I have a tested, SW442 from the mid 2000s. I went thru several LCRs and 2 442s and a 642 and got rid of all but my one 442 choice. Especially like a revolver this time of year when my G26 and G17 backup mag is covered by layers ...its nice to have in a coat pocket and my hand on it unseen. I carry with FBI wadcutters in the 38. One added benefit of the wheelgun for me has been snap caps and 100 dry fires daily for a long time (years) to break in the trigger and also strengthens my grip, trigger finger and makes me a better shooter with my semi carry gun.

First off, I have shot revolvers my whole life. I am 60 yrs old and had everything from compact revolvers and simii autos to full size of both. I have to disagree on reliability as a revolver rarely jams, where simiauto are ammo finicky. As well as more likely to jam. They do not teach clearance drills on revolvers for a reason. Also you aim at center mass. You do not have a problem if the round is a couple of inches high. Besides if you practice, you know where gun shoots with each ammo choice, same as an auto. I have only had a couple of times where a revolver failed to fire or jammed in any way In 46 years of shooting both. They were both cheap or light weight revolvers. A good revolver like a sp100 or gp100 will outlast you. A Blackhawk will outlast you and your child with minimal cleaning and maintenance.

I have to agree with what you said. I’ve been shooting revolvers for 42 yrs, and never had one break or fail to discharge a round. My S&W 66-4 and Ruger Security Six both snubs are still by my side constantly! You can argue that these are not little J frames but K frames shooting mostly .38+P but do get there fair share of .357’s too. IMO quit shooting .357 rounds out of little J frame revolvers and maybe you won’t have to keep sending them back for repair.

Started out shooting revolvers in competition (PPC) then moved to automatics (USPSA). Revolvers do have to be cleaned but have found them to be incredibly reliable and outstandingly accurate. Have found automatic pistols are reliable and reasonably accurate but the magazines require cleaning and maintenance. Definition of what is a good trigger is not the same for automatics and revolvers but a good trigger matters with both.

Nice video! Several of your commentors didn't listen to what you said, but you are spot on. Firm grip and some practice and a wheel gun will be an excellent companion.

Interesting, I've had just the opposite experience with revolvers. Revolvers are very simple guns internally (IMHO). I've never had to send a revolver back to the factory but have had to send back several semi autos for feeding and jamming issues. The biggest drawback is capacity.

Hey Harrison, how do you like the lightweight K6XS as compared to the LCR/442? I'm strongly leaning toward the Kimber over an LCR .38, the extra round sounds awesome, but there are other factors to consider also. Your opinion appreciated. Thanks.

I haven’t experienced the issues stated here. I have 3 revolvers and 4 semi autos. All are reliable but semi autos are more picky when it comes to cleaning. Revolvers don’t really care much. Grip is accurate. Revolver kicks harder.

I'll be honest, back in the day Revolvers were not delicate. Old S&W's, Rugers....just keep on working. Even though it is a fairly complicated mechanical design they just generally always worked back then. Even the cheap H&R 22 revolvers would generally just eat thousands of rounds, no issues. The question is, what happened? The folks making them don't give a crap? Poor QC? Lack of skilled Gunsmiths? All of the above? I had a Colt Peacemaker on my channel years back that was made in the 1880's still perfect. So, to me, revolver are just not to the same standard they once were.

I've opened up some new revolvers and found MIM and plastic parts. And no matter what, the experts and internet experts say MIM and plastic parts are crap. Most of the broken parts I've seen the past couple of years are MIM. I've opened up a New Colt Python, and the internals are pretty cheesy. It's too complicated and weak. The more parts there are in something, the more failures you'll have.
@UncleDanBand64 Жыл бұрын
@dimassalazar906 Yes, definitely lots of mim parts. Stuff that would have once been machined from steel. The way I see it now, modern practices have taken away the only advantage revolvers ever had. I mean, if it is not as reliable as say a Glock or other modern pistol. Why not just carry a semi-auto with more rounds on board?

I’ve sent my SW 586 back three times to get a problem straightened out. I’ve yet to shoot it again to see if it’s been fixed. Yes I’ve never had a problem with the older revolvers I own.

What was stated about revolvers is most likely spot on but may require some definitions to fully understand. Neglect-leaving a loaded firearm in drawer or a pocket for extended periods of time. This causes the firearm to pick up lint and dirt which can gum up an action. Revolvers are better for this and therefore handle neglect better than a semiauto as a general rule. Abuse- firing an excessive number of rounds through the firearm. Semiautos take less of a beating due to recoil being dissipated by the action of the slide. So if you are going to fire 8000 rounds in a short period of time, semiautos handle this better than a revolver as a general rule. Obviously there will be exceptions to this and I haven’t personally fired even close to 8000 rounds through any firearm that I currently own (even though I hope to start shooting that often) so I can’t speak from personal experience. However logically this makes sense. Anyone out there who does shot regularly and puts thousands of rounds through a revolver and a semi auto in a given year will hopefully chime in and give us there anecdotes to prove or disprove this theory.

Just recently getting into shooting revolvers from many years of semi automatics, these tips are great information. Saw several things that will improve my accuracy in shooting them. As far as concealing, is there a specific revolver that works well in the pocket with a pocket holster in your opinion?

S&W J-frame comes to mind first. Ruger LCR, SP101. Kimber K6s. Having had experience with these, I highly recommend them, in the order listed...

35 years plus is the key factor. They don't make revolvers like they used to. Semi-Autos have improved a lot, and new production revolvers have gone backward.
