitely not. The Fast and the Furious series made it look great, Detroit has sold the idea for years but if you need to drive fast, there is something that you need to learn about yourself. Sometimes it helps when you pay a pro to listen. Then get on with your life and do something good.

On most modern cars if you're going down hill the fuel injectors shut off for better gas mileage and the wheels turn the engine. If you put it in neutral and coast down hill the fuel injectors must be used to keep the engine idling, therefore you're actually using MORE gas. True story.

Ha! My first car in college was a ‘69 Cougar...289? 302? I really wanted that yellow 426 Hemi ‘68 Superbee but when my uncle floored it during a test drive he yelled, “You ain’t gettin’ this!” 65 years old today and your vid caused me to reminisce about all the cars I’ve owned. 32 in all from American muscle and luxury boats to UK (MG & Jensen-Healey,) Italian (Fiat 128 & 308 GTS,) Japanese (Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Suzuki,) Volvo, Mercedes, and my favorite drivers Porsche 914, 924, 944 Turbo, 911S, Carrera 4, 928. The 924 sucked but every other Porsche was fun to drive and the most reliable of them all was the 914; and the 20 year old me drove the hell out of it. It wasn’t fast; a ‘70 vette would dust me off the line but give me a twisty road or even a city corner (not enough distance for the ‘vette to gain much advantage) and I felt like The Flash against the Hulk. My last American was a ‘78 Monte Carlo SS and truthfully, all my cars from ‘63 to ‘78 were reliable and comfortable - meaning they were soft and ill-handling - but reliable. The least reliable were: 2004 Volvo XC 70 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX 1974 Jensen-Healey 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS 196? MGA and the worst 1974 Fiat 128. Thanks for the memories.

Amused. I love watching BMW drivers as I pass them in my old Ford Bronco. They get all butthurt and try to speed up, but by the time they hit the accelerator, I’m gone. Additional. In a carbureted gasoline vehicle with an automatic transmission, 1/2 the accelerator power often does the same if not more when you’re on the drag strip.

Like Scotty said, know your path if you’re going to be pushing your car to the limit, it’s a good way to get yourself killed. I live near a road that’s probably a mile long straight and has a 90 degree curve at the end with no signing or reflectors. At night it’s basically impossible to see it until your headlights reach, and if you’re going 100+mph you’re not making that turn once you see it. 10+ people have died over the years from that corner, with dozens of totaled cars and serious injuries. Don’t be one of them.

where i grew up there was a sharp corner right after the top of a hill. Impossible to see untill it was too late if you were going too fast. Seen alot of people go off the road there. To make matters worse, its about a 10ft drop off the road. It's a miracle noone has died, cause i've seen alot of totalled cards there

Also the #1 thing Scotty missed is that you need to get a good $300 radio cop scanner that uses their speed guns. Like Scotty said, you'll know when to drive fast and when you should not be going fast.

@MaxiiBoii23
@MaxiiBoii23 5 жыл бұрын
The problem with scanners is you need a radio jammer, the scanner just sends out radiowaves and bounces them back to itself to send you a warning, but the cop also gets your signals. You need a jammer so it can turn off the scanner when it receives the cops' radiowaves

Scotty Kilmer, I enjoy majority of your videos and you're always spot on. Although, one thing you left out in this one is knowledge of one's car. I have a few friends who had no clue of either the performances or safety conditions of their cars but still pushing it. Honestly, I was guilty of it in my teenage years as well. All in all it is a great video. Speed doesn't kill, stupidity does.

Going fast is a chest game of figuring out the traffic pattern. Who's gonna move where. And seeing openings, and taking it at the right time. But there's so many idiots clogging up the highway taking up every lanes side by side going the same speed. So it can get ridiculous in California.

Coasting downhill uses more fuel than leaving it in gear and not touching the accelerator, which uses none. Coasting uses idling fuel.

That's the usual advice for off roading because the terrain can snap the steering wheel around and break your thumbs. I keep it in mind in normal driving too as you say.
