Cars now are more technologically advanced with performance parts. Sensors, Lane assists, Cameras. Wifi. Bluetooth. Fuel efficiency. Can't mistake glitches with quality. I'm teaching myself how to work on my own Benz, becuse every little thing if'n I took it to a repair person, costs would be astronomical. Major things take it in. I've probably saved $2,000 thereabouts this past summer for parts which cost $300. $200/ hr shop cost, and the person doing the work gets 10% of that, ain't right either. And years ago when speaking with my mech at Nissan he informed me that even though his experience allows him to complete a job in 30 minutes, if'n their internal repair manual indicates that the job should take 1 1/2 hour, he still has to charge that 1 1/2 labour charge, which rounds to 2 hours. Scam and a Hustle...😎

To be fair, BMW is a luxury performance brand. Not defending them, but if you buy a luxury car you can expect the cost of maintaining a luxury car to go along with it. Why does that mean you shouldn’t buy one? As for them always breaking, not sure where this comes from as Consumer Reports ranked them in the top 10 for reliability for 2023. It’s the mid-tier brands that are more in most people’s price ranges and is of good advice in this video. Nearly every vehicle and engine can last a long time so long as you’re responsible with oil change intervals and the regular maintenance checks. You know, the things ANY vehicle would regularly need... Your car will cost you more if you refuse or ignore taking care of it.

The next cheapest was the Mercedes - at FOUR TIMES the cost. Interesting article.

Also I would never purchase a preowned BMW or Mercedes unless the previous owner was a saint and actually spent the money and time on the maintenance and care of the vehicle. A good majority I would see come in were owned by real cheap skate owners, which was understandable due to the high price of maintenance/repairs.

This was documented by the time the vehicle had 20,000 total miles on it. They couldn't figure out what was wrong, so just bored out the pistons and put in new rings. The second time the head cracked, with no reason given, except that it got "too hot." Given that there was no problem with the radiator or cooling system, it is not clear why it got "too hot."

Bought a Kia Optima in 2018 for my daughter. Almost 100 miles. Paid off and running perfectly.

Had a 2007 bmw 335i and it was a fun car to drive. Bought it used at 50K miles and put almost 50k miles on it before selling it. Had to put in a new water pump and a few other smaller things. I guess I got lucky

Mercedes is the biggest scam in modern motoring, here in Europe they are consistently near the bottom of customer satisfaction surveys for reliability and cost. Garbage.

I was given a Dodge Gran Caravan for military duty in 2012. I used that van for 10 years, took it all over the country often filled to the roof with equipment and people. Took it off road on tank trails and fields. It handled it all like a champ. These things are designed to take a beating and do take a beating.

I have a 2014 BMW 528i. I do NOT drive the car hard. My average maintenance costs works out to less than $300 a year. I’ve had no problem with the run-flats. Only thing I’ve had problems with is motor mounts; I’ve had to replace motor mounts twice with less than 80k miles on the car.
